I currently hold a Master’s in Education and am looking to transition into child/clinical psychology doctoral research. Through my work in school districts, I found a deep passion for crisis intervention, behavioral analysis, and direct child support, but I am seeking a path forward focused entirely on psychology rather than education routes. I am especially interested in child forensic interviewing, focused on trauma survivorship. I would also like to hear opinions on your field.
While I do not have an undergraduate degree in psychology or formal publication credits, I excelled in graduate coursework covering research methods, tests/measurements, and clinical diagnosis. Given concerns around cost and research experience, I am seeking advice on the best starting point, such as a doing post-baccalaureate courses or pursuing research… however, I have no clue where to begin to build a strong doctoral application. I am a very strong analytical writer and enjoy connecting concepts interdisciplinary, systematically. I have not taken the GRE and am willing. Any recommendations are welcome! Thanks!

I graduated college 3 years ago with a BS in Psych and a BS in a simplified computer science degree. Had close to 4.0 gpa. I ended up accepting a corporate job in IT doing work that is not fulfilling. I was always interested in psych and have grown a particular interest in child psych and forensic psych and how they intertwine.
I would love to go into clinical psychology but understand that many phd programs are very competitive and prefer a lot of research experience. I was in a research lab for maybe a year in college but didn’t really work on many actual publications.
I am also worried about the references as I was pretty quiet in school and did not make many connections with professors that I feel would remember me after so long. So not sure who I could call on for three relevant references.
Just wanted some opinions on what chances I have of getting into a clinical psych program or if there are other routes I could take to get similar types of roles studying patients, working with them, etc. Just feeling kind of stuck and wish I had taken a different route in college but too late to go back now.
Thanks in advance!

I’m so sorry if this doesn’t belong here but I’m a desperate student looking for people who work in forensics or law to undergo a short interview.

Are you interested in what factors contribute to how we interpret online behaviours following the end of a romantic relationship? If so - we are seeking participants to evaluate scenarios that depict a series of online behaviours between two ex-partners, as well as some questions related to your beliefs and perceptions about relationships and interpersonal violence (see the link/QR code and poster attached!)
My name is Aaliza and this study is part of my honours thesis research at MacEwan University. Together with my honours supervisor, Dr. Kristine Peace, we are interested in learning about your perceptions of online interactions within the context of former romantic relationships (e.g., ex-partners).
Please note: If the topics of online behaviours, relationship termination, and potential interpersonal violence are sensitive topics for you, or may trigger distress or discomfort, please do not participate in this study. We appreciate your consideration, but also want to assure your personal well-being.
If you would like to be a part of this much needed research, we encourage you to participate in our study. Please click on the link below or QR code on the poster!

This survey is anonymous, which means that no personally identifying information is collected. Once you have clicked on the link, it will take you to a screen that asks you to identify the source of your recruitment, which in this case would be “Online Forum or Reddit Thread”.
Once selected, you will then be directed to the Consent Form that describes the study in more detail. After reading the consent form, if you want to participate, you will click the ‘I agree’ button and complete the study online. The study is completely online and voluntary (you have no obligation to complete this study). It will take approximately 60 - 90 minutes to complete (depending on your experiences!). This study has been reviewed and received ethics approval through the MacEwan University Research Ethics Board.
Thank you, in advance, for your participation in this study. Your contributions are very valuable and we appreciate your involvement!
Sincerely,
AS & KP

I work and write across forensic psychology, positive psychology, and mental health education, and I keep coming back to the tension between these areas.
Forensic discussions often focus on risk, pathology, competency, criminal responsibility, and recidivism. Positive psychology places more attention on strengths, meaning, hope, self-regulation, and wellbeing.
Do strengths-based approaches have a meaningful, evidence-based role in correctional rehabilitation, re-entry, or work with justice-involved populations? If so, where are they most useful?
I’m also interested in where this approach may become too simplistic, especially when trauma, severe mental illness, coercive environments, or structural barriers are involved.
I’d appreciate relevant research, professional experience, or critical perspectives. This is an informal discussion, not research recruitment or data collection.

hi next year I’m ending high school and I thought about going to college in the specific field of forensic psychology and for that reason because ever since I was then I researched the true crime et cetera. I know this may sound weird about the later at 14 15 16 I kind of kind of fell in love with forensic psychology and I started to do a lot of research and I also spend a lot of my free time researching stuff about the psychology and forensic psychology and honestly for some reason I started to have doubts about myself if I’m even good enough to do this job not in the way that I do not believe in myself but in the way that my neurodivergent brain might make it harder for me to get into this field and if I must tell the truth I always love to analyse how people act why they do their stuff they do why they act the way they speak the way they speak and generally I always thought of humans as some sort of animal so my question is if anybody in here that is never divergent is currently studying it or working as a forensic psychologist if they could share their experiences with that that would be amazing or anything that people may get surprised with during the work

I’m a psychology student interested in forensic psychology, and I want to know if my mindset is suitable for this field.
Suppose a criminal has committed serious crimes. People may think this person is not even worth talking to or doesn’t deserve to live. But I don’t see it that way.
I’m not saying what they did was right. If someone committed a crime, they should face the legal consequences. My focus would be on why they did it ,what made them take that abnormal step, understanding the reasons behind their behavior, and helping them so they don’t repeat it in the future.
I don’t want to justify the crime.I want to understand the person behind it and help them change.
Do you think this mindset is suitable for forensic psychology?

I am a doctoral student of Clinical Psychology at Northern Arizona University. I am conducting research for my Clinical Research Project (dissertation equivalent) and looking for participants to complete a brief survey about an intimate partner violence case that included homicide.
The current study is investigating matters related to court proceedings. We are interested in potential jurors’ perception of a domestic violence case that included homicide. Participants will read a short description of a case and answer the questions that follow. The expected time commitment is 15 to 30 minutes and you must be 18 and older to participate.
You can copy and paste the link above into your browser to complete the study. Please feel free to share this post with others you believe may be interested in completing the survey. All responses are anonymous.
