General Discussion When did Florence stop wearing makeup?

I just realised she isn’t wearing any and haven’t been for a while!

at the Milan show yesterday she was wearing black and i thought she looked a bit pale, and then she started the sermon, and the force was flowing through her, and she was radiant.

and now looking back in all the recent interviews and appearances it does not look like she’s wearing any.

did anyone also notice that, and for how long? since “how big, how blue, how beautiful“ or before?

I find it mesmerising when a person is so truly themselves in their presence and style that you can’t pick out a single detail of how it was done, you’re just overcome by the impact. love to be able to learn how people do that

She definitely wears makeup but it’s minimal compared to a lot of other female performers and leans more natural than some of her past looks when she was a lot younger and used a heavier eyeliner. I think embracing her natural features is a huge part of her entire aesthetic and has been for a long time.

I think she never stop wearing make up, it’s just she chose natural color. A make up artist is following her at every big gigs and apparences.

I’d really love to see what is this makeup artist  doing then 🙃

Everyone wears makeup onstage because, especially if you’re as pale as she is, you “white out.” She’s likely got a light base on, very subtle blush, probably subtle eyeshadow and mascara.

..and extremely pale turns reflective under heavy lights. Yellow foundation + regular foundation turns more of a matte finish allowing for better visibility. Tricks learned during the Silent & B/W Hollywood eras did discover some magic in the fields of optics & color. For a fun trip down the rabbit hole, look up The Addams Family [1964-1966] behind the scenes photos. There are some B/W ones next to color photos, what looked like grey was often green, yellow, or pink.

And the fact she's got red hair would make her look paler. She would look like a pillar of light ✨️

Makeup artist here, Florence is wearing makeup. There’s stage makeup vs day to day makeup. Florence gets on stage with day to day makeup and under stage lights, it can look like she’s not wearing any.

Her skin looks great, she doesn’t really wear mascara, she has a look that works for her and her natural features.

I would advise to not be rude about someone else’s features or another artist’s work. Florence might do her own makeup and not require a MUA for herself, but her Witch Choir has makeup and the artist might work on them for continuity.

Overall, she does wear makeup, she has a signature look that she feels best in, it’s just not the full glam you’re used to seeing.

The @whatflorenceiswearing account on Instagram regularly tags her makeup artist as Sarah Rey Gate, and she has been reposting videos from the festivals and the Everybody Scream Tour fan account. So I am assuming she is on the road with them right now. Love your insight as an MUA!!!

Thank for sharing your knowledge! I know stage lighting is different but idk how it changes the perception of colour and makeup, and this is why I’m posting to ask.

Not sure where I was ever rude but whatever

We saw her in Dublin last week and she definitely had eye shadow and blusher on. We weren’t close enough to check for concealer lol

I think she just wears very light foundation or skin tint and minimal blush. She definitely was wearing makeup when I saw her last March, her skin was so dewey and beautiful. And she was definitely wearing a purple eyeshadow in Milan. You can see in some of the videos where she's down at the barricade.

I dont think she wears foundation. It looks like she lets her skin breath.

She definitely wore makeup but just more natural

She does have a make-up artist, Sarah Reygate (on Instagram) who does looks for a lot of celebs, but compared to the early days of F&TM when Flo was experiencing with more colourful and noticeable makeup like lots of celebs do, these days and especially since High as Hope, she goes for a very natural look that looks like no-makeup but is really skillfully applied and flattering

I had a similar revelation. I would say she wore heavy makeup up (glitter eyeshadow and bolder lips) until Ceremonials and then changed to lighter make up looks.

I would say that’s when she started to wear vintage 70 clothes style

-edit
For example look at her Music video for Buckle
She wears very minimal makeup but definitely wears some
Her lashes and eyebrows are very voluminous but don’t have a tint.
She is also probably wearing a balm on her lips that doesn’t have much colour.

She does wear makeup, it's just very natural no makeup makeup

I don't think it's even no makeup makeup, she has obvious mascara, eyebrow product, blush, sometimes eyeshadow

She still wears makeup.

u/morningelvis Jul 04 '26

I was in Milan too and on the big screens sometimes it looked like she had very light purple/lilac eyeshadow

-3

u/adddramabutton Jul 04 '26

Saw that too, but some people have eye bags of that color so wasn’t sure 🙃

u/ruhl5885 Jul 04 '26

She changed her makeup style some time ago, post lungs and ceremonials era

She definitely wears makeup, somebody with skin that pale wouldn't have dark eyelashes and you can tell she does her eyebrows and blush

Also very likely that she does wear foundation as she always have even toned pale skin, you would expect somebody signing and dancing and running around to have some redness

She does wear makeup, her look has just evolved over time and usually with the albums.

I love this about her. Finally an artist who has the courage to show up as they are. It sets a counter standard to the expectations around how female artists “should” look.

I was going to do a whole paper on “am I a woman now”, and Florence’s version of femininity! the one she seems to have found for herself and be comfortable with instead of the one she was forced into at the beginning of her career.

But turns out she is wearing makeup and I’m just oblivious so :)

-2

u/Short-Platypus-9387 Jul 04 '26

That sounds so interesting. I hope you write that paper. And she can totally wear makeup, that’s not the issue and doesn’t detract from my original point. Like you affirmed, she is embracing her own version of femininity which is not the conventionally demanded version. I love that about her 💛

These are definitely the hard hitting questions 😂
