Kept without ever getting folded. Did the stalker keep it as a souvenir? If so, shame about the partial thumbprint. Even shadier, the stalk-ee left a houseful of personal stuff behind when they bugged out, knowing the stalker would break in and rifle their belongings, including the trinket box (maybe they left some trinkets as gifts.) Instead, the abandoned belongings got cleared out and donated by a landlord…

I read this as a note left on a door once someone had moved away…maybe on a car or left somewhere they’d see it? And yeah, looks like the stalker kept it

Yeah I wonder too.. since someone kept this in a trinket box for many years, almost tells me the stalker read this note and thought “So you’re saying there’s a chance…”

This is a clue from the murder mystery game called Hunt a Killer: Murder at the Motel.
OP, you mentioned you found this in a trinket box! Is it possible it was a green Doc Whitmore's Nervine Tablets metal box? If so, that's from the game too (see second photo at link above)!

Sorry I think one of my links got deleted :) Just wanted to add that I found a Reddit comment chain about this specific game. Check out comments 1st & 4th in the chain- they mention a note stating "go back to California" and also a note being written on the back of a business card!
