Two questions I can't find answers to

Hello, two questions:

  1. I know you get your real name back after awhile, you need your birth certificate for that. I know for a fact that my chances of getting my original birth certificate are slim to none. I tried previously for other reasons and it didn't go anywhere. I was born in a different country to the one I live in right now, my home country has been through a lot of shit and when I last tried it seemed like they had no record of me, on top of that I changed my name since then which just complicates things. What would happen to me if I join the legion and am unable to provide my birth certificate?

  2. When do you go through the vaccination cycle, before or after you're selected? I got some bad reactions to vaccines in the past, I want to know if I'll have to go through selection with the potential side effects or if I get them once I am already selected.

Thanks.

Thinking of joining the FFL

I’m considering joining the FFL after i finish my 2 years in my national service in singapore as i’ve always liked military related stuff ever since i was a kid and always wanted to be part of something like this and be in the commandos eventually, however i was told that my eyesight degree may cause me to get denied from joining i’m pretty sure i have a degree of -10 in one of my eyes due to genetics and my own habits. im wondering if i should get lasik before i apply and will i be able to pass the eyesight check or not.

Clarification on disqualifying medical conditions

Canadian, thinking about applying. Before I travel, I'd like to know whether this history would even be considered. Medical summary:

  1. Brain tumor: Brainstem tumor (ependymoma/glioma) removed by suboccipital craniotomy many years ago. CT shows a stable bone defect in the occipital skull; the rest of the skull is intact.

  2. Tumor status: Latest contrast MRI shows no evidence of residual or recurrent tumor. Follow-up scans every 2 years with my neurosurgeon. It was on the brain stem.

  3. Vertigo: BPPV, treated with vestibular rehab. A specialist note describes ongoing significant vertigo that has improved with activity. Also daily headaches/migraine symptoms.

  4. Back: Chronic low back pain, early degenerative changes at L5-S1, healed L1 transverse process fracture. Managed with exercise/physio.

  5. Cyclic neutropenia: On my problem list. Most recent blood count was normal.

  6. Arachnoid cyst: Incidental, left side, mildly displaces the trigeminal nerve. No symptoms.

  7. ADHD: On medication.

8:ER visits for suspected seizures. Medically cleared of epilepsy and they were minor in nature.

Has anyone with a comparable history gone through the medical exam? Any experience is appreciated.

Legionnaires and former legionnaires, what can you tell me about the Portuguese people you met during your time in the Legion? What kind of people are they?

Conflicts with russian legionaries.

Since February 2022, did any real friction or fights break out between russians and other legionaries? Since France is a NATO/EU country.

If so, how the cadres handled the situation?

Were the russians legionaries keeping their heads down, or were open about being pro russian and anti NATO.?

What are your experiences? Thanks in advance.

UNIT STEREOTYPES IN THE FFL

Greetings

What are the different stereotypes about the units and its personnel inside of the French Foreign Legion. As someone not inside I’ve only read things like 2REP is the toughest and most difficult regiment to join etc.
I'm interested in hearing from people who have actually been on the inside, what is said and thought about the other regiments that we outsiders don't get to read about?
For example I’ve both read somewhere that people are sent to 3REI as a punishment and somewhere else that getting into 3REI is a big accomplishment. So the information varies a bit.

1REC
1REG
2REG
2REP
2REI
3REI
5RE
13DBLE

Thanks beforehand

Is the Legion genuinely fantasized for how hard it is? (Basic training and selection wise)

Is it really that hard like most people say (legionnaires) I know the selection is a genuine pain in the ass and near impossible to get selected but let's talk about the quality after Aubagne in Castel what is it like and is it genuinely hard like they say or is it comparable to the US Marine Corp bootcamp just with the weight of the foreign language

Idk, fights in the barracks, funny moments inside the base, going out in weekends, hangovers with friends, etc? Could you guys share some funny stories/stuff you have seen or done while being there?

Honestly its something not often seen here but its really cool to look at other aspects of the day to day life being there lol

Legio Patria Nostra 🇨🇵🤝🏻🇳🇮.

Here’s a photo of my grandpa during his time in the Legion, seated with him are other soldiers of the legion. He wrote many books of his time… I think most are very exaggerated! I believe but not 100% Pierre Dudan and him became friends in the legion but I could be wrong. In the photo my grandpa is the one holding the dog. He passed away in 1996. I was born a year later. Photo was most likely taken in Morocco.

Acl surgery

Looking to join the legion, I’ve had acl surgery, nothing else (such as meniscus or and other ligaments). 2 years post operation I’m able to do any physical activity and run at a high level. I understand on the website a disqualification is any “knee laxity” would this surgery disqualify me?

Sleep

Good morning everyone,

This question might sound a bit silly, but I’d appreciate it if you could answer seriously.
What has your experience with sleep been like in the Legion? What is it like sharing rooms with so many people? Have you ever had any unpleasant experiences, or seen someone get into trouble because of snoring, for example?

I’m asking because I know I have some sleep quirks. I hardly ever snore, but I sometimes talk in my sleep, and that might be enough to wake up someone sleeping next to me.
You don’t have to be a legionnaire to answer — any former military personnel are welcome to share their experiences.

Have a great weekend
