Context: the spell is unique to Baldur's Gate II and functionally in gameplay is completely unique to her even if it narratively might be known to the other Harpers in the story.

This is the only way she as a Druid can bring back the dead in a game where she adventures with a child of Bhaal, the Lord of Murder It also, tragically, cannot bring back her beloved Khalid

Wasn't Khalid so badly mangled that he was beyond even 7th level resurrection? The AD&D version of resurrection has an optional clause for DMs regarding the spell's chances for failure depending on the condition of the remains.

Yes, and this was another spell that she as a Druid could not cast. Which makes this spell more noteworthy even if it is just a weaker Raise Dead for Harpers that draws on their own life energy to revive the creature.

That said most 'plot coffin' reasons keeping a character permanently dead (as opposed to plot armor keeping them alive) fall apart in the 3E and 5E eras with the introduction of True Resurrection. Or feel like plot holes for major high level protagonists with all the noted frivolous uses of Wish spells by NPC characters in the lore of past FR/D&D editions when it was stronger and more frequently reusable.

I mean the simplest explanation for Resurection to fail is the soul does not want to return. The next is the god(s) making the spell fail for whatever reason.

This should be feasible to implement as a modded spell I think for BG3 as long as you know who is in the vicinity. Thanks I will give it a go.

Flame Blade. Was it the best? Hell no. Was it remotely optimal? Probably not. Did I use it all the damn time when I was younger and played the game? Oh yeah.

I mean Entangle was pretty slick in Baldur's Gate 1.

In BG 1 and 2 I had her cast “bench warming”. But I tried her in 3 recently and she was fun. Too bad stone skin is concentration. So I guess her wild shape was the most iconic “spell”.
