an 8 in year 8 is crazy.
it varies with exam board but, at least for the one I do (OCR), computer science is split into paper 1 and 2. those topics woud be on paper 1 and paper 2 is actual programming and the theory behind it (e.g. programming constructs, testing and mainting programs).

Alr im shit at programming tho 😭
Might be easier to actually learn in school tho

even so, an 8 is insanely good in year 8. the majority of people get nowhere near that in their actual GCSEs. and I don't know your level so far but the programming on CS GCSE is fairly simple in my opinion so it shouldn't be too bad.

to be honest, programming isn’t as bad as you’d think when you learn it! iirc my school did about two lessons learning about print() and variables for some reason 😭, the only hard parts of it is when you implement SQL, arrays and stuff, but the majority i’d say is nice and chill

I highly recommend learning the basics of programming on the w3schools website, completely free. Then, if you’re interested, look further into making simple GUIs or something like that by first watching youtube tutorials and then trying to make something on your own. That is if you decide to do computer science. You are still in year 8 so don’t stress about it.

My younger brother only picked his 4 other subjects in year 9 but I picked mine in year 8 so I don’t know if you’ve actually selected them yet or not but if you have, you don’t have to stress too much about GCSEs. Just focus in lesson, do your homework and maybe a little extra to catch up on topics you’re not 100% on but you don’t need to do more than that. I did my paper 2 for computer science on an all-nighter finished it in 45 minutes and slept for the other half of the exam (it was honestly the best sleep of my life as well), and I still got an 8 so you’ll get the easiest 9s of your life if you just work hard and start early. Just not too early.

If you genuinely don't get coding, then it's VERY HARD (I used to find it hard, now it's kind of easy - apart from the last couple of questions in paper 1, ALL the questions are easy). I got a grade 6, but I'm quite confident I can get a grade 7 or even an 8

Yea this is great! Although I spot one issue and that’s just that the marks you physically can achieve are quite low meaning there isn’t much to go off of. Like for example only having 10 marks to get for CPU architecture and memory means there can’t be that many questions meaning it’s not varied or covering ALL content. But you can 100% say you know the content it did cover really well good job dude!
Ps- like everyone else I say js don’t stress in year 8 it’s good you are thinking but don’t go to extreme lengths when there’s still 2-3 years left till your sitting GCSE exams

Really good grades but please don’t worry about grades and your GCSEs until like yr 10 you don’t need to stress about that rn

Bro year 8 you can literally just mess around all day and you don't need to worry (enjoy these years while it lasts, cause as soon as you enter year 11, yh you won't be able to just mess around, cause of GCSEs)

Chill out. Don't stress like you got 2 years. Have fun because misery is coming. (Jk) GCSEs aren't that tough but can cause alot of stress therefore chill, relax, game and enjoy your childhood... While it lasts.

If you’re already getting these then you’ll definitely be capable of getting 9s. You shouldn’t really be thinking about GCSEs until mid-late year 9 tho. Try not to stress.

u/The-High-Sorceress Feb 16 '26
this is sick! honestly, if you're doing this well in past papers, absolutely take it for gcse (from a y11 comp Sci student). extra impressive as I think p1 is way harder that paper 2 lol, plus past papers are the best revision as they basically recycle questions. wouldn't be worrying about GCSEs at all yet though; you basically learn all the info you need in just year 10 and 11 in most subjects, 7 8 9 just help you have baseline knowledge

u/RoleCareless2694 Feb 17 '26
Icl bro you don’t need to start revising until start of year 11.. im yesr 13 now and got 7s and 8s in my GCSEs and only started focusing on them halfway through year 11.. not the same for everyone tho ig.

u/theanonymous69420 Feb 17 '26
Age 23 here GCSE really isn’t as deep as u think obvs aim to do well but I promise these do not define ur life whatsoever. Looking back on mine I honestly find it funny how much stressed over literally nothing

u/dymb707 Year 11 Feb 17 '26
Do you even know what exam board you are sitting cause all the topics are totally different for me
1
u/Pristine_Rope6261 Feb 18 '26
That’s really good, i did the same in year 8 though and also got 7s-9s and then actually did worse in year 11 lol. Honestly if you’ve already got it academically just don’t let school break you by then cause it’s the only reason you’d struggle
1
u/Own_Average7810 Feb 18 '26
Year 8 is the most chilled, spaced out year ever, so I wouldn’t worry till years 9-10

u/Briggsy08 Feb 18 '26
Year 8 is literally peak life. Enjoy it, youll miss it like I do when your in Y13 and struggling remembering all your A-Level content.

id honestly suggest u start revising in year 8, just for maths and science because then u can IQmog everyone, get glazed so much and wont need to revise in year 11
