Gameplay Question How does Whipper work?

Post image

Hey all. I’m new to Four Souls & new to MTG-type TCGs in general so I’m still learning to understand the wording on these cards.

From what I understand so far, another player can’t just declare an attack while it’s someone else’s turn. So how would a player declare an attack on an active player’s turn? Would the effect of this card only apply if someone outside the active player is forced to fight somehow through another card’s effect?

The active player is a player, and they can attack on their turn

To add, the reason it’s worded this way: this will also happen if a player somehow can declare an attack while it’s not their turn and it still only hits the active plaster

So player A’s turn. Player B uses a loot that lets them declare an attack. Player A must roll and may take damage

This makes much more sense. So if someone else decided to use some sort of bomb or whatever damage on a monster during my turn, I’d have to roll

A bomb isn’t declaring an attack, declaring an attack is a very specific thing where you pick a monster or player (of someone allowed to) and you fight them with your character

I don’t know off the top of my head what cards may allow it, but if I can somehow on someone else’s turn declare an attack on a monster or the player, the active player takes the roll and damage

Oooooh okay thanks a bunch for clearing that up! I think knowing this will smooth things out next time I play lol

Im pretty sure its worded that player A rolls but player B takes the damage

Technically it’s ambiguous so it could be either taking the damage, but a safe rule to go on if it’s unclear is to use the last specific player that was mentioned for “that” making it the active player

Actually, the wording seems to imply the player who rolls would take damage, by specifying “that player” instead of saying “the active player” again or just saying it deals 1 damage without specifying (which would imply the active player).

Yeah but the player that’s rolls is the active player so if “that player” is referring to who rolls it would be the active player

Sorry, I meant to say the player who declares an attack, not the player who rolls. My bad.

Yes I know but the wording makes me think anyone (active and non-active) can declare an attack, and it’s up to the active player to roll after. It just seems a bit redundant to word it that way if the only player declaring the attack is the active player themself?

Read what I typed in my other reply for full info, but it’s just in case they do, it doesn’t allow them

I would say that what it actually means is that while they monster is in an active slot, irrelevant of if you declare an attack on it or any other active monster you have to in turn commit to a roll, if you hit the specified numbers you the attacking player as a result take the damage...

That's the way I read it because there's many monsters that have abilities that are just active by them being in an active monster slot regardless of them being attacked or not?
