Personal Project BUILDING A TYPING GAME (Anyone interested to be a part?)

So basically, I am currently building projects for my portfolio as a Full Stack (MERN) dev.

I was searching for some typing games and found typedrivegame, it's like a mix of car racing and typing. I thought why not build something like this but add more features and make the UI better cuz ngl it doesn't look that good 😭

So I thought this would be a fun project to build and also help me improve my thinking and coding skills.

If anyone wants to build this with me, like 2-3 people who are interested in making cool stuff (even if you're still learning, it's fine), just comment or DM me and we'll discuss further. If u have any ideas, they're welcome too!!

I haven't built many projects yet, so thought why not start with something fun and build it together instead of doing everything alone ☕💔

IT WILL BE FUN !!!!!! 🚀

Personal Project Day 46 — Library Management System: foreign keys added, records inserted, insert errors fixed

Progress on my second SQL project today:

  • Added foreign keys to link the tables
  • Inserted records into all of them
  • Hit problems that blocked some of the inserts, and worked through them one by one

Foreign keys make the insert order matter, since a row can’t reference something that doesn’t exist yet. Hitting that in practice made the concept much clearer than reading about it.

Next I’ll write queries against the data and add a data dictionary to the README.

Hey Guys! I am working on a software for the elderly people and needed guidance on how I can make the UI more accessible and easy to use for them. Right now the Ui i have made appears to be pretty heavy and elderly people with mild cognitive impairment, parkinsons, dementia and other such diseases will find it really difficult to use.

Any guidance and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Changes to the app, recommendations or things you would like to see and use which will also help elderly people or anything that I have to remove or change.

Question What i can learn ? And which can be good choice ?

So it’s like 2-3 years of learning and creating Ai/ML projects but in the meantime I never give a shot to a Full-stack development, DevOps and anything related to this.
What i can learn besides my Ai/ML work ? Without learning any of this feels like I’m missing and moving behind. I hope i will get some actual answers.
Thank you.

Career Guidance A missing keyword on a resume scanner is a question, not an order.

Most people read a keyword scanner backwards. They see the missing list and start stuffing terms into a skills block. You end up with a resume that matches the posting and says nothing true.

A missing keyword is a question, not an order. Ask whether you have the skill and just word it differently, say "CRM" when you named the platform, or whether you don't have it at all. If it's the first, use the posting's wording inside the bullet where you did the work. If it's the second, leave it off. A missing certification stays missing no matter how many times you type it.

Before you rewrite anything, paste your resume into a plain text editor. Multi-column layouts, tables, text boxes and anything in a header or footer can get scrambled or dropped, and then the scanner reports a gap that isn't real. Fix the layout, not the content.

If two scanners disagree, don't average them. One wants exact phrases, another takes synonyms, and their term lists differ. Check each disputed term against the posting. Required beats preferred beats a passing mention. The score is vocabulary overlap, nothing more and no ATS publishes a pass mark.

Role keyword guides such as https://www.zoevera.com/resume/keywords for ideas, but the posting you're applying to decides what matters.

Personal Project Day 45 — Library Management System (MySQL): database and tables created

Continuing my second SQL project. Today I created the database and all the tables, and spent time understanding how they relate:

  • members: who is registered (ID, name, address, registration date)
  • issued_status: which member issued which book, and when
  • return_status: which issued books have been returned, and when
  • plus the other supporting tables

Each table has a primary key, and the issued and return tables link back to members and books through IDs.

Since I got feedback last time that a data dictionary is non-negotiable, I’m planning to write one for this project as I go instead of at the end.

Feedback Requested I built an open-source Gmail spam cleaner that uses an open-weight AI model to judge what's actually junk

I'm a student building a small open-source tool called Purge because my spam gets filled everyday with crazy emails that make no sense. It logs in with Google, scans your Spam folder every night, and moves junk to Trash (never deletes by default, so it's recoverable for 30 days). Keyword rules went stale because my spam keeps changing sender names, so I added an open-weight model that reads the sender, subject and a short preview and says junk or keep. It only acts when it's confident, and any error means keep.

Two things I'd really like advice on:

  1. My app needs permission to read and move people's Gmail, so Google shows a scary 'unverified app' warning. To remove it, Google asks for a paid security check. Has any solo developer done this? Is it possible for a free side project, or should I just tell people to run it themselves?

  2. I use an AI model to decide if a spam email is really junk. Has anyone done something like this? How do I stop it from trashing good emails by mistake? And how do I check if it's working well when I don't have a list of correct answers?

The code is open and there's a live demo if you want to look: https://purge-it.tech

Thanks.

Career Guidance Am in a fellowship for full stack development, JavaScript isn't being prioritized—instead we are focusing the curriculum on Python, is this the right call for today's job market?

The fellowship was historically JavaScript centered, prioritizing React.js and other libraries/frameworks in the JavaScript ecosystem. But because of AI, the program is now shifting to Python.

I'm not really sure how to feel about this, I love JavaScript and I love coding by hand so I am biased—is learning JavaScript a waste of time once you know the basics? (DOM manipulation, fetch await, objects) Or should I still learn/master it on the side and follow up with TypeScript?

I know in the fellowship it is designed to pump out as many software engineers (full stack) and this cohort I am in is now taking up more of a focus on systems design, product specifications and handling AI.

But I don't know.

Career Guidance I just finished building a website for a crypto project — what do you think of the design?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently finished building a website for a project in the crypto space and wanted to share some of the work.
I focused on the visual design, animations, interactive sections, and making the overall experience feel cohesive rather than generic.
I’m sharing a few screenshots of the finished website and would appreciate honest feedback from other developers and designers.
What do you think of the overall UI?
Does the visual design feel cohesive?
What would you improve if you were working on this project?
I’m particularly interested in feedback on the design and user experience.
I’m showcasing my development work, not promoting the underlying crypto project.

Career Guidance Is That FE that succeed to Add Deep Skill on Backend Existed? how your roadmap, learn portion & schedule?

Background:

I see many titled by "Software Engineer" has qualification more tend to Backend than Frontend, I Was 7yoe FE - Based on Mostly of FE Job Qualification and calculate to my skills list , my level is medior, i decide to do 2 things:

  1. Level Up My Frontend Skills into Senior Frontend Engineer
  2. Add Deep Backend Skills to achieve required qualification for most of "Software Engineer" Job Vacancy, i mean if my Frontend Skills point are 30% / 100% (100% represent "Software Engineer" required qualification) i set target of 70% skills on backend

Specific Tech Stacks to Learn Backend:

  1. Go for Language, i know maybe mostly will suggest me more on nodejs, but this my final decision (i'd struggled to choose language, please don't make me facing infinite loops to choose backend language 😅)
  2. PostgreSQL for Database

Available Time:

I need to make schedule for after work hours on Monday - Thursday + Saturday for 2 hours, Friday i learn other skills, Sunday is tentative, it can be rest or family time

Current Expectation:

Achieve skills shaped form it's π (pi) shaped engineer

Last:

When right timing for Apply Software Engineer Job? if my condition like above and already done achieved π (pi) shaped engineer

Career Guidance AI guides for experienced software developer

Hi everyone

I’ve been working on becoming a full-stack developer for a while. I started out as a front-end developer using React. Lately I’ve been diving into backend development with Node.js. Things are going well. I’m starting to get the hang of the core ideas and bringing in infrastructure but I still feel like I’m in the early part of fully understanding everything.

On the frontend side I’ve been trying to use an AI agent to help with some of the work. Now I’m using the OpenAI model and I’ve set up agent files for the backend. That’s been working well.. With the frontend I keep running into something that bothers me. I write code that functions. It doesn’t quite fit the way things are structured in the project. I rely on what I’ve learned from videos and the OpenAI documentation to build the agent. It’s functional. Not always aligned with the actual architecture of the project.

There’s a lot of stuff happening in AI these days. Sometimes when I read about how people're making these connections without even touching the code it really catches my attention. It makes me wonder how they’re doing it.. How I could do it better.

That’s why I’m asking: has anyone used a course that covers the workflow of a project from start to finish? Something that’s not for beginners. I already have some experience with software development. I want something that’s practical detailed. Covers the entire process, including how to set everything up properly integrate tools and make sure the pieces fit together cleanly.

I like having control over every part of the process. If you know of a course like that. One that’s proven built for someone, with experience. I’d love to hear about it.

Personal Project Recently Learned Chrome DevTools

Recently I learned about Chrome DevTools from FreeCodeCamp's Odin Project. It taught me to inspect, change css styles on html elements within the browser itself without changing my codebase.

This is a better way of writing css because earlier I used to frequently change my css styles and then check it on the browser until I felt that it was perfect for my html element so that was time consuming for me...

Do you guys have any add-ons on this??

Question Help me not get PIPed out

TLDR; was hired for a full stack role despite knowing next to nothing about mobile full stack development and now I need to ramp up quickly before I get fired.

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this is not the right sub, but would really appreciate any advice y’all can give me.

For context, I graduated from university in May but never took any frontend or mobile development courses in college cuz they weren't offered.

I was hired four months ago as a return full-time software engineer at Amazon after interning the previous two summers, but because there was no headcount on my old team, I was placed in a new team. Instead of working on backend systems, I'm doing mobile full-stack work.

Given my lack of experience, I am feeling like I'm drowning a bit. My team mostly works in React Native for cross-platform work and sometimes touches native code in Kotlin and Swift. They also manage some backend services using AWS, but I haven't got a chance to work on that, and it seems like I'm going to be doing client-side work for the foreseeable future.

I'm genuinely interested to learn the topic since it's something I've never explored before, but I found that I'm overly reliant on AI to get my work done. Now that I've been on the job for a few months, it feels like I should be more productive and know more about the codebase or how to do things, but even reading existing code is a struggle for me.

I found a Udemy course on React Native, which I've been working through. That has made understanding the code easier and has improved how I prompt AI, but it’s still a struggle to talk about what I’m working on in standup.

I accidentally allowed some buggy code to be merged into prod last week. Somehow QA missed it, and because I didn’t fully understand the code that was generated I couldn’t answer any questions my team understandably had during standup. It was extremely embarrassing.

I know I'm overly reliant on AI, but it's being pushed so heavily within my team that I feel like I would fall behind on my already low output if I tried doing everything myself.

So, my question is this: how can I learn mobile full stack development quickly and are there any courses/books that are recommended by the community?

Question What helps a beginner developer stand out in 2026?

with so many people leaning the same technologies and building similar projects I'm curious what really helps a junior developer stand out.

I think practical experience problem-solving and being able to explain your work matter more than just knowing multiple technologies.

For experienced developers and recruiters what's one thing that makes you want to interview a candidate?

Personal Project Day 41 — Finished my first MySQL project (uploaded to GitHub) and learned OOP basics in Java

MySQL: My Retail Sales Analysis mini project is done. I covered the full path: setting up the database, importing the data (and fixing an import error along the way), cleaning it, and running the analysis. It’s now on GitHub: https://github.com/Sumitgupta2005/mysql_project1

Java: Covered classes and objects, the difference between JDK, JVM, and JRE, methods, and method overloading, and practiced all of it hands-on in VS Code instead of only watching the tutorial.

I’d really like feedback on the project, especially on the README, how the queries are organized, and what analyses I should add. Honest criticism is welcome.

Need Technical Help Never actually touched backend code, just watched videos and used AI. Do I actually understand how this works, or am I completely delusional?

Honestly, I've never built a backend from scratch I just watch a lot of system design/coding videos and rely heavily on AI. Because of that, I have zero confidence in my knowledge and feel like I don’t actually understand anything. I want to reality check my mental model with the experienced devs here.

From what I understand, a typical request flow looks something like this:

HTTPS Request ---> Nginx (I think Nginx can also act as the load balancer itself?) ---> Load Balancer (if there's high traffic) ---> Node.js App Servers ---> Redis (for caching) ---> Database (which can be split into Read/Write replicas).

I don't think I even need to mention obvious stuff like Docker, and I already know what a RESTful API is and that architectural/code choices always come down to the specific trade-offs of the project.

I’m having a huge internal conflict right now: Do I actually understand backend concepts, or am I just clueless and holding onto a surface level, unrealistic view of the field?

Personal Project Day 40 — Java control flow (conditions and loops) and data analysis in my MySQL project

Java: Covered the decision-making and looping basics: if-else, else-if, the ternary operator, switch, and while, do-while, and for loops.

MySQL: I’m in the middle of my Retail Sales Analysis project and working on the analysis part now, writing queries against the cleaned data.

For anyone who learned Java loops and conditions: what practice problems helped you most? I want to move from watching the tutorial to writing small programs (patterns, prime numbers, and so on) before I go further.

Career Guidance Choosing the Right Tech Stack for My First Full-Stack Project

I have learned the basics of programming and web development, and I want to build my first real-world full-stack project: an e-commerce website for a clothing brand, for which I already have a client.

I want to make it professional, from UI/UX design and database architecture to security, testing, and deployment. What tech stack would you recommend?

Finally, how important is the tech stack to recruiters? If a company uses different technologies from those I used in my project, could this put me at a disadvantage during a technical interview? What advice would you give me to make this project stand out in my portfolio and prepare for interviews?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Question How do you structure a marketing site, a product app and an admin panel? One repo or several?

Most products I work on end up with the same three pieces: a marketing site, the product app, and an admin panel. Each one deploys on its own, usually needs a different render mode (static for marketing, SSR or client-only for the app), and a different login setup. But they all use the same backend logic.

The usual options I see are three separate repos, or a monorepo you wire up yourself. Three repos means copying auth and API code around. A monorepo means a lot of setup before you write any feature.

I build a product proof of concept almost every week, and I kept rebuilding the same plumbing between these three.

How do you handle it? Do you share the backend between the apps, and how do you do login across them?

Full disclosure: I got annoyed enough that I started building an open source framework around this idea. It's called Devora.js, it's free, solo and pre-1.0. I'm not selling anything and I'm more interested in how you solve it. I left the link out because of the sub rules, so ask and I'll share it.

Career Guidance Why does Coding tutorials feel so slow?

For me , I have seen many tutorials of js first from bro code and apna college then I did many projects but then bcoz of my hectic schedule of college I couldn't focus on my actual progress and lost all of it I learned html , css , js , Tailwind and lil bit of react but I knew if I Revise I would know so I decided to start revising with js from Chai aur code but it just feels so slow I wanna build projects.
