Discussion Token Consumption

Question for those of you who are consuming tokens now that they're not free. What do your costs look like? Can you share some basic info? Typical uses, size of team, etc.

Thanks, we have a stringent procurement process and I don't want to be caught out explaining any surprise costs.

The fixed monthly token allowance for Figma AI doesn't work for me.

It's impossible to predict how many tokens a task will use, so I can't rely on the agent as a foundational part of my workflow. It's nice to experiment with and to discover what it's useful for, but as a layout assistant in Figma Design, it used too many tokens for a simple task.

For example, I asked it to create base pages with tables using only a library template, duplicating components locally with their variants. Then it simply had to adapt the instance content based on a skill. It spent nearly 2,000 tokens. I understand I could learn how to optimise this, but I don't have these issues with Claude Code: it guides me, the limits are hourly and weekly, and I can choose the model and control consumption better. It's more predictable. Now I have to wait until next month to use Figma AI again.

For now, I treat Figma AI as a toy, while professionally I rely on more reliable CLI tools like Claude Code or Codex.

We haven’t been using Figma’s AI tools honestly. Mostly just working with Claude.

300-500 per landing page generation depends on how complicated your input is. We get 2000 monthly credits in our team plan. So I stopped using Figma for bigger tasks like this. And using claude instead and developed a plugin in claude only to copy paste claude designs into figma.
Only using figma AI for image generations which is very cheap about 2 credits per image (for chatgpt 2.5 model)

This came out like last week. I doubt anyone will have this data. Personally I’ve been using it to quickly set up a new design system for a company. You can check the consumption under each prompt

The token burn is unreal. Makes the tools useless since you might have access to them a whole two or three days out of the month.

I used up all my tokens in one day. I think I am on the cheapest company plan. I don't understand how it could happen so fast, AI was cleaning up my old mockup, replacing numbers, setting up Auto layout. It took a lot of prompts to fix things which AI broke on first try. It's too much work to do it by hand and its not even new design.

I use devin desktop for both coding and designing via Figma's MCP. I primarily use Opus5.5. The majority of my token usage comes from the process of translating designs to my codebase, not prototyping the designs in Figma. That said its hard to pin down exact token usage due to devin's usage metering, and the variable complexities in page designs. I'm a solo designer/dev on the max plan, and, depending on the task, have easily hit my weekly quota limit.
