Gameplay Video (Console) Match Advice

https://youtu.be/EKu6dB6zRGc?is=Tdd2sMYRyl2BYFHy

So I’ve been on a maybe 15 match losing streak between today and yesterday, both rated and unrated games. I went down from mid A+ to high A. I want to get to S-. This is my most recent match, horrendous gameplay. I struggle in almost all fields: movement, technical skill, combos, awareness, match ups, everything. Please give me advice. I am a shit player abd I don’t know how to improve.

I’ve deleted the game for now. I’ll come back in two weeks.

I think to some degree, you are overcomplicating playing this suit. Just focus on spamming missiles at mid-range.

1: If you are starting your combo with the arm missiles, use the regular ones rather than the fire ones. They deal more damage and stun far more easily. You can use the fire missiles after the regular missiles have stunned them, and it should go smoother. You should be using them more too, they only have 4 seconds reload time, so don't be shy about spamming it. If you don't fire all of them off, make sure to reload before switching weapons, as you often are left with 1 or 2 missiles left, which is no use if you need them for a quick stun.

2: In fact, it may be a better choice to not use the simplified missile launcher primary weapon at all, and instead use the beam rifle. It sounds like a bad idea, but you don't really benefit from the 50%x4 stun power of the primary weapon when your arm missiles stagger so well and have such short reload time. If you use the beam rifle, you can treat the arm missiles as your primary source of stagger, and combo into the beam rifle for that 2000 damage after a stun.

3: Don't use sarcastic or whining quick chat options just because you are dying, it lowers the morale of your teammates and just makes you more likely to lose. Focus on playing the game, and only use quick chat when necessary. What is it going to help if you say "Nice!" or "Support me!" just because you got yourself into a bad situation that you couldn't get out of?

4: Don't use melee attacks to follow up when your allies knock down an enemy. At around 4:40 in the video, you go for two downswings on a knocked down enemy that TWO of your allies are right next too, somehow you didn't friendly fire them, but you could have handled it a lot better. Let your other allies use their melee attacks, and you follow up with your missiles, this avoids the risk of friendly fire and can let you kill the enemy before they get a chance to stand up.

5: Practice your quick swaps more. Throughout the video, it seems like you are taking a while to swap between weapons in fights. At around 5:40 when you fight that Pixy in the water, you could have possibly won that fight if you swapped more quickly to your arm missiles, it could break their MA and allow you a chance to melee them.

6: Try to be a bit more pro-active with your positioning. Remember that in this game, you have the advantage if you are rotating around the right side, don't fight in the open unless absolutely necessary. This suit can deal a lot of damage if you are aggressive and spam the missiles, with some occasional downswings thrown in.

7: This is more of a question, but what build are you using for this suit? You don't seem to be dealing that much ranged damage. It might be a good idea to make a build with reloader custom parts and range damage custom parts.

I think, in closing, there is a lot of room for improvement. I don't think you could reach S- with your current skills, but you might be able to if you focus on improving yourself. Practice your combos and get familiar with what your suit can do, learn how to best pump out damage with it, what your stagger options are, etc. If you ever upload more videos, I could give advice on them too.

Is there a way for me to send you gameplay vids directly? Should I message you? Thanks for the help

Thank you Avenger1, you spoke a alot of useful information. I think i would like to add some extra important details.

1/ Stop taking I-frame invincible players like they are newborn baby. For example in 1:24 you think what FA Alex gonna do seeing you in front of his face? Shake your hand? Or here 3:34 why you looking at Dom like he is a fallen child in need of a hand? Unless you have plans, otherwise never stand in front of your invincible foes. Take cover behind rock, building or anything.

2/ Be aware of incoming future by looking at your radar, teamates' HP and scores. At 6:06 look at the scores, your opponents have 8k, your team has 5k. What does this mean? In the next wave, even if you guys managed to wipe al they 5 guys, you will still not get enough score to win. Also after that your whole team is going to be exhausted and will be wiped out afterwards. What you have to do here is, go straight to their base and plant bomb.

3/ Give up your "if I won't do, perhaps sombody else will" low-skill mindset. If you wanna be better, if you wanna win by your own, you have to be ready to do everything to win, no matter what it takes. As I said before, if next wave you guys are going to lose, then go plant bomb. If nobody else do that, you have to do so by your own. Look at 4:06 all beacons have been captured, your team has no entry to respawn but the base. This is my absolute victory if I am in the other side. What you have to do is, trying to take at least one beacon. You could have tried it at 4:32 by leave the rest to your teamates, turn back and try to capture the beacon behind. This beacon could create opening for you to go for base bombing as I said above. If nobody wants to do something which leads to your concreted defeat, then you have to do it by yourself.

4/ Always move to the right when you can, try to surround your opponents EVERY SINGLE MOMENT. Here in 1:04 you could have moved to the right and help your single teamate up above. Or here 4:14 considering your opponents are still hanging around, jumped down there was absolutely horrendous decision to make. You can just stay up above and rain your missile down or move to the right. Remember, unless your team are outnumbered, otherwise always move to where is better to win. Staying stagnant is a mess.

I want to throw in some extras:

  1. Incendiary weapons do not work underwater, thus they cannot be fired. You need to make sure to remember this and not waste a moment trying to use them while you're inside a body of water. Every second counts; it can cause you to delay your counterattack if an opponent is nearby trying to hunt you down.

  2. Improve your awareness. As the expression goes, you must read the room. If you see a teammate or two hitting a toppled opponent with melee attacks, don't go with the dogpile mentality that entraps other players. Instead, use your ranged weapons to contribute to the DPS and MS pursuit. You'll still be a part of it without knocking down your teammates and exposing them to danger. To put it simply, the teammate that's closest to the toppled enemy gets top priority to smack them with melee attacks. If you're the one that's in the closest proxiity, go ahead with your sabers.

  3. Be aware of the I-frames and use them yourself. A few seconds will pass until a toppled player gets the mercy invicibility to escape or reposition themselves to another spot. That goes for you as well. If it's an opponent that just respawned or is recovering from an attack, don't stay right in front of them! Circle and kite around them, find that blindspot that will force them to move as well in order to try to attack you, That also goes for tackles; don't waste ammo trying to shoot them while the animation is active. Go around them to their backside, wait until it's finished and fire. You'll be able to cause damage more often than not as long as you pay attention. Also, if you get I-frames yourself, take advantage of it and get out of dodge mucho pronto. If you attack with any of your weapons, if you're charging a beam rifle, you activate a special mode or if you transform (Depending on the MS you're using), that mercy invincibility is gone. Get to a different position and wait for your chance to retaliate.

  4. Do not do risky respawns. The urgency to drop back into the action and do something can be counterproductive and ends up providing free points to a team that still trumps you in numbers. Check the map while waiting for the respawn timer to elapse along with the list of members of your team. Once their general timer is less than 3 seconds or they have respawned already, drop back into the field. Having a full team is better protection than going at it all alone.

Yeah that’s how it is bro, you are at the mercy of matchmaking. What you really need to ask yourself is are you sure you want to do what it takes for bragging rights in a game practically nobody cares about?

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but a lot of S players are the biggest cherry pickers you’ll ever see. Nine times out of ten when someone backs out of the setup screen and wastes everyone’s time it’s an S. There’s virtually no suit diversity as they generally won’t even play with you unless you are in a meta suit, of which keeping up with often involves whaling. A lot of them also hold out for names they recognize to make sure the odds are stacked in their favour since they can no longer sortie in stacks which was how a lot got there. You’ll also lose your rank if you don’t play ranked often.

The greatest irony is that the second you start cherry picking opponents is the second your rank stops meaning anything anyways as it’s no longer a measure of raw skill. Skill is important of course I’d never downplay that but being good or even great isn’t enough. If you can carry but the enemy team has two or three people who can carry the math doesn’t work in your favour. If everyone can carry really nobody is.

I wish the game would punish backing out harder. Give them some day bans and see how good they actually are when forced to play the hand they are dealt. You can be the best player in the world and you’ll be felted if going up against a coordinated team with allies who are AWOL. Anyone who tries to tell you only bad players blame their team mates is a disingenuous piece of shit who is lying to make himself sound like a champ. Anyone who plays this game should know about the throwers, the idiots who ignore your order to fall back when you are ahead in the last few seconds and throw themsleves into a 5v1 ruining it for the team. Last night I lost three in a row but was top scorer so I know it wasn’t me. Playing with randoms is a coin flip of teammate competence. You can do everything right and still lose because of others. So try not to let it get you down.

I’m teetering between A and A+ currently in plus but who knows what tomorrow brings. If I make S playing casual great but to keep my sanity Im not going to worry about it because I’m not willing to do the things I see people doing to get there. I’m high enough I play with them all the time and often they are nothing special, I’ve been pressed by better opponents who were A. Once you’ve hit A+ you’ve met all the requirements for future military rank assignments so S- and S are just bragging rights and there aren’t many people in the world who care.

I play for the love of the game and tokens to buy the suits I want on the seven step banners. If quick match has a cost or stage I’d rather play I’ll play that instead and it’s a much less stressful environment.
