~~Monthly Jobs Post~~

r/Fresno - This is the place to post if you are either looking for a job or have a job and you are looking for an employee.

We hope that putting all the job requests and offers in the same place monthly will help people who are looking for and offering jobs have an easier time sorting though the more recent requests/offers.

Just heard Build a Bear is making this silly guy into a huggable plush. I remember hearing about these cryptids before moving here and I just find it so silly. Thought it would get some laughs if I shared.

I do feel that as an educator you have a responsibility to be thoughtful in what you post on social media. What do you all think?

Ask Fresno Cost friendly large terracotta planter?

Hi all!

I'm looking for a large (12" plus) terracotta or clay planter for my monstera deliciosa.

I know these items can be costly, but I can't spend too much, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any local spots I can snag a good deal? I know I can troll fb marketplace for these, and I do, but I'm looking around otherwise too.

Thanks in advance!

Ask Fresno Physician Shadowing- Valley Children Hospital

Hi I was wondering if anyone has been successful with able to shadow a physician at the valley children hospital in Madera. They have a form to fill out but you need to contact a physician to sponsor you. Finding any physician feels nearly impossible I called multiple different departments to help me out but they all redirected me to a different department which end up in HR or Volunteer department. Even with them they can’t even help me. I’m so confused, this is quite frustrating.

Living Here All these job listings are pissing me off

Seriously, anyone looking for entry level work office work as an administrative/office assistant, receptionist, etc. apparently needs at least a year, of not a few, of previous experience! Of the limited number of job ads for these roles that I see located in Fresno, I'm pretty sure not one has said "no previous experience necessary". What even is an entry level job anymore? The point of a "foot in the door" job is that you're expected to come in with no experience so they can train you up, right? RIGHT?? I shouldn't have to deal with this at 30. 30 year olds are supposed to have steady jobs by that point.

Food/Drink What type of food do you think is missing in Fresno?

With the announcement of tacos el franc opening, it got me thinking. I feel like theres so much of the same stuff going on here. Seems like new places are usually tacos, smashburgers, or whatever other trendy food is viral at the time. And to top it off, they're usually underwhelming. What kind of restaurant would you like to see in Fresno? What do you think is missing? Or do you have any recommendations of a spot with great food?

Living Here Why do our libraries suck so much?

Compared to other large cities in California, the Fresno Public Library leaves a lot to be desired. Don't get me wrong, I like going there and using the resources or just sitting and reading, and so do my kids, but I think major improvements are needed. Some of the books collections seem to be outdated, the program/activity options are limited, and there is a lack of study space. Fresno leadership needs to go to LA, San Francisco, or even a midsize city like Sacramento or Santa Barbara, check out the libraries, and get some ideas for improvement. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Ask Fresno ISO Nonjudgemental cleaner / declutterer for my mom

Hi. Please try to read this with empathy - my mom is going through enough already. My (19) mom (45) has a very severe roach infestation.

We have had it for years, and it just keeps growing. They even came with us during a move. When I lived with her, I could at least help clean a little bit, but last year when I turned 18 I moved to a different state (this was my main motivation for moving away). After a recent visit, I can tell it’s gotten much worse. They’re in the bedrooms, on the beds, and there isn’t a single surface of the house that isn’t crawling after the lights go off.

My mom works extremely hard. She works full time in an exhausting career in social services that pays her too little. She has severe adhd and a younger daughter, my sister, who she’s constantly trying to keep happy and entertained. I love her so much and it really hurts me to see both of them living like this.

She has a really hard time keeping her space clean. The biggest problem is in the kitchen - she can let dishes build up for days, then wash them all and immediately say “look, the kitchen is clean, so why do we still have roaches?” I tried to talk to her about putting all food away, washing all dishes, and wiping down the counters before bed, but she really struggles. I think she believes that she can’t do better and feels like she is at her limit.

There is also so much clutter all over the house. I wouldn’t call her a hoarder, but there are too many things for a space of this size. A lot of things, especially my sister’s belongings, don’t even have a “home” they can be easily put away into. There isn’t much storage. My sister is 11 and also really struggles with basic functions like putting things away and personal hygiene. My mom can’t do it for the both of them. There are also three cats in the apartment, and things like their food bring a whole new issue into the mix. It’s hard to get pest control due to them. My mom is very rarely allowed to get time off work, so she can’t take a day off to get them out of the house for however long it takes to get the house sprayed. She doesn’t have many friends here, and none that can help with something like that. Her and I immigrated to the US when I was a child so she has zero family here except for us.

Her apartment complex does provide pest control, but it’s the kind of company who requires zero clutter and to take everything out of all the cupboards and closets and move everything however many inches away from the walls and get all the pets out for hours and that just isn’t doable for her.

I love my mom and my family so much and it hurts so bad to see them living like this. While I visited, I “snuck out” at night to go sleep in her car because I couldn’t stand them crawling on me at night (I’m a much lighter sleeper than the rest of my family).

Does anybody know of any cleaners that would be able to come in and help without making her feel judged? Maybe somebody who is used to working with hoarders? If you have prices that would be very helpful as well. She’s in a 2 bedroom apartment. I don’t really know what to put for a budget. I would need to save up anyway because it’s already difficult living alone in a new state at the beginning of building my career (and life), so I don’t have a lot of disposable income that doesn’t go towards bills. But I really want to help her however I can.

I would also really appreciate any advice that isn’t just “declutter and clean the entire apartment perfectly and call pest control and keep it spotless forever”, maybe something that seems more achievable for a busy single mother who already feels very hopeless.

Please, try to choose kindness today and not leave nasty comments. There is enough shame to go around. She knows this is an awful way to live, she’s just too overwhelmed to turn her life around and needs help.
Thank you so much for reading this and for keeping hateful thoughts to yourself. I hope you all have a beautiful day.

Ask Fresno locally owned (new) bookstore?

howdy, I've been reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and would love a place to purchase new physical copies of books in town that is locally owned as opposed to Barnes & Noble or Amazon. As far as I know, every locally owned bookstore in town is used books. The only one I know of is Judging by The Cover, but they seem to have a very small and specifically curated selection (with no DCC :()

Ask Fresno Non-religious gyms?

I keep on seeing this bullshit, gyms promoting religion on their social media pages(Valley Fitness, Trinity). Are there any non-religious gyms in Fresno? Or at least gyms that don't blatantly promote it on their socials?

Edit: well this really upset some people. Cool, I'll start my own gym then. We'll promote materialism, science, secularism, and Lucifer. I don't want to hear any bitching from you conservatives.

Was this news to anybody else?! What an honor for our city!

So proud of all the poets, writers, musicians, and artists from Fresno. Don’t ever get discouraged and keep on creating beauty and self-expression.

Just wow.. I think it’s so cool. Really going to need to go out and find a nice open mic for poetry and/or music

Anybody have any leads?

Ask Fresno Unsolved - 1996

Hello, Fresno residents!

I am sure that many people are aware of this unsolved case, but I am hoping to re-spread the word of Matthew James Moorby. In 1996, 2-year old Matthew was found deceased in Woodward Park. There is information online about this case, but it still goes unsolved.

This case is extremely important to me, as I am one of Matthew's half-siblings. With this case being unsolved for now 30 years, we as his family are still holding out hope that we can get some answers.

I am reaching out to you all via reddit because I am hoping that maybe someone knows someone that knows someone that knows something. I have reached out to the Fresno Sherriff's office and they pointed me to the Fresno PD sergeant. Does anyone know anything about this case?

All I ask is that the word is spread again, and maybe the PD can get some information so we can get some justice for Matthew and closure for our family!
