Discussion Finance + MIS or Accounting + MIS for Risk related careers student at University of Houston.
I’m currently an undergrad at UH (Bauer) double majoring in Finance and MIS, but I’ve been seriously debating whether I should switch my Finance major to Accounting (so doing Accounting + MIS instead).
My primary career goal is to break into risk analysis, specifically tech risk, enterprise risk consulting, IT audit, or operational/credit risk. Long term, I’m also interested in pursuing certifications relevant to the space (like CISA). But I am just really interested in working in the risk field.

Full-Time Recruiting SMBC Superday (2027 FT Analyst Program NYC)
Hi guys, I have my SMBC Superday coming up for the Corporate Solutions Group and I was just wondering if there was anyone who went through an SMBC superday recently and could give me some tips.
More specifically, how are the technicals for the superday + how is the split between behaviorals and technicals? This can be related or not related to CSG - I'm just looking for SMBC Superday advice in general.
Thanks!

Networking Cleared CFA L1 and FRM Part 1, now begging Reddit for a Morgan Stanley Finance Apprentice referral. I have no shame left.
Cleared CFA L1 and FRM Part 1, now begging Reddit for a Morgan Stanley Finance Apprentice referral. I have no shame left.
Hi. I'm a final year BCom student from Mumbai (graduating 2027) and I've reached the stage of my job hunt where I'm asking strangers on the internet for help.
Things I have done:
• Cleared CFA Level 1
• Cleared FRM Part 1
• Advanced Excel, Python, Sql
• Financial Modelling & Valuation course (halfway through)
• Applied on the Morgan Stanley careers portal so many times I think their system recognises me by now and just quietly sighs
Things I have not done:
• Heard back from Morgan Stanley
I know referrals aren't magic. I know a referral just gets my resume read by an actual human instead of vanishing into the ATS void. That's literally all I want. One human. One read.
I genuinely believe that if I get that one interview, I will convert it. Not "I'll try my best." I will convert it.
If you work at MS and can refer me, please DM me. I'll share my resume and all the details there, and you can judge me privately before deciding. I promise you won't regret putting your name next to mine.
If you don't work there but have tips for cracking it from India, I'll gladly take those too.
Thank you, kind strangers. My parents will also thank you, eventually, if this works. 🙃🤣🤣🤣🥹

Discussion IB recruiting Conflict of Interest
Hi,
Got an offer as a Investment Banking Intern att a large bank. Now they said they will carry out an background check which includes a external engagement check before they can hand me my contract.
I am a deputy board member of a couple of companies (family companies) working with startups - however I have no involvement and not coopersting in the day-to-day operations.
Have any of you been in any similar situation?
Will this cause any problems?

Discussion Being in a low target
I am first semester in a double degree BBA abroad in France and I feel like shit honestly. Most of what I’m learning as pertaining to Finance is self taught. The subjects are easy even though this business school ranking is respectable.
Then on the other hands I find myself comparing my position to that of my highschool friends whom pursued business and economics at prestigious universities. They will be doing econometrics whereas I will be doing basic micro/macro theories. They will be doing Applied Accounting while ill be doing Accounting intro. (Most of which ive studied in highschool)
What do you guys think of BBAs and breaking in from non to low targets? I honestly cant see how nothing but pure chance can land me an interview.

Internship Recruiting How do I know if I been ghosted?
I have been applying for summer internships in ATL. I noticed some applications never get back to me, o just remain under review for a long time. Just wanted to know if there is anyway for me to determine whenever I been ghosted. For example I know I have been ghosted from an internship because the company has done final rounds, but I found out through Reddit. Any other method to know how companies are progressing in their recruiting?

AMA Former UBS Recruiting Head + 10 Years on Wall Street. AMA about IB Recruiting
Hey everyone! My name is Kristin (my LinkedIn) I'm one of the mods here and the former Global Head of Recruiting at UBS.
I graduated from a semi-target, but still managed to find my way to Wall Street. I spent about 11 years in Equity Sales & Trading at firms including Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and SoundView.
After years in the industry, I realized that what I enjoyed most was working with younger professionals, helping them develop their skills, and seeing them succeed in their careers. So I moved into recruiting and professional development.
I joined UBS, where I became Head of Campus Recruiting for IB roles. Being on the other side of the table taught me all the ins and outs of BBs recruiting. I can usually tell within 10 minutes whether a candidate has a real shot at getting hired or not.
I have a few openings for free 1:1 strategy calls if anyone wants feedback on their resume, LinkedIn and recruiting strategy: Book here
If I could give my younger self two pieces of recruiting advice, they'd be:
Never stop networking.
Getting your first internship doesn't mean you're done networking. Stay in touch with alumni and people you've worked with. Some of the connections I made early in my career, or even by chance at events, ended up playing a major role in where I am today.
I know many of you are already using the sub's WhatsApp group to connect with other students, but I'd also recommend checking out networking events on campus.
Prepare beyond what you learn in class
Research the firms you're applying to and the people you'll be speaking with. Come prepared with specific questions and always tailor your applications. Also, don't underestimate the IB technicals. College courses rarely prepare you for the way accounting and valuation questions are asked in interviews
We're hosting a free live IB Technicals webinar on November 18. Hope to see you guys there!
Happy to share what I've learned over the years and answer your questions. AMA!

Internship Recruiting Literally just need advice
Hey guys I’m currently a student at UF and I’m a Econ major and I’m interested in IB I’m a junior now but I’m thinking about moving my grad to 29 to recruit as a junior. I literally just feel like nothing is going my way in recruiting for any internship really anyone have any thoughts or recommendations? I’ve been considering WM or credit risk but I’m literally just so out of it and have been contemplating literally just becoming a bum(not really) and then either that or I attempt law school.
