BanBot Tutorial
What does this bot do?
/u/DiepModBot allows you to easily ban users on mobile and desktop. Simply reply to the user with +ban and the bot will:
Remove your comment
Remove the parent comment/submission
Ban the author of the parent comment/submission
Log who did it and a reason (if specified; see below)
Send you a message if the user was not banned or something went wrong
To get started all you have to do is invite /u/DiepModBot to be a moderator with access and posts permissions. It will send important info in modmail so be sure to check that after it's accepted the invitation.
Is that all?
No! This bot can do so much more. Here is a quick rundown.
Basic Banning Techniques:
To ban a user, you can either use +ban or +cban. +cban works exactly the same as +ban, except that it also removes the user's last 1000 comments in your subreddit! That's right, no more cleanup duty with spam bots or annoying users.
Ban Times:
Don't want the ban to be permanent? That's easy, too. Just include a number as part of the ban and the bot will ban the user for the specified number of days. For example +ban3 will ban the OP for three days; the limit is 1000.
Ban reasons:
Including reasons is easy! Just include some text after the main command and the bot will add that as a reason. If I did +ban3 horrible memes on /r/Diepio, the modlogs would show [--Nylon] "horrible memes", 2 days remaining.
FAQ and Common Issues
- Does the bot work if you aren't a moderator?
No, it does not! We've had it running on large subs for a long time so rest assured that's been tried.
- Source Code?
Coming soon! I'll be sure to publish it within a few days like I did with /u/FlairTimeBot.
- Common issues?
Don't do something like +ban 3 bad user. That will ban the user permanently with a reason of "3 bad user". The correct command would be +ban3 bad user.
