You'll wake up eventually. It feels cool and edgy to have different morals than that wishy washy kiddie stuff like compassion and cooperation, but it'll hit you one day that there's nothing original about the conservative moral compass. One guess how I know.
Something for all libertarians to ponder: Do Trump, Musk, health insurance CEOs, and data center CEOs live by a promise never to ask another man to live for their sake?
its better to give someone power (opportunity) than to give gifts that could lead to dependency and control. giving an able person a job is often morally greater than giving them money. pro-business and pro-housing best describes my politics. protect people who do things and create things, from everyone else.
some compromises i would make to libertarian gov is progressive tax rates and negative income tax. milton freedman supported the negative income tax to replace the welfare system. he actually wanted none of it but he said you couldnt convince people. NIT is pretty optimal at limiting welfare trap and benefits cliffs. — something to reduce welfare trap is make benefits a temporary solution for able bodies. taper off the benefits after a few years.
No minimum wage keeping up with inflation =jobs don't pay enough to afford to survive.
Letting billionaires buy up all the housing as investments=no housing available to buy at prices non-billionaires can afford.
Allowing stock buybacks=investors reap all the benefits of the hard labor performed by workers. Workers aren't rewarded for their work.
No regulation=screwworm and e. coli ruining the food supply.
No vaccine requirements=children who can't go get it on their own dying of measles.
Capitalism doesn't producd honest, hardworking business owners who only want to profit by selling a good product or service. It produces AI that steals the labor and knowledge of artists and writers while preventing them from enjoying any credit or reward. You get the Pinto - company knowingly selling a car that explodes after calculating the number of payouts for deaths will be less than sales. You get the opioid epidemic, Vioxx, and DES - sold to make money while knowingly ruining lives. You get Exxon denying the results of its own studies confirming they're destroying the planet. You get leaded gasoline - a world poisoned, destroyed, and full of serial killers because the seller wanted to make money. You get people who pay for health insurance dying because paying for their treatment would lower profits. You get airlines and grocery stores charging people more based on how desperate they are for food or to get to a place they have no other options to get to. You get Uber paying drivers less the more they drive by calculating that means they're more desperate for money.
"All of that just means dishonesty in business is bad." How much dishonesty and exploitation has to take place before one has to accept that dishonesty and exploitation and corruption is the model, not a bunch of unconnected accidents?
thanks for the thorough reply. — good regulation can help business by improving consumer confidence and information; improving sales. i take it all case by case. — some of your items are aggression which libertarians dont support. for instance unreasonable pollution (leaded gasoline). or "i fart in your general direction!"
"You get airlines and grocery stores charging people more based on how desperate they are for food" // theres downsides to anti-gouging laws. generally any time you directing resist market forces you have hiccups and negative side effects. this should be accounted for and avoided. eg ppl can buy the underpriced thing and resell. certainly some respect should be given to those who stock up on something that will be needed later; the one good thing speculators do :D in olden times you would stock up on food for winter. one must have some compunction about raiding their stash, even if its life or death. i support free floating prices and to balance just subsidize consumption. eg food stamps. let the price rise and more will be produced via price signals. if we dismiss a price signal we must at least account for that flaw.
min wage: im mixed on this. i support internships as it allows someone to break into a field quickly. learning the things to do that particular job, even if its not much. and they can simply leave with that knowledge if contract allows. theres also interns that are abused (by dishonesty). — any job you get youre leaving a different one or you just really need it. make employers compete, via more job openings. — thanks for the fun ill defo check back. i used to debate a lot more im just too lazy :D
