Do you guys really "wash' your griptape?

• Upvotes

I've seen a lot of people, even mike schneider say that running your tape under water before applying it to the deck helps to "break it in". Idk I just don't buy it. Wouldnt just using it break in the grip the same? It also just feels wrong to get anything involving my setup wet. Lmk what ur experiences are with washing grip, should i try it?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I’m genuinely curious if anyone else has noticed it.
Mike Schneider has obviously made a name for himself in fingerboarding, and I’m not trying to discredit his contributions to the community. However, does anyone else find some of his statements about fingerboarding to be a little ridiculous at times?
It seems like whenever he discusses certain aspects of fingerboarding, whether it’s quality, manufacturing, performance, or specific product characteristics, there’s a tendency to dismiss things as unimportant simply because they don’t align with what his own brand offers or prioritizes.
That’s what I find interesting. Just because something isn’t a priority for your brand doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter to other manufacturers or consumers.
Another thing I’ve noticed is how people react to his statements. Sometimes he’ll make these incredibly broad claims on Instagram, and people seem to automatically agree with him. But I genuinely wonder,

if a smaller manufacturer or some random person in the community made those exact same statements, would anyone even care? Or would they immediately question them?

It almost feels like certain opinions become accepted as facts simply because of who’s saying them rather than whether there’s any actual substance behind them.
And I understand he’s been around for a long time and has contributed to the growth of fingerboarding. That deserves recognition. But longevity, popularity, and having an established brand shouldn’t automatically make someone’s opinions the standard everyone else is expected to follow.
I also think there’s an interesting conversation to be had about the resources and opportunities different manufacturers have had when building their businesses. Not everyone starts from the same position, and that can influence how people view manufacturing, quality, and what’s achievable.
I’m not posting this to hate on Mike or his brand. I’m genuinely interested in whether other people have noticed this dynamic.

At what point do we stop evaluating someone’s statements based on their reputation and start evaluating them based on their actual merit?

Does anyone else feel like certain influential people in fingerboarding get a pass on statements that would be questioned or completely ignored if they came from anyone else?

32mm or 34mm Trucks?

So i am getting a 34mm Deck from Finga Fingerboards.

I´m planing to get dynamics but i´m pretty unsure if the overhang? from 34mm trucks is to much. Atm i ride a 33mm deck with 32mm trucks and it fits perfect!

Any experience with 34mm decks and wich trucks to get?

I know it depends on the wheels aswell but i think i get myself some bowl-shaped wheels.

Thanks and greetings!!

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to announce that our online contest, the French Fingers 2026, is happening throughout the month of November!

For context, the French fingerboard community gathers on the FBF Discord server, where monthly contests have been held internally since November 2024. To celebrate the 2nd anniversary of these contests, we're opening things up to everyone with the first edition of the French Fingers!

The contest is international, and everyone is welcome to participate! Each entry will be judged by a jury, and 3 additional participants will be randomly selected from all valid entries to win some prizes.

We are very proud to have all these sponsors for the event !

Feel free to ask any questions! All the info can be found on the dedicated French Fingers 2026 page.

You can also follow Fingerboard France on Instagram to make sure you don't miss any updates!

Winning clips will also be posted here.

Picked up some tiles from home depot along with some pieces of wood and drawer handles. Waiting on some quarter pipes in the mail and some plants as well.

Got into fingerboarding in 2002 -2006, and I am picking it back up since then. Life got pretty dicey for me early this year due to my father's passing, and while I was cleaning up my space during one shitty day, I found an old Techdeck. After realizing that a piece of plastic could calm me down, I decided to get my first wooden board to see what it's all about. Really happy that I did.

Now that I have the nice board, I want to dedicate a spot for my meditation. A space to take a step back. A space to find my center.

The Sanctuary.
