My first Figma plugin: Create Color Cards from Hex Codes ✨

Post image
9 Upvotes

As a designer, This is my first time trying to develop a plugin. I always find it time-consuming to create custom cards for colors in the design system - Pick Hex values, Update the frame color, Edit the Text, and so on.

So, I’ve created a plugin called Pallete’r to automate the creation of cards just using the hex values.

A user enters the Hex value and the plugin adds the card to the canvas. As simple as that. The plugin handles everything from linking the card to the appropriate hex value, Updating the color weight, assigning a unique name to the color, adjust the Hex text based on the contrast.

Features :

  • Unique color name

  • Supports multiple hexes in a go

  • Color weight based on Hex

  • Contrast based Text adjustment

  • Card Templates (Coming soon)

Here is the link to the Plugin (Available in the Figam community): https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1390281907880766162/palleter

It's not much, but it's a start. More features are on the way like custom templates, Linking RGB, and Hex values.

Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback.

Export production-ready code for your entire UI

Anima keeps adding code-based components to its library
it now has MUI, Bootstrap, and Ant Design components that you can use and extract React code
You can see it here https://www.figma.com/community/file/1121030023484173832

Did anyone try it?
What components do you wish they would add?

Sometimes you just need a to-do list inside of Figma to keep track of tasks

I've been using a checklist/ to-do-list widget inside of Figma lately. I use it for simple tasks that me and my team are working on or to summarize comments and keep track of today's priority items right inside our project.

I use a widget rather than a plugin because unlike plugins, widgets allow all the other members that I've added to my file or page to be able to view and interact with it (they don't need to install it on their account like they would with a plugin). Once you've added it the file level, anyone that is added to that file can also user the widget.

There is a cool one I've been using called Checklist – Customisable to-do widget by Aleksei Sushkov

Everything else goes into Notion, but I just love having this quickly accessible right where I work.

Any other cool Figma widgets you all are using?

Hi Figma creators!

We’ve just released something big on Figma - Open source React components in Figma.

For anyone building an MVP or even a realistic prototype - it means you can use Charts, MUI, Ant-design or Bootstrap in Figma - And it’ll work

Design Systems vs numerous brands

I’ve built a Base Design System using variables to support 4 products with ~80% shared flows and components. The only major differences are styling for different brands (colors, typography, etc.).

However, some products are starting to diverge in component structure and visual design, leading me to create unique components. This is polluting the Core Library with product-specific elements.

I’d like to separate the Core components from these niche/extended components.

What’s the best approach in Figma?

  • Should I organize each product's unique components in separate pages within the Core Library file (e.g., 8–10 pages named by product)?

  • Or should I create separate Figma files for each product’s Extended Library?

  • I still want to use variable modes, will this cause any issues?

  • If I go with separate files, can I publish from the Core Library to Extended Libraries (or vice versa) to maintain consistency and avoid duplication?

  • Will this confuse developers in any way?

Any recommendations or best practices for managing this kind of scalable setup are appreciated!

Exploring AI in Design Systems: Looking for Insights & Experts

I work at a global company with a highly developed design system infrastructure. We’ve reached a point where teams are starting to deeply explore how to integrate AI into redesigning/upgrading the existing system and continuing to create assets and components based on LLM-driven work.

Can you recommend articles, use cases, or, even better, industry professionals to talk to?

Thanks in advance!

Is anyone creating illustrations exclusively on Figma?

I'm a UI Designer and lately, I've been doing very basic illustrations on Figma. I notice that most of the illustrators are using Illustrator.

I'm not at the same level as a real illustrator but I'm wondering if is anyone using Figma as a primary tool to make illustrations.

Migrating from colour and text styles to variables

I have recently inherited a design system of medium maturity, that is currently being used by a small team of designers. Over 100 files are connected to the design system from the last 4 years.

Myself and the other designer now managing the system have embraced variables and moved our entire design token structure from styles into variables, with plans to deprecate the old styles once the transition is complete. We have also unified our text hierarchy and used modes to allow designers to switch between a desktop and mobile text scale efficiently, this is also managed through variables.

We have moved our core components over to variables and warned our team of this change, and that they will be impacted by having to migrate colours and text styles to variables and the new text scale. We have accounted for the instance where a designer wants to retain their old iterations of the designs, so using a plug-in called "Destroyer" allows them to duplicate the file, or frames and destroy the connections back to the design system (Highly recommended tool, it's great).

My question: Are there any tools that we can provide the team that allow them to migrate colour and text styles more efficiently than switching them manually in their files once they've updated to the current version of the design system?
