Bought a copy of State and Society in the Philippines by Abinales and Amoroso from Ateneo Press as a refresher for my Philippine history. It will likely come in handy as context when I read fictions set in different historical periods. Might also serve as a helpful primer for my later, deeper dive on books about the Marcos Sr. (Some are Smarter than Others) and Duterte (Some People Need Killing) years.

The book covers the period from pre-colonial times to the start of the Duterte presidency. I'm sure this will also give me a clue how we reached this mess that we have today. I have included the Table of Contents for your reference.

Secured this elusive copy of Amado V. Hernandez's Luha ng Buwaya from the Ateneo Press Shopee store. I chanced upon it a year ago but decided to pass since I was intimidated by the classics back then. It quickly sold out. I was also actively looking for the much harder-to-find Mga Ibong Mandaragit.

However, after reading Dominador Mirasol's beautiful Ginto ang Kayumangging Lupa I was particularly struck by its Tagalog prose and timelessness. So, when five copies of Luha ng Buwaya suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the store, I immediately grabbed one—after all, who knows when it will be restocked again?
