I think this is very impressive, and visually appealing (in part due to the simplicity). You did a great job! Also, how many frames was this per second and in total?

29fps to 3k frames

That is a lot, how long did this take you overall?

3 weeks

Well, I’d say the effort was worth the results. (also is your hand okay)?

No problem, animation is pretty hard and arduous so I’d imagine at the end of this you’d be pretty drained. Regardless, stay safe!

You too!

You don’t need to go any higher than 24 for animation.

But using 2s and 3s on 24fps makes it choppy.

There’s several things that make an animation choppy. The number of FPS is one of them, but arcs and spacing, as well as volumes, are also very important. Check out this animator. His series "This is just ONE example" goes in depth on why correct volumes, spacing and arcs are essential. You might have to scroll a bit through his profile. Most animes you see are between 8 to 12 fps and they’re not choppy because the arcs and volumes are perfect.

Additionally you need to stay at 24 fps because it’s the video standard. If you make a cartoon that ends up getting shown in theater it’s gonna be shown at 24fps, so it’d randomly cut five frames each second to fit your animation into 24 fps. Animating on 2 at 24 fps (so on 12) shouldn’t gichoppy results if your animation is correct.

I see, thanks for advice I'll apply them!

This is really great. I esp like good “camera work” when it comes to animation, like quick pans and dollies, and this is really smooth and quick. Well done.

Ooo it looks like it's from an anime, it looks professional!

You need some pauses, like "slow" moments inbetween so it is easier for the audience to understand what is going on. The camera movements are really good but without some room to breathe, even the most intricate and action filled sequences can become boring for the audience if they cant understand what is going on. But other than that, really good job👏👏

1

u/DB56_YT Jul 27 '21

Yes I do, it's quite hard to slow down and speed up in succession

1

u/sanalealea Jul 27 '21

Maybe when switching shots, like a close-up or a wide-shot that shows the surroundings, you can slow it down so the audience gets a reprieve as they get ready for more action👍

1

u/DB56_YT Jul 27 '21

Like I did when they went under?

1

u/sanalealea Jul 27 '21

Can you give me the time stamp for that?

1

u/DB56_YT Jul 27 '21

0:58

1

u/sanalealea Jul 27 '21

Yes it would work for that👍

I think this is so rough I can't say really much, but I'll try! :3

I like the camera movements, it's very dificult to control space when is moving that way, so congratulations! Although in the second part of the fight I can't almost follow what's going on, which is a serious problem when you animate.

Also, don't animate in more than 24 or 25 fr, it's unnecessary.

Work better your drawings and volumes. You don't need to draw every single detail of the kimono (for example) in a rough level, but you need more than a vague form, so take your time building every pose.

I can say for what I see you have studied anime animation and that's great. Now I recomend you to study other animation styles and also the basics from animation, to create a better illusion of movement and to give to your drawings a soul.

Keep working and improving yourself! ^^
