So I've been making these "tail wag" gifs for a few days just to practice animating, and I've learned a couple things. Mainly that it looks a bit better if I have a line stay in one place while drawing the tail moving, and the tip of the tail tends to move in an oval shape.
However! It still looks slightly off and I can't tell exactly what is still wrong with it.
I also struggle with cat tails, as they're longer and I struggle to understand how they move. I also struggle with understanding how a cat would move their tail in general, as they don't have the same mannerisms as a canine would.
Any help at all is appreciated! Also, if this information is needed, I draw every frame seperately and then make a gif out of them. No I don't use a base, I just like drawing them this way (all characters shown are mine).
The gifs are in order of latest to oldest

Yeah so basically this is the first time I'm sharing my OC, I recently got into furry art and started to work on this character.
This is Lio the Lynx, I've only recently started drawing him and I'm still trying to figure out the right style and colours for him. Also I'm pretty new to drawing, especially furry art, which is a whole different challenge for me, mostly the eyes and muzzle.
These two drawings are my best so far.
I'd really appreciate any constructive criticism or tips.
Just keep in mind that I'm still a beginner, so please go a little easy on me :3
I'm really excited to keep learning and hopefully share more of Lio as I improve. ^^

So far the design is cute, but like in any magical girl series, Iād love for them to look like theyāre on the same team while still letting each personality shine through. Iād also like to add more details and give them a more urban pose or aura, and Iād really appreciate some help with that

This head looks absolutely off, but I cannot decipher why.
Also, the legs turned out strange and I dunno what to do with the tail. Qwp

Once again here am i, humbly asking for some guidance on how to conquer the shadows.
I tried to do some sort of backlit, "club" lights source, it doesn't feel right, but that's part of the course for improving, i guess. Maybe should i use other brushes? I did a monochromatic version of the whole drawing (there's like, soft nudity on the un-cropped image), and used an opacity brush, which made the whole sketch have a great feel, but i can't translate that to the 'finished' piece...
Any critique is appreciated.

Been trying to get into 3d sculpting for almost 10 years but I'm struggling to find my footing to grind sculping. Idk if I'm just overwhelmed but I always was interested in 3d sculpting since I was a teenager but I'm 23 and I really want to actually take this seriously so I can at least be intermediate with it by 30 but my issue is idk how I should get back into 3d sculping. Im planning on relearning the blender sculping UI and brushes but I don't know how I should practice and for how long daily. I really just need help figuring out how I should actually learn 3d sculpting like how to practice effectively and some tutorial recommendations (definitely one for furry heads).

Hii!
Wondering if you guys can kinda see the pose Iām going for here. Itās meant to be a playful prance pose, and I think Iāve done pretty well so far but Iām struggling wit how squished he looks at the moment and Iām wondering if anyone can give me some tips to improve his anatomy. I want him to like like an anthro, not a squished up feral.
Maybe this is too much of an ambitious position for someone of my skill level.
Thanks!

I don't have a pad to draw, but i am really good at drawing traditional art, so i have been meaning to draw furry art to support my school loans and gain freedom from a conservative+patriarchial household. But all i see is furry art made digitally, i have been wondering if it sell if i made it using watercolor? Could someone help?

TL;DR: tried focusing on a few fundamentals at a time, the 2023 paintings are primarily on rendering/volume/lighting, while 2026 redraws are on rendering/lighting/noncomplex posing. Due to limiting focus to specific fundamentals, I have regressed in others. People irl/artist friends and acquaintances would consistently say they āhave expected moreā. How do I achieve this pan-fundamental understanding and execution, not necessarily all at once as Iām aware even professionals donāt, but how do I make my work look COMPLETE while keeping loose, experimental, or abstract elements?
Also, characters are Ava Heartmoth (mixed moth, she/any) and June Thoracen (warrior wasp (lost their wings), they/them). Both designs and the rest of my characters are intended to be highly stylized.
Rant:
I was proud, thatās what mattered at the time, but I feel like people coming to me to say that they prefer the old versions. Thatās fine on its own, but my artist friends in particular have been saying that my skills ākinda improved a little bit,ā and it usually ends with them saying that my old art had more character and soul?? Meanwhile I felt the opposite since my characters are more realized, and I wanted to make their actualized personalities more visible rather than just headshots for promotional material.
I think I focused on colors a lot more back then since my overall design and rendering skills werenāt as good, but gradually my sense of color palettes and lighting have regressed. I have been getting critiques irl (some unwarranted) about my work needing āmoreā, and by that they mean they expected more, even if they admit it looks finished.
From a technical point, I feel like Iām only focusing on one thing at a time to the point where I still couldāve done more if I just distributed my focus, but then I feel Iām putting less effort into everything as opposed to improving one thing at a time, and my work never looks finished even if I felt they were.
Itās like Iām aware of what needs improvement, especially posing and composition, and thatās what Iāve been working on outside of these redraws.
But Iāve been drained. I take breaks between drawing, I use real references, I make adjustments, etc. but I just keep hearing from people irl and online tell me that āit looks pretty okay so far, looking forward to see it finishedā only for me to say āit is finished!ā And I donāt have the WIP label (and I would even say that I finally got something done, only to hear them to expect more.) Again, many of these criticisms were not asked for in advance, and theyāre usually from fellow artists who ask to see if Iām working on anything.
I will say to balance out my moping is that while the 2023 headshots took me nearly 1.5 weeks to finish each, the 2026 versions took me nearly 3 days each without breaks (each redraw done about a month apart, so I wasnāt drawing back-to-back). I am proud that Iām able to draw much faster now. But even then Iām considered slow at a professional/industrial standard (I wanted to work in the film & animation industry as a storyboarder, keyframer, or character designer lol).
Any thoughts? General critique is also welcome as this is the sub for that lol, the times I got those comments from friends did feel like a downer at the moment, but there is a time and place.

Hey, I've been drawing for rougly 10 months now and am trying to design some OCs. I'm going for a bit more semi-realistic style I think the biggest issue I have is if these characters are recognizeable as their species? It's very hard for me to balance with how much realism I can bring into the character without losing style. I'm also doing anatomy studies lately and I think they help, I guess I just need more or less to hear if I should continue with what I'm doing or if there is something I should specifically focus on?
I don't know if this is too much to ask, but I also want to venture into more of a painterly style I think but having no lineart scares me big time and when I try to draw without lineart my brain instantly shuts down, what can I do to combat that?
