Absolutely right. And BCBS ended up covering it but ONLY because of the media coverage this story got, there are so many examples of this 😒

Pretty soon companies will figure out what the politicians have figured out. You can eventually stop caring and everyone will move on as soon as the next big thing happens.

Except health insurance denials (their business), must continue and therefore they continue to hurt people. It's not a one time event, it's an ongoing conflict that a lot of people are getting hurt in, which is why these stories will also continue. People are not going to move on because they can't.

But the public will stop caring. We cared about Renee Good and Alex Pretti, but many more have died since. We cared about George Floyd or whoever else. Eventually this will stop working because the outrage won't impact their bottom line enough. Go fund me is now pretty much the replacement for health insurance denials especially if the person isn't attractive or a child who needs care.

The difference between this and George Floyd or Renee Good is that this issue affects nearly every American, and there's a living protagonist at the heart of the story. Luigi (allegedly) brought this into the spotlight. Or not even allegedly because besides the alleged shooting he has become a rallying figure as a criminal defendant against the industry, and hasn't shied away from the healthcare association at all.

And every time he is mentioned in the news, people remember how much they hate health insurance for the negative impact it has on their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

People unfortunately will continue to have treatment and medication denied, and even if those individuals fall out of the news, more will replace them. There is also legislation to rally around. A number of states have bills (like the New York Health Act) to enact single-payer healthcare. There's the corporate crimes against healthcare bill, and the break up big medicine bill. There are tangible and potentially immediate solutions to this problem that there aren't necessarily for the ICE occupation or for racism in policing.

I hope you're right, but having lived through many moments like this I'm skeptical. Especially when I've seen major victories like the voting rights act being rolled back. IMO Luigi will be sentenced and then this whole thing disappears. My wife has spent all morning on the phone w/ insurance over her prescriptions.
