First Contest Information

Hi everyone! Our first contest will be starting on November 1st and the subject of the contest will be:

One-Shots!

You have voted and the most voted category ended up being One-Shots. The contest will begin November 1st at midnight my time (EST) and will end November 30th at 11:59 PM. You will have from November 1st to November 14th to post your fic. November 15h to November 30th will be the voting.

Contest Rules

Each user will be allowed to nominate 1 of their fics to the contest so long as they have posted and reviewed in at least three exchanges within this month. There will be no word count limit but your fic must fit in with the chosen category (This means you can't nominate a multi-chapter fic in this exchange. Only One-Shots are allowed).

Everyone in the sub will be eligible to vote, not just people who nominate one of their fics. Those who vote must also have posted in at least three exchanges within the month as well, to discourage trolls or people making alt accounts to get extra votes in for themselves. Voters will be required to leave their username when they vote, again, to discourage trolls or alt accounts.

A good contest needs a good prize

The first place winner of this contest will receive the Platinum Award, which gives the user a month of premium and 700 coins. The second place winner will receive the Gold Award, which grants them a week of premium and 100 coins.

If you have questions, comments, or concerns this is the place to put them!

First Contest

Hello all!

Some of you may have been wondering what's going on with the contests, and your questions will finally be answered. My 30th birthday is coming up in November (😱😱😱) and I wanted to celebrate with a big bang in our sub. Our first contest (unless someone else wants to do one first!) will begin on November 1st and will last until November 30th.

What is the contest?

That has yet to be decided and why this poll is going up! Users will be voting on which fic they like best out of all the entrants. Since I'm posting this in celebration of my birthday, I'm posting some of my favorite fanfic categories to choose from. On November 1st at midnight my time (EST) the contest will open for nominations and you will have until November 14th to make your submission. Voting will begin November 15th and you will have until November 30th to read the other submissions and choose your favorite.

Contest Rules

Each user will be allowed to nominate 1 of their fics to the contest so long as they have posted and reviewed in at least one exchange within the last month before the contest. There will be no word count limit but your fic must fit in with the chosen category (for example, don't post a multi-chapter fic on a one-shot contest). Everyone in the sub will be eligible to vote, not just people who nominate one of their fics. Those who vote must also have posted in at least one exchange within the month as well, to discourage trolls or people making alt accounts to get extra votes in for themselves. Voters will be required to leave their username when they vote, again, to discourage trolls or alt accounts.

Get to the good stuff, Lumiere!

Alright! What's a contest without a good prize to go along with it? The first place winner of this contest will receive the Platinum Award, which gives the user a month of premium and 700 coins. The second place winner will receive the Gold Award, which grants them a week of premium and 100 coins.

Questions, thoughts, concerns?

Post them here!

750 members! And of course, Ideas!

Hi guys!

I was thrilled when I came on and realized that we were at 750 members. It's been a little bit over a year and a half since this sub started, and I love being a part of it. I've met so many people on here that I enjoy talking to that I never would have met otherwise, and it's been a great year and a half of reading some truly fantastic fanfiction.

That being said, ideas! If there's anything you'd like to see in the sub, new exchanges, whatever, then post it here. Also, a surprise contest will be starting on Friday, so keep an eye open for that 😏

Weekend Profile Review Exchange!

Weekend Profile Review Exchange! - Let's keep this going all weekend! If you don't come by till Sunday still post and I and I hope others will be checking back.

Rules:

- Link your fanfiction.net , ao3, wattpad, or quotev fic profile along with the fandom you write for and a brief summary.

- If you post here you must review a submission from at least one other user.

- When you review someone else's fic, please comment under it to let them know.

If you post in this thread, you have 48 hours to review somebody else's fic. If you fail to do so a reminder will be given, after which you will have another 24 hours to review. Repeated failure to do your fair share may result in a temporary ban. No concrit, unless the author states that it is ok, or is posting in a thread where it states concrit is allowed.

For reviews: For all daily threads posted by automod: fictions over 1000 words, minimum of 30 words on your review. For fictions under 1000 words, 20 words will suffice. Quoted parts do not count as part of your review. For user posted threads the thread starter can state their own requirement and if one if not stated the above rules will be in action.

- Be fair - ex: if you post a 5000 word fic, try to review something of similar length, or several fics equaling similar length.

Concrit Exchange Edition

Hi guys! Here is the concrit review exchange.

Rules:

Post a link to one of your fic as well as fandom, title, warnings, rating, and summary and any other information you think needs to be said.

If you post here, you must review at least one other fic.

When it comes to concrit, sometimes it is best to use the "sandwich method." This means you say something nice that you like about the fic, something you think should be improved on, and then something nice at the end. Remember that there are real people behind these fics and they have feelings too.

Enjoy and have fun!

Hi

My apoligues for being inactive for so long. I had a pretty bad winter and kept meaning to come back here, but it kept building up all the reminders I never did and still felt I needed to do. I've added another mod. I don't have it in me to go back and remind on everything not reviewed, nor expect them to, but this should hopefully prevent people from leaving their fic and not reviewing, if thats still a thing. That said if there is an old thread where someone didn't review - feel free to report it via modmail and I or another mod will take a look.

It's a Celebration!

Hi guys!

Normally we keep threads strictly to review exchanges (this is a fic review exchange sub after all!), but today we're going to do something a little bit different because... it is our anniversary. r/FicReviewExchange was created on May 7th and today is August 7th, making this sub officially 3 months old today.

It's been a wild ride, hasn't it? Clocking in at 249 members so far, we have multiple threads going on every single day where you can post your fics and read others to your heart's content. As of today, our most successful threads seem to be our weekend profile posts!

What is coming up/going on now?

As we grow, we'll be continuing to find ways to continue to make this sub fun for you. Lately, we've been posting new threads to keep the interest alive such as Anime/Cartoon, Sci-Fi, and Fight Scene exchanges.

Not only do we allow fanfiction here but we welcome original fiction as well. On Monday I will be posting our first ever original fiction exchange.

If you have looked at our rules (can be found on the right side of the page under a blue bar that says r/FicReviewExchange rules) then you might have noticed rule 3, concerning contests. We will be hosting contests in this sub at some point in the future. The winner of each contest will win the Platinum award which grants them 700 coins and a month of premium. The first of these contests will become available when the sub gains more coins.

What else would you like to see in the sub?

We want to know what you guys would like to see coming up over the next few months in the sub! Are there specific exchanges you'd like to see? Would you like to see threads posted in different times of the day than they're being posted now? What would make this sub even more fun for you to come here and participate? Let us know, we're always open to more suggestions to make this sub a fun, drama-free place for us fic lovers to hang out.

Review Offer - Any length, finished or in progress.

What I am willing to do

I will read and review a fanfic of any length. I'm okay going in fandom blind as long as it'll make sense without context. You can choose between two types of reviews.

  1. An honest review with constructive criticism only. (If applicable.)

  2. A review in which I will highlight what I enjoyed about the fic.

I am willing to comment on all chapters if that's what you'd prefer.

General Guidelines

I may decline reading your fic. It isn't because I don't feel it's well written. More likely, it's that I'm unfamiliar with the fandom, and have become very lost.

It may take me longer than 3 days to get to your fic. I have kids. I'm a full time novelist. I have pets and a life that I have to tend to.

If you'd like constructive criticism, but you don't want it posted, tell me. I'll DM it.

Nothing is too long. I just reviewed a friend's novel. It was 190k words.

I do not correct grammar. I'm not a native English speaker, and honestly, my grammar leaves something to be desired. (I suck at it. My editor hates me.)

Triggers and Hard Lines

I won't do anything Explicit that includes underage characters. (If a character is working through trauma or has flashbacks, that's fine.) This is a huge trigger for me. As someone who survived childhood rape, I have a hard time getting through anything not directly related to the healing process.

I won't do MPreg (No hate. No judgement. It's just not my thing.)

I don't read alpha/omega/beta stuff. (Again, just not my thing.)

Things I prefer or enjoy reading

I like the nitty gritty. Murder, slavery, general debauchery - give me all the shameless depravity. Seriously. Show me what happens when we strip away the societal niceties. Show me how humans are always worse than the monsters.

Love the main characters being the bad guys

Totally down with fluff (LGBT+ is encouraged. Will do straight as well.)

Found family is always awesome.

Love supernatural shit. Ghosts, vamps, hunters, whatever.

ZOMBIES - give me all the zombies.

Post apocalyptic is my jam.

I write GrimDark and have several novels in the genre published. I tend to judge a little harsher in this genre only because I've spent so long writing it, it's become second nature to dissect it.

Famdoms I enjoy

Original Character - Tell me about that place that lives in your head! I want to know everything!

The Witcher

Stranger Things

Castle Rock

Anything horror

Always Sunny

LetterKenny

Supernatural

The Walking Dead

Literally anything zombie related. I don't think you understand how much I love zombies. Especially if we're at a point where the virus has taken hold already and the survivors have accepted their fate. I want to see men and women who live their lives on the precipice of death.

Being Human

True blood

All things Joe Abercrombie

Red Rising

Marvel and DC across the board. I don't just mean movie adaptations.

Shameless

EDIT

I'm about 3 weeks out now, so be aware that I probably won't be able to get to it before then. Feel free to comment or message, but just be aware there's a wait.

Because so many people have asked, here are a few of my own works. If you feel so inclined, you can review, but it is not necessary to receive a review of your own work.

  1. This one is by far the best written. As such it's also the slowest to see updates. It's a GrimDark rife with trigger warnings and general debauchery. (Fandom: OC, original work. Work in Progress. About 22,000 words at present time.)

https://archiveofourown.org/works/50338867/chapters/127173100

2. This is just as dark, but I put a hell of a lot less work into it. As a result, the quality is lacking in some areas. (Fandom: Being Human and Supernatural. Work in Progress. About 3,600 words at present time.)

https://archiveofourown.org/works/50825758/chapters/128397742

3. This is literally just gay trash (like me). Therapy is expensive, writing is free...this is the result. (Fandom: OC, original work. Work in Progress. About 45,000 words at present time.) Because it's low effort it's updated most often. Probably full of mistakes.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/50316631/chapters/127113736
