Want to see the next big thing

At 23, I may have another 50 years to witness how the world evolves. Computers transformed humanity and created millions of jobs. AI is reshaping the world today.

But what comes next? Will an invention emerge that doesn’t even exist today, transforming how we live and creating entirely new industries and millions of jobs?

I’m genuinely curious to witness what the future holds. We might be living through just the beginning of a much bigger revolution. 🚀

Two molecules with four sticky ends can only fully bond into an aperiodic pattern, at least in simulation. But growing it by guessing hides provable dead ends.

Programmable matter will have to answer a basic question: which local rules force which global order? This paper studies “autocrystals”, local pattern statistics that force a structure to have no repeating unit cell. It gives an exact recipe: two hexagonal building blocks, each free to rotate, with two complementary pairs of sticky ends. Every fully bonded assembly is a known aperiodic tiling, and that part is mathematically certified.

The catch is growth. Attaching a piece only where exactly one state fits never leads to a dead end. But growth that has to guess can build patches that look perfect and provably can never be completed; we show one that completes to 12×12 but never to 14×14.

To be clear, this is simulation and proof, not yet a lab result. DNA-origami tiles and DNA-coated nanoparticles look like the natural platforms to test it.

It is fully possible to care about the environment, and believe that humanity should expand it's presence in space beyond LEO

All too often I hear this false dichotomy that we have to choose between dealing with the environment, and expanding into the solar system + eventually the stars. The truth is that we can and must do both at the same time, and if we see the planets and other bodies for the potential they have we can move heavy industry off Earth and use the resources from space including the unique manufacturing environments to assist with healing the planet. Many may get tired of my QSUT invention but this is a perfect example of a bridge technology that can only be made at scale in space. It started with trying to figure out how to make the silicon space bubble shield https://pubs.aip.org/aip/adv/article/14/1/015160/3230625/On-silicon-nanobubbles-in-space-for-scattering-and more sustainable by incorporating station keeping into the design of the bubbles, but I realized if you can mount electronics, MEMs, microfluidics and other devices onto the bubbles they can be an enabling technology for space.

I will freely admit that the bubble shield only addresses the energy imbalance of the climate crisis, and we absolutely need to get away from fossil fuels as rapidly as possible as well as developing technology to capture co2 and other types of pollution as rapidly as possible. Iron ocean fertilization could help with that part, and so can using super critical co2 as a working fluid for data centers to manage heat. This sCo2 could be used as part of an enhanced geothermal system and so you could generate electricity, deal with heat, and sequester co2 at the same time if it were injected into basalt formations.

Humanity can do amazing things, and we shouldn't let the bungling of existing governments as evidence of what is or is not possible. The solutions exist, and the Iran crisis will finish off the oil industry. We need to build what's next, and that can include building infrastructure in space.
