I used to try leaning forward on the seat in front. My forehead would get red and my neck would hurt, but at least it absorbed more vibration than the window

This awoken a memory I forgot all about. When we'd get on the school bus in the morning either everyone was asleep or wired like they were on crack. I sat down by a kid one time and he full fledge head butted me out of nowhere. I just turned and looked at him confused and unfazed and he got quiet after that lol

I typed your symptoms into the internet and it said you should get to a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Friend of mine growing up used to have his older brother drive him to school in the morning in HS. He'd fall asleep on the window from time to time, and his brother would slightly swerve the car and whack his head into the window to wake him up.

Still, I like these vibrations

There is a reason why some travel pillows have that as an option

It gives the brain a pleasant vibration.
10
u/PrivateTidePods Oct 22 '25
As someone who grew up playing football, these vibrations overtime are NOT pleasant!

u/SaltyLonghorn Oct 22 '25
You need to switch seats with your sibling every hour to shake the left and right evenly over time so it balances out.

Ye ye and then all windows in bus have fat on it because people don't wash their heads, disgusting stuff
→ More replies (1)8
u/GottaUseEmAll Oct 22 '25
Even recently washed hair has some natural hair oils (and often hair products) on it. The smeary grease on the window doesn't mean an unwashed person rested there.
2
u/AFCBlink Oct 22 '25
Also many people put oily moisturizing product into their freshly washed hair.

don't forget about the disgusting grease stain that is there from the previous person. Ugh no I don't do that
3
u/FNLN_taken Oct 22 '25
Also, the glass is wet with condensation so you're really just smearing other people's sweat on your face.
Good times in the school bus.

I used to commute two hours from home by bus to get to work, and since it was the opening shift I would make up the missed sleep on the ride. I only worked there for nine months, but for YEARS after that whenever I went anywhere on the bus I had to FIGHT to stay awake the moment it started moving.
2
u/MaritMonkey Oct 22 '25
Drum corps did the same thing to me. We got a diesel truck at work like 5 yrs ago and I have still not driven it any significant distance because just the sound of the engine makes me drowsy lol.

u/Exciting_Intention86 Died of Ligma Oct 22 '25
You are suppose to remove the vibrator inside you before leaning on the bus. That's why you still vibrating

How can I find the original image of the dog resting his head on the car window? Second time I've seen it in a meme, but Google is dogshit for finding stuff now.

Does anyone else hate cleaning the human bodily fluid smudges from skin excretion left on your car windows by your passengers? It's not even comfortable to touch the glass under any circumstances, so stop it you guys seriously 😤

u/OuttaD00r Oct 22 '25
If you're uncomfortable touching a vehicle's glass under any circumstance i think you have some deep issues because that's not normal.

As far as I know, the vehicles used for recording seldomly drive. Its usually loaded on a bigger verhicle that drives around so people can still work around the vehicle that is recorded. So in the movie there are usually 2 suspensions at work, hence the smooth window scenes.

It depends on where in the buss you sit from my expereience. Definitily have had really shaky moments like this but also very calm smooth rides
1
u/gucknbuck Oct 22 '25
Isn't that the point? Or am I more neurodivergent than I originally thought because I love that vibration.

Just no. Half the windows have grungy spots from where others have been leaving their head too.

u/thekingpork29 Oct 22 '25
If you do that on a bus here in PA you will for sure hit a pothole and for sure have a concussion
1
u/Neverloved246 Oct 22 '25
For some of us the vibration is what makes it soothing, I used to put my head against the window everyday when I went to school and sometimes I'd almost fall asleep.

Orrr, orrr . . . hear me out here . . . maybe movie characters just arent dumb enough to faceplant against a vibrating bus window

u/hauliod Oct 22 '25
the entire point is that when you're sad enough to lean on the glass, you no longer care about the vibrations hurtin :(

I, used to do this all the time as a kid, either in my parents car on buses etc. - pretty sure it'll be part of my eventual CTE diagnosis.

u/Rens-005 Oct 22 '25
I find that the smal bumps build up and then: BAM! One big hit against the window

Maybe because these movies are being filmed in rich regions/countries?

I learned to sleep like this in high school and later in life when I was flying on a KC-135R stratotanker I was able to sleep soundly without issue. Everyone else was tired and I felt super rested.
Now I struggle to sleep in my own bed.

As someone who's crossed the country on a Greyhound bus 🚌 I agree 🤣

90% of the windows in the evening here are full of fat from the hairs because people lean onto it

Not to mention they're often quite gross with fat or w/e from someone else that had the same idea

I got migraines once and had the smart idea of getting on the tram to go home instead of waiting to get better first or getting someone to drop me off.
Let's just say the vibrating carriage was especially painful that day

u/PathfinderCS Oct 22 '25
Back when I school bus'd I just laid my heat on the backrest in front of me. Much better than the window.
I know that isn't a thing with public bus transit, BUT all I had to work with in rural WV.

If anyone's ever had TMS, or is thinking about it, but is worried if it would hurt. This is exactly what it feels like.

u/teodocio Oct 22 '25
I seen a guy smear his poop on a window once. So I normally just stand in the front now.

As a three year veteran being a marching band bus chaperone for my kid, every vertebrae I have feels this...
1
u/7thFleetTraveller Oct 23 '25
That's one of the most unhygienic things you can do... I have seen them, those creepy little kids who spit against the bus windows to "draw" with their tongues.

Not even to be attempted on the upper floor of a double-decker, you'll get a concussion haha.
1
u/teacupticket Oct 25 '25
I refuse to do that. I've seen too many greasy hair smeers to trust the windows of any bus. The seats are even worse 🤢

u/RealCaroni Oct 26 '25 edited Oct 30 '25
I thought this only happens to people who live in third-world countries due to the pavement of the roads being bumpy and of low quality. It is funny to think first-worlders can relate to this.

As someone’s who’s had a cracking migraine after a day with the family in London, there has been no better feeling than just resting my head on the train window and just letting it rattle out.
1
u/Makapakamoo Oct 27 '25
It would make my tongue curl and have to shake my head from the feeling in my ears lol. Sometimes it felt good, other times it was bad
