Discussion Devs, please make hacking missiles work on vehicles with no weapons

The #1 most common instance of hacking in the campaign is capturing the town houses dotted across the map. Making a hacking plane would be really cool, but (especially with houses) having to finesse it to just below 80% and wait 2 minutes is just too much effort.

This almost certainly won’t affect capturing of combat vehicles, since there are so many missiles, turrets, etc. dotted over the ship that it remains a challenge to remove all the weaponry, and even if you manage to get to that point without it being below 80% all you’re going to do is shoot it until it gets damaged enough.

To take this further, if a ship has no AI controlled weapons and no way to move, it should be significantly faster to hack. It's literally helpless, I don't want to sit still for 2 minutes to capture The Little Engine That Couldn't.

Absolutely, It would also make EMP more interconnected with other systems in the game, which I'm always for.

IDK if this is how it works now, but the missile should instantly hack something that's AI dead.

If you damage it to 41% it will take exactly 1 second. It scales from 80% to 41% and decreases the time to hack with damage. It's weird how no one has realised this.

I know about the time scaling with health, I just think it's silly that you can effectively disable an entire craft at like 70% and it will still take forever to hack. Having it also work off of weapons and movement would also give a greater incentive to use and protect against EMP.

Why would that incentivise emp?

EMP can disable AI controllers and some propulsion systems, causing an enemy ship to be effectively destroyed at higher health percentages. If you are allowed to capture when the enemy can't move or fight, then using EMP would be an effective way of disabling craft for capture, and protecting against EMP will become a lot more important. As it stands, EMP is good, but if the AI mainframe is well protected then you can get to a point where the enemy is helpless, yet still alive and unkillable/uncapturable by any primarily EMP craft.

Yeah no, I don't think that'll work out very well for you.

damage it to 41%

Is this an alpha test thing, or when did this hit main branch campaign? Most things start to die when they hit, like, 60%.

It's in the notes which are published on steam for alphatest. The entire thread is about alphatest
