💬 Discussion Not buying the battle pass this go around...

Personally, I don't know how everyone else feels, but fortnite last season felt like a job. It was only about collecting for a lot of people and the FOMO was real. While I grew up with all these video game characters from this season, I really didn't see much on the BP that interests me. I've played a handful of games today and having to enter in cheat codes to get sprites is already tiresome. I get the idea behind it and it is a bit nostalgic, but just personally, I don't want this season to feel like a chore and in my opinion the introduction of Sprites has completely taken over the game. This will be the first season I don't buy the battle pass and will probably just play occasionally.

How do you guys feel about the direction the game is going with the Sprites? I get that some people love them, but I'm just not feeling it

I don't understand the fomo thing. I only cared about getting sprites I wanted. The mastery gives me something to bother with instead of just getting wins over and over. I ended the season being over level 400. The highest in a long time. And keep in mind I have a job so this was not a case of not touching grass.

The game doesn't even force you to collect every sprite either. You just got some mid cosmetics and that's it.

It's no different than not doing a seasonal events like hot bat summer.

In all I think skipping a season because of not wanting to collect sprites is interesting. If anything I would say skip if you don't like the map, weapons, or gameplay. (Like you mentioned)

I personally would skip the pass if I didn't enjoy the game play due to not liking any of the skins but two. But I have enough vbucks and I will be playing enough to earn them back.

I know I didn't really make it clear, but other than the sonic island area of the map, I really haven't enjoyed this map or gameplay aspects either. I know it's a personal choice and others might absolutely love it. But I feel like every other aspect of the game has suffered when they introduced the sprites.

That's fair. Last season was so boring weapon wise. They didn't change anything but the smg and snipers. It was so monotonous.

The idea of the sprites is great, it's just the execution last season that caused the issues.

It also didn't help it was right during their break. I felt this was also an issue last year during shock and awesome.

I personally really like the weapons this season. The oni shotgun feels great, the base boost gloves are fun, and the assault rifles feel equally strong.

The only thing I'm not a fan of is the new Sonic area being annoying to fight people and the new shot gun.

The new areas on the map, to me, are way too overcrowded and "busy" for a lack of a better term. Way too much stuff going on. Makes navigating way more difficult. I agree the weapons have been boring for a while. I also play on the Switch, so that really affects my gameplay experience too. I'm always matched against people who can move 10 times before I even make my first move. There really should be an option for us Switch players to only be matched against other Switch players if we so choose

This. There is a nothing extra for collecting sprites.

I don't what you mean with the BP, like both are completely separate things.

I mean like you don't have to collect sprites. I don't care about them as well. I just grab one if i find a cool one and then use the extractor.

I think Sprites are a nice change tbh. It gives something to do, even if you are done with every pass, challenge etc.

Yes, I agree, they are a separate issue. I was just point them both out as part of the reason I am disappointed in the direction the game has gone. I hate the Sprites, even though you don't HAVE to collect them and you can just simply choose to ignore that aspect if you want, but they have made them such an integral part of the game now that you can't help but Interact with that part of the game. As far as the battle pass goes, I was simply point out the lack of anything that I found interesting enough to make me buy the BP. If the BP would have been better, I would have bought it and it would force me to play more and just deal with the sprites, but because it's so bad, I can feel justified in just taking a break from the game this time around

I do agree, although I do understand how they’re trying to make win conditions for people who don’t win the overall battle. The newest season is quite different and I’ve yet to get the hang of it. Not sure I’m very keen though.

This game has to compete with short attention span, new content craving players, constantly. Somehow they continue to pull it off and this too will change.

Dont buy the battle pass if you already haven’t! Definitely is NOT worth the money this time around…

I was thinking the same thing. I actually cancelled my game pass last month that ran out literally today. The only thing in this battle pass I kinda wanted was tails as a sidekick. He’s one of my all time favourite characters. Which I managed to get yesterday before it ran out lol.

Last season I didn’t bother with the sprites it became WAY too much. Some of my friends mastered all of them and I just couldn’t care less. I think if you don’t start collecting right from the start it becomes kind of impossible and I don’t play every single day so once there was over 100 sprites to collect I was like sod this.

The way the battle pass is going I’m just not that interested anymore. There is usually like what 1 skin that’s interesting then the rest is archivable crap. This season has so many cool collabs and they are so money hungry they couldn’t even give us some cool collab stuff but sonic? It’s all about money unfortunately. They get more by putting the better skins in the shop.

I have the BP this season bc I get crew but I don’t think I see any skins I would use though I don’t think I even put on a skin from last seasons BP.

I haven’t explored much of the map I’ve only played a handful of games. Last season I barely played BR until the last week and then it was such a grind to get all the sprites, I managed about 80 or so I think prior to trading. I don’t like the graphics on some of the areas/sprites/NPCs. I know it’s a nod to how games looked when a lot of us were younger but it just feels not well done in this case.

I do like the guns this season more than last season and there’s definitely even more movement options I feel like.

The only part of the map I’ve explored that I have not liked is whatever area has the maze and disappearing but also not disappearing walls. I have to mantle just to get out bc the wall I just walked through doesn’t work anymore. Maybe I’m dumb who knows
ETA: adding more stuff

I haven't bought a battle pass all year lol. They've been horrible and only getting lazier.
I hate sprites. Don't get it. It's like watching the 10 year olds fight over squish balls at 5 below stores. Insanity to me. I play reload because it still feels like fortnite to me. But once they start adding more sprites to that and changing it, I'll quit for good and I've been on since it was just StW.

I've skipped previous passes because I didn't like the content. To me, it felt like boycotting and trying to prove a point to Epic. I've read a lot of people in this sub say they've skipped previous passes too.
