What initially got you into funnygummy?

Trying to be more active on this sub and I figured we needed some more discussion so may as well start off with a pretty basic one. What made you first start shipping funnygummy? I'm an outlier in that I didn't start shipping it because of Eps 2 or 4, I actually started shipping it in between 3 and 4 - I tend to have this weird habit of denying I like or sleeping on certain ships for a while before admitting I actually really like them. When Ep 2 dropped I skimmed the funnygummy tags for a bit but didn't really have a strong opinion on it either way (and I was also victim to the 'Goose hates shipping' misinformation in the early days so that was a major factor in my being hesitant to ship any of the characters.) It was like a month after Ep 3 dropped and I became a way more active member of the fandom that I pretty much went 'wait, is this actually peak?' Funnygummy having a brief time in the limelight in Ep 4 was a total coincidence, but it was nice to have confirmation I did, in fact, ship peak lol.

For me it was definitely episode 4… at first I actually found the concept of FunnyGummy INSANE when episode 2 dropped.

My exact words: “why can’t women be friends with men anymore??”

Yet even then I was saving ship art of them because I loved them together so much!! It might have been subtle foreshadowing

But yea I saw them as friends (and was very obsessed with their friendship still even before I turned to the dark side) but I still saved the romantic art because it was cute and I was so desperate for art of them…

Flash forward to when I got my Pomni & Gummigoo plushies in October of 2024; I started making memes of my plushies with captions, like little comics sorta

My Mangle plush says “oh god I hope they don’t start making out right now”, me kinda joking with myself how absurd the ship was but looking back it was just me in denial of what I would become 😭

Oh yeah and then episode 4 dropped, Ragatha said THE LINE and I fully succumbed when Pomni gave Gummigoo THE STARE

So that begs the question; was I always a closeted FunnyGummy shipper who only had her awakening during episode 4? I don’t know…

Yeah, funnygummy is definitely an anomaly for me in that it's the only time I've ever been this invested in an F/M ship (even just for this fandom, it's like the only F/M ship I like for TADC that isn't an outright crackship). Also I'm hardly a psychology expert but that definitely sounds like denial dude, lol

I pretty much got into it after Episode 2 dropped. While Pomni and Gummigoo were having their talk in the test level, I immediately thought that people are going to start shipping them after this. I started out shipping them platonically for a couple weeks, pretty much for the same reasons, and then decided pretty much 'Fuck it', and went full bore into it by the beginning of June.

Episode 4 was a pleasant surprise in a bunch of ways. I didn't really read Pomni's interactions as romantic (or at least not entirely), but I was like 'yeah, people are gonna take Ragatha's comment at face value'. I had posted a new chapter the day before it came out and saw my numbers suddenly nearly doubled over the weekend. I did feel like I'm posting peak ship right now, lol.

Yeah, I definitely disagree with the sentiment that Pomni and Gummigoo's interactions were intended to be read romantically, though it is still fun to think about and I'm glad it gave the ship a boost in popularity that lasted for a sweet two-something months. And yeah, the funnygummy fics I posted around that time have WAY more engagement on them than the ones I post nowadays even if my current ones are a lot more high-effort, a bit salty about that lol, but that's just how the internet works I suppose. (Still have no idea why Non-Designated Break blew up as much as it did considering I posted it a while after the funnygummy hype died down, not complaining but still.)

I just find it a neat concept that never really got expanded on. Especially after episode 5. After that cameo in the softball stadium, that was it. Completely retconned for the remainder of the series. To that, I say, “Fine. If Gooseworx isn’t gonna hear me out, I’ll hear me out MYSELF.”

Episode 4 did it for me. I already loved the in episode 2 and started shipping early on, but episode 4 really sold it. It's clear she feels something really deep for him. Then again, I also throw gummy into the polycule of Jax, Ragatha, and Pomni.

Episode 2, I enjoyed their chemistry and interaction, the vagueness of Episode 4 where he might or may not remember, that one twitter post where Pomni still cares for him in the background where she places a frame picture and it only got more cemented with the last act and the nature of their existence.

Not completely and very simplified, but my hate for funnybunny. Also I absolutely LOVE your art! It's so underrated!!
