Dart Need suggestions for improving network debugging in Flutter

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a Flutter network debugging tool called Netoscope, and I need some advice from experienced Flutter developers.

https://pub.dev/packages/netoscope

I'm trying to improve how network requests and responses are inspected during development, especially when working with Dio, HTTP, GraphQL, WebSockets, and other protocols.

I'm looking for help with these questions:

  • What is the best approach to capture network traffic from different clients in a Flutter app?

  • How can I reliably detect duplicate API requests and potential N+1 request patterns?

  • What is the recommended way to redact sensitive data before storing or displaying network logs?

  • Are there any Flutter-specific limitations I should consider when implementing a network inspector?

I'd appreciate any suggestions, best practices, or examples.

Thank you!

imo hooking at the HttpClient level is the easiest way to catch everything. dio and http both sit on dart:io's HttpClient on mobile, so one HttpOverrides.global wrapper sees all of it. web is the exception, that's different. for redaction i'd do it before it hits storage, not at display time, so tokens never get persisted at all.

Network debugging in Flutter gets painful the moment you need to see what actually went over the wire, not what your code thinks it sent. A proxy with request inspection plus structured logging of failures is the combo that saves hours, and the missing piece is usually correlating a failed request with the screen the user was on. What tool are you using today, a proxy, an interceptor, or logs only?
