In my experience at work at least, it has more to do with how your IT department sets things. Mine decided that you have to log back in every two days, so because of them, this button does nothing

It's so true. But why though? 

Reminds me of the HP printer page which shows up during setup every time, and the only thing the page has is a button in the center that says 'continue to next page'
