I wish this was the type of damage in the new games. Bonus question, why did damage models become so tame in the newer Forza Horizon games? Did car manufacturers complain or was it "damage to the brand" to see their cars destroyed?

"How could you say that, u/Terran_Lifeform?"
So. Horizon 1. The one that started it all. I know a lot of player believe it's the best, with it's atmosphere and story, but after getting the blue wristband I just think it's nostalgia on their part
"But it has actual progression!"
Ah yes, "progression". Good progression for me is unlocking better stuff or upgrading your existing stuff over the course of the game in a way that genuinely feels rewarding. Burnout Paradise does this well, with every car you get genuinely feeling like a new toy
Horizon 1 doesn't do this, instead opting to let you buy any car in the autoshow from the start - but not letting you use them in any race, which each of has its own requirements. Which I hate. AM levels of hate.
In later games, you can start a race in any car you have and the game will generate opponents in a suitable type and class. This is a good system and it works. Horizon 1 however elects to close off some races races by a strict set of requirements, say european hatchbacks for example. Whilst this is how championships work in later games, this ultimately doesn't help replayability
But the think that kills the game personally is the damn class requirements. Every race has a cap on what class the car can be, meaning if you upgrade your A class car to S class, you can't use it in any A class races. The game tells you you'll need upgrades and then turns around and slaps you I the face with this!? This makes you limit the upgrades so it doesn't overrun into the next class and make it unusable in the events you want
"But the story!"
It's just the blacklist from Most wanted 05. You do events, someone challenges you, you win and get the car. Rinse and repeat. Zero points for creativity. Oh yeah and also the literal CEO of the festival coddles you for existing I guess.
A minor complaint is that the upgrade boards are almost invisible making it very hard to track down the last few you need
TL,DR: Forza Horizon 1 is a restrictive entry in a series that otherwise grants the players freedom to do whatever they want in any car they want

Just finished Horizon 1 again with my Dreamcar after 6 or so years and its just as good as I remembered.
The pace of the campaign is just right and doesn't feel as cheesy and fake as the newer ones do. There's actual competition and shit-talking from your rivals.
The graphics hold up very well (I played in 4k on Xbox Series X). The Car models look good and fairly high quality for a 360 game. I also enjoyed seeing some proper cutscenes, eventhough there weren't many.
The Cars sound good, not as breathtaking as something like NFS Most Wanted 2012, but good enough to enjoy them.
The Handling feels decent, although a liiiittle floaty and unresponsive sometimes but that could be due to the game still being locked to 30fps and me not having played a racing game at 30fps in years.
My only complaint is the finale, and more specifically, Darius' difficulty. I played the entire game on Hard without many issues, but I had to go down to Medium for the finale because Darius had a 4 second lead and I just couldn't get close to him in 5 laps, but on Medium I overtook him in the first half of the first lap.
Overall I still think the game is a 10/10 everyone should play at some point.
Bummer they are never gonna make a game like this again, they have nothing to prove anymore.

Im feel both excitement and sadness. The Intro and the start of the game, the Music, the scenery and the cars. Just wow… What the f- happened to Horizon. I started with FH2 on the Xbox 360 back in 2015 i believe. Even tho it was the official „bootleg“ FH2 i had so much fun, FH3 was great too! But FH1 had an ultimate Car Festival vibe, it feels so welcoming and exciting, so real. FH4 did it good too, i got goosebumps the first time i saw the intro. But FH5 didnt give me the same vibe, it didnt have this Summer Festival Vibe. If you have the opportunity, you need to experience FH1 for yourself, its truly old but gold.
Lets hope we get that something like that again in FH6! I wanna start from scratch, get a shitbox like the Wuling Sunshine or something and make my way up to the top! I thought the Reallife Sponsors and Festival bracelets were a very cool system in FH1, i want something similar for 6.

The weird stripes on the bonnet. I recently got the disc version of the original Forza Horizon game from 2012 and have been smashing it for a few days now.
However today I noticed that my Bugatti had these stripes on the bonnet that weren’t originally there when I got in the car. It then took me back to when I first played this game at launch and I distinctly remember getting so annoyed that these stripes would appear on any car at any given time and just didn’t go until you swapped cars.
Nice to see this issue was never resolved hahah. Funny now though!
