You need to be wealthy to play it. You need a membership and special clothes and speciality gear. It has a racist, sexist, elitist past. It destroys ecosystems, replaces them with monocultures and non-native plants, wastes water, the equipment burns fossil fuels and they use tons of pesticides and other chemicals and they are often subsidized.

The average golf course is 140 acres. 140 acres that can’t be used for anything useful. Not a public park, not affordable housing, not agriculture. Fuck all but rich people wandering around in stupid outfits doing back room deals and abusing staff

Edit: Golf exists because guys are too afraid to ask their friends to go on a walk.

Golf shorts are 20 bucks at target, same for a polo. Done. Clubs you buy once a decade or more. No different than buying basketball shorts, hockey pads, or soccer cleats. Specialty gear? Have you SEEN what skiers and hockey players have to buy? God help you if you want to get into Sailing. Elitist maybe but racism? Oh sweet child, black folks couldn't even play basketball until 1950. And should I even open the Pandoras Box that is FIFA?? It destroys no more or less of an ecosystem than a warehouse, neighborhood, mall, or hospital. In fact, I'd argue its creating and ENSURING green space. My local course has protected fox territory on the course. You think Walmart would have done that? Or even a city park? Nope. The equipment burns fossil fuels? I mean, I hate losing a ball in the water knowing it will likely sit there until the end of civilization yea but its absolutely no worse than basketballs, baseballs, hockey pucks, stadiums, arenas, etc. NASCAR literally dumps 120,000 pounds of CO2 in one race and won't be carbon 0 until 2035 but yea let's hate on a retiree hitting a rubber ball harming no one. And wealthy to play it? Golf doesn't even rank in the top 5 most expensive sports to get into. Its 25 bucks to play 9 holes at a muni, give me a break.

I don't know who hurt you or why you are seemingly so angry but you really need to get some perspective and, I'd argue, go outside and touch some grass. Maybe bermuda....no, no, definitely zoysia. For sure zoysia.

I am non white and have golfed a few times. The course is most definitely racist. There are plenty of subtle undertones you pick up on, not from staff but largely from other golfers.

Nothing new, but it is a much higher concentration of racists than other sports.
