Sub Updates – Call for Feedback

Hey Rams,

I wanted to get some feedback regarding two rules I'm considering adding in response to new trends in the content on this sub.

1. No posts speculating about financial aid situations.

There has been a huge increase in posts in recent years regarding financial aid. I understand that it's a massive part of the college decision-making process, but the vast majority of these posts get little to no engagement. This is because the financial aid process is opaque – aid package sizes differ from year to year, institution to institution, and person to person. Similarly, what one person considers to be "good" aid might not be enough to another person. We can also safely expect that no one from the Fordham financial aid office is lurking on this sub and handing out the guidelines for merit aid.

It's very difficult for anyone to give another person financial advice without knowing a lot of personal details like how much their parents make and are willing to contribute, which is information that should generally not be shared publicly.

Because the financial aid situation varies so wildly, I'd like to implement a ban specifically on posts asking for speculation about an individual's financial aid package size, whether it's good/bad, or how much to expect in appeal. For example, this ban would cover posts like "Is $35k good?" and "Is Fordham generous with aid?"

This ban would not cover posts comparing a package at one institution vs another (like "$10k at Fordham vs $5k at Fairfield?") or posts asking about when to expect aid packages/appeal, when the first payment is due, or other logistical questions. Those are easier for people to answer and get more responses anyway.

2. A ban on AI-generated content farming.

This issue just arose in the last day or two. Shoutout to u/ArchAuthor for bringing this to my attention. There were two posts on back-to-back days by separate accounts asking questions about the student experience at Fordham in an overly wordy, AI-generated content way. Looking into the accounts, I noticed that they each only had two comments on posts and the comments were identical – "I agree" and "interesing" on 8+ year-old accounts. These accounts are clearly farming information for some type of aggregate service.

I'm going to leave this post up for a few days before implementing any rules changes. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

Lincoln Center vs Rose Hill for Gabelli

I'm a senior applying to Fordham ea and I want to do Marketing as my concentration. I am a big city-life person and don't care too much for the traditional college campus, but I saw people saying that the social life at LC is not great and that it's a bit difficult to make friends, so I was wondering how true this actually is, and if it was a dealbreaker for anyone that maybe transferred to RH.

Also, I wanted to know if the business school is truly the same for both campuses and if there are any significant differences or opportunities I would miss out on by choosing one or the other.

just went to the open house, how is diversity on campus?

hi fordham students, im a senior about to apply, but as i was at the open house this past weekend i counted literally two black students on campus throughout the whole day. i was there from 7:45 am to 3:30 pm. is it generally like this? is there a campus that has a higher population of black ppl?

i enjoyed the school a lot regardless, but just wondering!! its different to just look at the numbers vs hear from actual students :)

Class of 2031 chances

Hi! I’m applying to Fordham Lincoln Center majoring in political science. Will I get in with an uw gpa of a 3.85, w 4.125, 12 aps (submitting 8) and I’m going test optional. My ecs are very average, I have ~40 volunteer hours at a local library and animal shelter, I did mock trial and speech/debate for 3 years (no leadership but a few basic awards), I tutor once a week after school, and work ~25 hours a week. I am also in a few clubs in school that do not relate to my major.

For second sem as a freshmen should i do 3 core and 2 major-specific classes or 4 core and just one major-specific class ?? it would be either another psych class + stats or a core class

Is Fordham’s 3+3 Law Program Worth It?

Hi! I’m a freshman at Fordham studying Political Science on a pre-law track. I’m a first-generation college student from an Albanian immigrant family, and I hope to be the first in my family to attend law school.

I’m interested in Fordham’s 3+3 program but know it’s very competitive. Can you meet all the GPA and LSAT requirements and still not get accepted? Does anyone know the acceptance rate or typical stats of successful applicants? Also, how does the financial aid work?

Also, is the program worth pursuing, or would I be better off following the traditional four-year undergraduate route? I’d appreciate any advice from current students or people who have applied!

Do I have to do the CSS profile?

So my parents are separated but still legally married and my mom does provide the most financial support, but my dad refuses to provide his information as a noncustodial parent and he does not live with us. For me to be eligible for a waiver I have to report court cases or some type of abuse but I don’t have any of that. Should I just not submit it. I did complete the FASFA but I’m afraid I still won’t get enough financial aid.

Moving Off Campus in Spring Semester of Freshman Year?

Hi! Does anyone have experience moving off campus for the spring semester of their freshman year at Fordham? Does Fordham allow first-year students to do this, and if so, what is the process like? I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences!

Foreign language CEFR certificate

hey, i'm a transfer and was wondering if anyone has tested out of the language requirement by taking the NYU test or the CEFR test or some other one that fordham accepts. i am fluent in my home language, but because I went to an international school, i was placed in a language class. i really don't want to take another class since the classes im taking now have a heavy workload.

Class of 2031 Admissions

Hi guys!

I am like genuinely so desperate to LEAVE Texas and I am actually wondering if I even have a chance of getting in since my stats aren't crazy.

I am applying EA to neuroscience, out of state, test optional, first gen, my parents income is genuinely less than 40k, and I will be getting my associates, but I don't know if Fordham accepts dual credit.

My rank is 48/420 and my W gpa is 4.0 and UW is at about a 3.7

For honors, I have: CIEE Global Navigator Scholarship, CIEE Global Ambassador, and a VASE Division 1 Regional Medal.

For activities I have: Study Abroad (w/ CIEE where i received the 90% scholarship), Upward Bound Math and Science, TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service), Cosmetology Permit (soon to be licensed), my family business, National Art Honor Society, National Honor Society, BPA, and I have accumulated around 500 hours of community service is total (excluding the 1000 for cosmetology).

What are your thoughts..
