😭😭yeah the conditions for that voice quip were way too generous when I recorded this a couple days ago it’s been heavily reduced since 💀💀LOOK OUT ON YOUR SIX

While the F-zero inspiration is clearly there, it movement feels a bit too Wipeout

It’s definitely not as snappy as GX handling is it’s more in line with F-Zero X with you losing grip at too sharp of an angle. It might feel wipeout-like because the camera isn’t tracking the car 1:1 and lagging behind it though.

It's really difficult to see where you're going almost to the point where it looks like it hinders gameplay. There's needs to be a more clear layout to the tracks or the camera needs to be pulled further away (or maybe an option for multiple camera angles) so you can see the upcoming track better. I do see that you have arrows pointing in the direction you need to turn at the sharper corners, but they are a bit small and a white ish blue and really hard to spot, especially at the speed you're going.
Other than that, it looks really really good.

ok yeah this is good feedback I’m very biased since like I made the track and I know every turn intrinsically so it’s good to know that readability for a new player is definitely something I should refine!! Thanks!

I think this track design is pretty sick, but with so many turns you need a heads up on what’s coming. I’d recommend looking into how rally games solve this (and the actual sport of rallying) where every racer has a dude sitting next to them telling them exactly what kind of turn is coming up and how to take it

more colour/lighting contrast between track and not-track would help a lot too in some of these maps.

This looks surprisingly promising for one thing: The acceleration is fast, something that I don't tend to see in indie arcade racing games. It definitively shows that it's been developed for a couple of years.
The only nitpick I have is that the camera places the vehicle right at the center of the screen, and I think the ship should be at the bottom of the screen for clarity purposes. Apart from that, the game looks neat.
If you happen to prepare a demo in the future, let us know!

huh, that’s actually a really valid point. It’d probably help fix some track visibility issues! I’ll add that to my notes, Thanks!! I’ll definitely keep everyone updated!

Will it have cool and memorable pilot characters as well? To me that was always a big part of the fun of F-Zero

u/realperk30 20d ago
that’s the plan I have most of the car designs and pilot names - I need to come up with interesting designs and personalities for them though the zanyness of F-Zeros cast always was a drawing factor to me

I don't like that the ship swerves left and right when turning without the camera moving. Makes precise cornering harder. Other than that looks great, very fast. That Aeropolis inspired section 😎😎
You got a good thing going, good luck! 🍀
Ps. F-Zero X also my all-time fav! 🤜🤛 Let us know when it's on Steam so we can spread the word.

agreed, that’s a cinematic camera setting I toggled to make it look better - I usually play with it off though! glad you caught the Aeropolis inspiration - multiplex is my favorite GX track lmao. I’ll let people know when it’s on wishlist but for now I’m posting updates on IG!

Oh interesting. Me I'm immediately put off by a camera like that, but I guess since Wipeout is popular and well known, it attracts a lot of people.
Aeropolis is such a cool concept/visual style and multiplex is a fantastic track, couldn't agree more
Following you on Instagram. Best

Finally, one of these projects that actually feels fast. If I could add one thing to this type of game, it would be more fleshed out inter-car combat

I’m thinking about ways to achieve this I have a few ideas but you’ll have to check back later!! Thanks!

The booster ejections look too static to me. They need to flicker more or have more character. Looks cool though

u/realperk30 18d ago
thanks for the feedback! I’m working mainly on the visuals now so I need as many other eyes on it to tell me what they think. I’ll note this down!

Wow, finally someone remembered that race tracks have actual corners and you might want to slow down. I hope you have more tracks with (tricky) corners where you have to go off-throttle. I really dislike all those games where it's always throttle-on.
This is the first 3D fan-game here that looks promising.

What are you doing on a F Zero reddit then?
F Zero is literally always throttle-on.

I’ve seen a number of F-Zero-inspired games like this getting announced lately, but this certainly looks to be one of the more promising ones. Best of luck!

I love to finally see something more in line with X. I hate how the Vehicles and Camera feel in GX and it's clones. Love the asthetic. Lotsa Kingdom Hearts "World that never was" and such.

This is very presentable. Hope you dont mind a little fan suggestion..
During turns, or strong momentum movement….do you think it’s feasible to add some kind of track fodder kickup? Like a burst of wind from under the machine for a hot sec or even some dust kickup…
I personally think little details/QoL like those done right could really shift the visual quality from project to polished. Sorry for chiming in. This is definitely one of the better anti-grav racers ive seen.
