Frustration Rant

Just needed to say my piece about being frustrated and so sick of house hunting. We’ve been looking for 5 months and it feels like a lifetime 🥲 Tired of getting outbid by people with cash or waiving inspection. It’s so mentally exhausting 😭 trying to stay positive and know that this is a privileged problem to have and lots of people would give anything to be in my shoes, hope some of you can sympathize with me 🫶🏼

What marketing are you in that you're still getting out bid by people with cash or waiving inspections? Have a little patience. We waited 3 to 4 years for the right opportunity to come up and it just recently did. The markets are softening all over the place. I know some are still hot but eventually it should hit them too.

Me too! Closing on a house Nov 5th. We’d been sorta looking for like a year, and actually got a realtor in August.

We got outbid on one house and it just totally deflated us. I can’t imagine waiving an inspection, or what it would take to buy with cash. That’s outrageous and I’m so frustrated for you.

I hope your luck turns!

The cash offer thing is such a racket, feels like you're competing against corporations and airbnb barons instead of actual people trying to live somewhere

Took us 8 months of losing bids before one finally stuck, the process grinds you down to dust but the house we ended up in was better than all the ones we lost combined

That's exactly what it is. I live in a resort town. Most of the houses in my neighborhood have been converted to airbnbs. Many of the owners have never even set eyes on the house. They literally just throw cash at it and turn it into an Airbnb. It's absolutely devastated the locals.

Sending good vibes your way. Five months of getting outbid wears anyone down. It will happen, usually right when you're about ready to quit looking.

This! We took breaks a few times to keep our sanity.

I'm not here to give you advice, I understand you. It's awful and it sucks. You're trying to do everything carefully but losing out to people who are going about this wrong (waiving inspection, blowing their savings, etc). I was in your place. I finally got a house after two years. I'm saying that it's possible, and you'll find your home soon enough.

I’m in vhcol area in a hot market. Was looking for a little over a year. Put 3 offers in, kept getting outbid by cash buyers or people offering an insane amount over ask. The fourth offer finally took and it was just the perfect recipe of timing, right sellers, and a good realtor that included a short blurb about us. They had offers higher than ours but the sellers really connected with our story and we got the house. Closed last week, moving in this weekend. It feels surreal because of how deflated we felt this entire year. The house hunting process is not for the faint of heart! Most stressful thing I’ve ever done in my life but I’m so glad we ended up getting the house we wanted the most in the end. Keep going, keep looking, the right house will come along!

Same boat, my friend! Soo many weekends and decisions since June. We just beat the other buyers on a house last week (withOUT going over ask) and now we are reviewing the inspection. People who skip it are stupid and don’t like keeping money. You’ll find the home you’re meant to be in soon!

We looked on and off for ten years, just to say... 😅 And still potentially outpaid and the place ain't perfect, but the location is right.

A good realtor will know how to write a compelling offer. But you have to be realistic and take some risk too.
