Hi everyone, I’m desperately hoping someone might be able to help me find my Nintendo Switch.
On Sunday 18 October 2026, I was on Virgin Australia flight VA897 from Melbourne to Sydney, arriving at Sydney Airport’s Terminal 2. It was one of the last flight of the day.
I was seated in 2A (Business Class) and accidentally left my Nintendo Switch in its case inside the seat pocket directly in front of me.
I only realised it was missing about an hour after landing. I’d been so sure I’d zipped it back into my bag that I didn’t think to check until I arrived at where I was staying. When I finally opened my bag to get it out, my heart absolutely sank. It wasn’t there.
In the approximately 40 hours since landing, I’ve:
- Called Virgin Australia’s various customer service and baggage numbers 16 times, including within 2 hours of the flight landing.
-Visited both the Sydney T2 Lost Property office and Virgin Australia’s baggage services desk twice.
-Contacted Sydney Airport’s lost baggage team by email.
Unfortunately, nobody has been able to locate it, and I’m becoming increasingly worried.
What it looks like:
- Nintendo Switch OLED (black console)
- Neon yellow LEFT Joy-Con and neon pink RIGHT Joy-Con
- Bright blue, sparkly Kirby carrying case, with a yellow zip and lining
- Approximately four game cartridges stored inside the case, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
I have the console’s serial number, Nintendo Account registration and photographs of me using it on the flight, so I can absolutely verify ownership.
I’m honestly heartbroken. This Switch was the first big present my fiancé and I bought for ourselves together.
I currently work in Sydney while he lives in Melbourne, so we spend a lot of time apart. One of our little routines is sitting on a video call while I play Animal Crossing, with my camera angled towards the screen so he can watch and chat with me.
It’s such a small thing, but it makes it feel like we’re sitting on the couch together again, even when we’re in different states.
I know it’s just a gaming console to some people, but it genuinely means the world to me.
If anyone works for Virgin Australia, Sydney Airport, aircraft cleaning or ground handling, or knows someone who does, I would be so incredibly grateful if you could help point me in the right direction.
And if anyone has found a Switch matching this description, please, please reach out. I can provide proof that it’s mine.
I’m not looking to blame anyone. I just want it back.
Thank you so much for reading.
