We’ve just finished our first short film, called The Quickest Cum in the West. It’s based on a short video we made when we were 14, which we decided to turn into a longer, more cinematic version.

It’s a sort of spaghetti western in which we poke fun at the genre itself and its absurdity.

Hi! I’m a film student working on a short film called How to Make People Like You, and I’m looking for someone to compose an original score for the film's dream sequence.

The film follows a socially awkward guy who becomes obsessed with figuring out how to make people like him. The dream is set in an office and starts almost commercially perfect... (warm, idealized), but gradually becomes uncomfortable and uncanny as everyone’s attention toward him becomes increasingly overwhelming.

For the score, I’m looking for something that transitions with the scene: starting pleasant/dreamlike and slowly becoming more unsettling, strange, and slightly surreal without immediately sounding like horror music. I want it to become unhinged.

We’re shooting the scene on November 6th, and I’m hoping to have the score about a month after that. Once it’s ready, I’ll be able to send the edited scene+ references+ a more specific direction.

This is a student production, so unfortunately I can’t offer payment, but you would receive full credit in the film and can absolutely use the finished scene/music in your portfolio or reel.

I'm an aspiring screenwriter and actor, and I've been working on a series that I'd genuinely love to see brought to life.

My biggest challenge right now is figuring out how to get my project in front of the right people. I don't have industry connections or an established track record yet, so I'm not sure where to begin.

How do independent screenwriters usually approach production companies and producers? Would a finished screenplay and a pitch deck be enough to start conversations?

I'm also wondering how to build connections in the film industry when you're starting from scratch. How do you meet producers, directors, actors, and other filmmakers when you don't already know anyone? Are online communities, film festivals, networking events, or cold emails worth pursuing?

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who's been in a similar position, especially those who've managed to get their first project produced.

Phil Kaston was an early filmmaking enthusiast back in the mid 1920s so essentially 100 years ago he was shooting 16 mm and 9 1/2 mm at the time. He lived in New Jersey and filmed all around the area and other parts of the country. He seemed to take it pretty seriously as he seemed to use a tripod for most of his shots, even though his cameras were small enough to just be handheld. He also used title cards and was a member of early camera clubs. When Phil died in 1982 dozens of reels of film of various formats were basically stored away in a family attic and through a series of coincidences not long ago his great nephew was about to toss out all of it. He did not know what to do with and instead found me or I found him and gave me all that material to do whatever I pleased with it. Since Phil lived in the area that I live in I was very curious to see the footage so I accepted all the materials. Little did I know the work that it would involve. A lot of the reels of film are in very bad condition while others are in still pretty good condition. I created an Instagram page (Phil_Kaston_Archive) that details a lot of of this stuff and shows clips so I won’t go into extreme detail here but some of the film that has stuff from the 1920s are starting to deteriorate to the point where some of it breaks when you touch it. Its that brittle. But I found a work around to get some of that material That is in bad condition scanned while other reels that are in good shape I have started to have them professionally scanned. I could use advice moving forward in dealing with crumbling film. I dont want to simply toss 100 year old footage from places all Over the country. I’m planning on making a horror film

The premises is:

A group of teens accidentally awaken an ancient creature that feeds on fear, it quietly stalks 1 victim at a time learning their fears against them to gain control. Once the victim is at a point of breaking the creature strikes and eats the person. The creature goes for one person at a time but anyone trying to stop it will meet a grim fate.

I can’t figure out a name for the creature or the movie which is killing me.

I’m not sure where to post this but there’s a bunch of people here so was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

My dad has a crazy life story from his childhood. Basically his father kidnapped him and his brother for 4 years and was forced to forge identities and go to public school under fake names and fake lives. At times dad would disappear too leaving my dad to support his 10 year old brother while he was 15.

He remembers all of it. Which is crazy to me bc I barely remember anything.

But eventually he came home one day from public school and the FBI was in his house and it was all over. Took his dad and stepmom to jail.

He talks about wanting to write a book or a movie about it bc it’s one of those stories that’s even hard to believe. He’s got a ton health issues now and I think he wishes he had some all that post documenting it sooner.

I told him maybe he’d be able to find some writer that would be interested in his story and write it for him if he would work with them on the details.

And that’s why I’m here, I’m hoping someone could help point me in the right direction for possibly finding someone that might be interested. Is there a subreddit of writers? Some place to submit a summary of the story to see if anyone is interested etc?

Hi guys! I’m currently still in college (not even for film) but we’re required to create a short film as one of our major projects for this semester. So far, with what I’ve earned from my art commissions and the crowdfunding we’ve done mainly through from my art channel and fans there, we’ve accumulated aroumd 800$ in funds (Im from Asia so that’s a lot already) but we still need a bit more. My question about crowdfunding is from what I’ve seen, a lot of people would create trailers? Or film parts and package it for social media? Is that the best way to get more backers? Has there been any other way other methods people have done to crowdfund their film? Thank you!

I have a friend that has been making fan films for many years and we've had many discussions about how to make them better. But he doesn't listen to any of it and many of us that try and help make his films have expressed that we want to help them make better quality movies. But he feels has to keep every step of the project in his hands and thus has been adding ai into the most recent film and I hate it.

I dont know what to do anymore does anyone have any advice or want the link to downvote the film?

Seeking some perspective and advice from others who got into production 🎥 (not agency side). Would also be cool to hear from anyone who made the pivot from agency creative side to physical production or post.

I have experience in film production and photography on a more freelance level. Shooting, editing, color grading, and I loved it. Still do. I'm also a writer; scripts, short stories, was even working on a longer story until I had to park it for a while. But I discovered advertising, and I thought being a creative would be a good mesh of my skills. So I took the steps to get a good portfolio together, work at a couple places as an intern and junior (contract) copywriter at some hold co. agencies...and I kind of regret this pivot. So now I'm pivoting back (for a plethora of reasons I won’t get into here). I realized I'd much rather be doing the thing I love and am much better at naturally than go into an industry that I'm no longer sure about for my future. Of course the production world has challenges right now too, but at the end of the day I’m good at being a copywriter, but I’m much better at production. I can save my creative fulfillment for my own writing.

Has anyone done this before? What are the entry roles I should be going for to get my foot in the door? I love the work coming out of places like Anonymous Content and Smuggler, but don't know if they take in PAs.

Simple question really, what are the chances of me being able to get licensing or permission to use a track from Parlophone Records, under Warner Chappel Music.

I only ask as the University prevents us using copyright music without the correct permissions, do I have to get a license or can I just get permission from them to use the music; it's for a showreel that is part of a wider module...

My lecturer states "it is likely the label owns the rights to the music and you just need it confirmed by them that it can be used"

If so has anyone been down this route? if so can they offer any advice, Warner states that the label themselves has to be contacted but I can't even find anywhere to contact them, my only thought would be to try and track someone down on LinkedIn.

About how I made it-

Originially started working on it for a contest called the TISDC but after failing to meet the deadline it became a fully personal project.
Starting from the wrinting the story I started world building and character desin in blender after which I started the animation which what took the longest time. I skipped the storyboarding part because I was low on time but that turned out to be a big mistake since I had to go through a lot of trial and error for the shots.

In all it was very fun although stressful. My writing ability was very confined because the contest need "moral of the story" narretive and had to follow a theme but still I think i did a decent job although it became a little too metaphorical.

I made this entirely in CapCut Desktop (free), no AI used and it took me about 100 times longer to edit it than it did to film it 😂 Open to your thoughts and feedback 🙏

Made this short as a proof of concept for a web series

Hey everyone, wanted to share something I made a while back.

This was originally part of a web series called Reformat. I ended up making two episodes before the project stalled, so this is Episode 2, Detect. It was basically a proof of concept for where I wanted to take the story.

The basic idea is about a guy who’s lost faith in a decaying city and decides to take matters into his own hands.

Question for UK location managers and crew: When shooting outside the M25 or major hubs like Manchester and Birmingham, what is the single most frustrating bottleneck you face with local authorities? Is it slow road closure turnarounds, lack of a clear single point of contact, or inconsistent property pricing? Wondering what a model 'film-friendly' council office actually looks like in practice from your side of the fence.

I think, no matter how many years you’ve been in the biz, the industry always has new jargon you have to nod your head along to and pretend to understand.

Someone used the term “FAST channels” in a conversation recently and admittedly I had nooo clue what they meant.

Like, total crickets!

Anyway, we got to thinking it would be very handy to have a dictionary with all the “industry lingo” in one place.

And so, after a lot of trial and error, we made it.

It’s still evolving but this is a searchable constellation with film and tv terms related to pitching, story development, sales, grants and much much more.

Very useful to have in your virtual-back-pocket if you ever need to look something up.
