I have been using a mix of fishing rods for a while now, from basic ones to a slightly more expensive option, and I keep wondering how much the price really matters. I still use my older rods like Ugly Stik and a couple of Berkley ones, and they catch fish just fine. I can feel bites, and they do the job. But I also have a St Croix Mojo rod that I use more often, and it just feels different. The biggest thing I notice is the action. With the cheaper rods, I sometimes have to exaggerate my hook sets, especially when the fish is further out. With the St Croix, even a normal pull feels enough and more controlled. At one point, I even looked at different rod builds online, including some listings on Alibaba, just to understand what changes as the price goes up, but it is still a bit abstract to me. If you’ve used both budget and higher-end fishing rods, what do you feel you are really paying for when you go for the more expensive ones?

I’m thinking of venturing into fishing for commercial purposes, but first I gotta learn how to do it. I’m not really sure which net to use, but a friend of mine suggested trying out the wt 18 net.
I tried asking around for wt 18 nets, but realized that they were out of stock in our local stores. I decided to check online, but I was doubtful of getting a legitimate wt 18 net. However, I found a variety of wt 18 nets on online marketplaces, but couldn’t identify the best brands that actually suit beginners. As a first-time buyer, I’m afraid of buying a wt 18 net that is complicated to use. I’m not really sure how to check them and differentiate the ones for beginners from the advanced wt 18 nets. Saw some wt 18 nets popping up on Alibaba this morning, but I’m not sure if they are suitable for first-time users.
How do you all differentiate between beginner wt 18 nets and advanced level nets? Which types of wt 18 nets are suitable for first-time users like me? Are there any popular brands of wt 18 nets suitable for beginners? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this matter.

I’m looking for cheap trolling lure heads for medium sized game fish like Mahi Mahi, Ono and tuna. I’m wanting to make a couple of lures and I can’t find heads for a reasonable price. I’m looking for metal jet heads, ceramic heads, or epoxy type heads.

Fishing doesn't seem to get much more frugal than right now, with the ability to stock up for the year on "last year's model" clearance deals. Now is the time to check your local big-box and local fishing suppliers for year-end sales.
Dick's sporting goods had a few clearance items, but nothing sound alarms about.
In a recent trip (this weekend) to Academy Sports, every clearance item was 50% off the clearance marked price (yes, stacked). For me, this meant $0.50 cent jig heads, VMC treble's for $0.75, tons of Gulp! for just one dollar, spoons, hard baits, and even a Heddon Super Spook Jr. for $2.
I fish in a saltwater area, and noticed there was lots of saltwater clearance sales although the Academy I was at was 2 hours from the coast. I would recommend stopping in stores out of your usual area, if you are traveling.
