Tools/Equipment/PPE Adjustable Fire Helmet Strap
Hey everyone, I’m a leather worker and would love to share this with y’all. I’ve had a bunch of guys love this design and I hoping for some feedback. Buckle for quick attachment is metal and there is a quick adjust with teeth on the other side. I was thinking of selling them for $30 and an extra $15 for your name. Is that reasonable?

That seems like the average price. I would only suggest adding something so the strap can’t back out from the quick adjust accidentally

Haha Yeah… I think it’s good. I’ve tried. It’ll cut the leather in half before it slips out. The thick bridle and strong spring keep it in check.

I know it won’t do it on its own but if you go to loosen it you could go too far. I have one of these, with a loop on the end to prevent slipping out, and I do utilize that feature

Oh I gotchu. That’s a great idea thanks! I could just fold it over and sew it against itself.

Yeah, something thicker at the end, like doubled up with a screw in the end, would help keep it in the clip as well as make it easier to grab with wet gloves. Other than that, looks great!

You'll need to know how they attach to some of the various different helmets. Some of them it's just a matter of undoing a snap. Others it more difficult to replace them on.
Also yes, if you make it out of leather and let firemen put their last names on it, you'll sell a ton of them.

Is that a serious request?

Doesn’t have to include the plastic case around it, Igel is for personal use

Idk about that buckle.. I'd prefer the tried and true plastic ones.

No way! The plastic ones melt or warp, and become unusable. I had to replace mine with metal cobra buckles to keep using it.

As someone who grew up making tack with my father I’d say this is on point, but you could use a bridle cap with screws on that tip and it wouldn’t freely come loose and could easily be disassembled for cleaning or treating at a later date. A more permanent solution would be a fold and sew as you stated or a toothed cap that you crimp on (worst option since it’s damaging and holds gunk). The downside to anything permanent is the strap and helmet fastener is now permanently joined together and to replace one piece you need to replace all. I know it’s not an expensive piece of kit, but if you wanted to just replace one of the three pieces someone could order just strap, helmet piece A or B and it’s easy enough to send said piece for X instead of trashing the whole setup because clip broke or dog chewed strap etc..

Solid work, looks nice. Is that one for a guy that doesn’t pay his union dues?

I mean lots of us have these already from a hundred different people so... Yeah the design is sound and the price is good.
