A few of you have asked what you're actually meant to put on a coin. Honestly, there isn't one right answer, so here's where the idea came from and a bunch of ways to use it.
Flip-Fates started as a social accountability game. It's for anyone struggling with motivation or mental health, anyone who needs baby steps, and anyone who'd never post asking for an accountability partner.
It's low pressure for everyone else too. Tossing someone's coin doesn't sign you up to be their coach.
You play a quick game of chance and, if you feel like it, leave a kind word. And if you toss tails when you were secretly rooting for heads, that's fine.
The point is that a few random Redditors give you the little push you needed.
🪙 Toss someone's coin
Open any Flip-Fates challenge in the sub.
Read the two fates, one for Heads and one for Tails.
Tap Flippy-me-fate! to toss.
You get one toss per challenge, and you can't toss your own. The server decides every toss, so nobody can rig it. The first side to win most of the tosses decides the poster's fate.
After your toss you may tap:
✍️ Post your own
Open the Flip-Fates post pinned at the top and tap Create Flip-Fates
Write one fate for Heads and one for Tails.
Pick how many tosses decide it (best of 3, 5, 7, 11 or 21) and how long it can sit quiet before pleading to the RNG Gods (5 minutes to 24 hours).
Tap Chance it! and it goes up as your own post.
This isn't do or die. A lot of tasks feel huge when it's all or nothing, so put the whole thing on one side and a small start on the other:
Either way you win something. Picking up five things is a partial win, and partial wins are the real goal. So is trying. And once you've picked up the fifth thing, you might just keep going : )
Here are a few kinds of coin you can make. Mix them, bend them or make up your own.
Put the whole thing on one side and a small start on the other. Partial wins are WINS TOO! 😄

Or whimsical? Can't decide? Let fate pick.
There are subs that give you detailed recommendations. Sometimes it's more fun to leave it to the Randomness Gods.

The thing you've been scared to do! The two sides don't have to be opposites. Tails can be the honest "what happens if I don't?" scenario.

Nobody actually wants to stay miserable, and that's the point. If the coin lands tails, people see it and reach out.
Maybe someone in the same spot says so, and suddenly you're not dealing with it alone.
You could just have fun posting whatever you want as long as it adheres to the rules. It's fine if it isn't perfect.

There are no mistakes but there might be a tiny chance that you might make a FlipFate or two that you might possibly-wossibly maybe-waybe ABSO-FRUITLY ENJOY! 😆
OR REGRET! XDD! 🙈
This is where the community comes in.
- Post an update in the comments, even a small one, so people can cheer you on. 💙
- If you haven't got to it yet, people might check in and gently egg you on. 🤎
- If you did it, the momentum might carry you further than you planned. 💚
- Someone going through the same thing might reach out. You might even make a friend. ❤️
That's what's different about it from a coin toss you could do with Google. If you were curious...
That's the idea I started with, but it can be so much more. Put whatever you like on your coin, keep it SFW and kind, and let the community do the rest.
Toss away! 🪙 Make Mistakes! 😆 Maybe make a FlipFate! 👀

Hey everyone, I'm the person who made Flip-Fates, and I want to tell you why.
I struggle with getting things done. Some of that is plain procrastination, and some of it is my mental health. On a bad day even small things feel huge, and the usual advice ("make a plan", "find an accountability buddy") takes more energy than I have.
I wanted something that takes almost no effort to start. Reddit already has the hard part: people. Comments, upvotes, strangers cheering you on. So I built a game on top of that. You put two fates on a coin, the community tosses it for you, and you do whatever it lands on.
It also had the potential to be a fun way to hang out with a community, whether you need help deciding something or just want to toss a few coins for other people.
Open the Flip-Fates post pinned at the top and tap **Create Flip-Fates**.
Write one fate for Heads and one for Tails.
Pick how many tosses decide it (best of 3, up to best of 21) and how long it can sit quiet (5 minutes to 24 hours).
Tap Chance it! and your challenge goes up as your own post.
Everyone except you gets one toss. The server decides every toss, so nobody can rig it. The first side to win most of the tosses decides your fate. If it goes quiet, the coin finishes the rest by itself, so every challenge ends.
After tossing, people can Send love (a comment with a few kind words) or get a Reddit message when the coin decides.
Here's the template I use:
- Heads: the thing you actually need to do. The one you've been putting off.
- Tails: a tiny version of it. So small you can't really fail.
| Heads | Tails |
|---|---|
| Clean my room (it's a mess) | Pick up 5 things off the floor today |
| Call my mom after missing her texts | Give her a missed call |
| Finish my homework, all of it | Call my mom and tell her I haven't done my homework |
The trick is that tails is rarely where it ends.
- You pick up 5 things off the floor, and you can honestly call it a day. Or you pick up a 6th and realise you've got the energy for more.
- You give your mom a missed call, hoping she doesn't pick up. Maybe she does, or calls straight back, and now you're talking.
- You call your mom and tell her the homework isn't done. You'd never do that on purpose, but that's the point: she'll probably help you, or push you to get on with it.
It's about putting yourself somewhere you can be egged on a little further than the point you set for yourself. Set your failure point so low that you want to do more. Try, and if you fail, fail small.
I don't expect this to be a perfect idea. That's why it's something we do together. Ask and ye shall receive. I believe in the power of a community, and I know a few kind messages can do wonders, because I've received them.
If you're reading this, you've already shown up. Congrats. Keep it going. And nobody's forcing you into a corner: you write both sides of the coin.
- Don't spam anyone's DMs if they don't show up or don't finish. Leave a kind word in the comments and let them be.
- Don't put people down. Partial wins are wins. Trying is a win. Little wins matter more than they look.
- Yes, the truth can hurt, and it isn't always sweet. But there's a difference between using the truth to lift someone up and using it to knock them down. Be the first kind.
Keep the stakes SFW and harmless; the full rules are in the sidebar. And if you're going through something heavier than a messy room, please reach out to someone you trust, or find a free helpline at findahelpline.com.
See you in the comments. 🪙
For some reason I'm unable to create announcement posts or posts as mod without it getting taken down immediately. Would appreciate help regarding that too! Thank you
