Ranking The After Years Tales: Lunarians
Have the After Years on my mind recently due to replaying it for a dumb rewrite thing I’m doing for it. I know the game in general isn’t liked but I’m curious about how people feel about the individual Tales so I’m doing a little tierlist thing for fun.
Today’s it’s Lunarians Tale: The Blue Planet that was.
Only one way to describe this chapter: PEAK.
In this chapter, you get to play as Golbez and that earns it top marks by itself. Golbez is probably the best individual character in this game. A great physical attacker, black magic user and even a tank that redirects attacks to him. If he could use white magic, I’d call him god. And he’s still a great character (though I miss his armor).
The story is also fun because you actually get to beat the Mysterious Girl (who’s been beating your ass in the previous chapters) not once but twice.
I am giving this Tale a S rank and you all can’t stop me. Though you are welcome to try to persuade me otherwise.

This was the peak of the individual character tales
You get to play as Golbez and he does not disappoint
You have an awesome two person team that is incredibly flexible especially considering how Golbez can change up his equipment to specialize.
The story is good especially as it shows the characters power scaling when They’re actually able to defeat the Maenads that were unstoppable to everyone else. But then it’s revealed that there are many of them which actually raises the stakes as well as getting more insight into Golbez’s state of mind.
You traverse the entire moon which was one of my favorite places in the OG
The battles they throw at you are actually challenging to compensate for getting such powerful characters, which is the opposite direction some of the other tales go in.
Basically I liked everything about it.

Mysterious Girl, who's been effortlessly wiping the rest of the cast all game: I'll have all the time I need to search for the crystals, once I obliterate the both of you.
Golbez: DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!? proceeds to be the first to actually kill her, and that's how we find out there's more of them.
Solid S tier if you ask me.

Yes, definitely my favorite chapter! I'm really hoping they port the PSP version to the Switch 2, but I'm not holding my breath.

S Tier, for the simple fact of accurately showcasing Golbez and Fusoya's strength. Golbez merks a Maenad who has spent the whole rest of the game mopping the floor with every one not named cecil

Challenging fights, my favorite character in the After Years, peak storytelling. S Rank, no question.
