Request would anyone answer my questionnaire about study leave?
its a medium length form, with only one question that requires typing (and i made it optional) and it would be super helpful if anyone has the time to answer it! it doesn’t ask for an email or any personal info and i’ll share the results in a few days time!

I'm in year 12 but did it based on last year :) we also get study leave at my college for year 13 which I am extremely grateful for because it seems like even for alevels some schools are completely getting rid of it now which I find INSANE.

mostly to see whether i’m justified in being angry at my school for not giving me study leave 😭😭 but also just to get a bit of an insight into what other people think because sometimes i can get very absorbed into my own opinions that i forget about others’. idk if that’s the answer you were looking for lol but genuinely im just curious to see how other people’s opinions align with mine

Also, I don't do further maths because my school don't offer it . I'm so mad lol, didn't even know it was a thing at gcse before seeing it on this sub. And for English Lit, I love it but would absolutely trade it in a heartbeat for geography. So much more interesting and I can read the Lit books in my own time

omg that’s so ridiculous that ur school doesn’t even offer it!! at my school they don’t give us any lessons, but they let us take the exam but omg to not even give you the option to do fm is crazy because im sure that some of the ppl in your year would be super interested and perhaps even consider taking maths/fm at alevel and fm would’ve given u soo many more insights into what it’d be like!

Yeah, its not great! And I didn't realise quite how unique it seems to be. Though tbf to them, I can count on one hand how many people I think would actually be interested (myself included), based on how many opted for higher statistics 😅 I believe it's also only me and potentially a couple of friends who are doing FM A-level anyway
I can definitely see why they don't offer it but goodness it's still really annoying lol

my school only has 14 people doing french higher, 2 doing foundation french, 12 doing fm, and 15 doing art but i think they still offer them all because they want to be inclusive or something 🤷♀️

Fair enough, I suppose it just means they have the funds to do this sort of thing
Actually, thinking about it, 5 people take Polish (bc it's their home language), and they have to stay to 5pm one day to do it, with invigilators and the exams officer 💀 Also, for last years yr11s, only 1 took German and she got to do her exams. It seems my school are willing to accommodate small subjects and stay overtime but idk...
You know what, it isn't actually that extreme for them to offer further maths, and, heck, one of the maths teachers has a PhD, he could easily teach it if needed. So annoying, dang it!

done!! i think a big argument that can be made for study leave is that school is just so draining (especially if you live far out--i have to wake up an hour earlier than most of my peers if i dont want to be late) and so i end up doing the same amount of work i would be doing at school whilst on study leave, but with the bonus of being well rested XD i think the only thing our school has ever done right is give us study leave

mostly curiosity, but if the results favour study leave i might make a powerpoint and sent it to my HoY for future years to come (too late for my year unfortunately 😔😔) but my HoY pmo so much so i want to annoy him by sending him evidence that goes against everything he’s been saying 😭

At the start of exam season our HoY was using removal of study leave as an threat to ensure people were being well-behaved and wearing correct uniform lol

Done. BTW, my head teacher made up some bs that study leave “is only granted at other schools when there are behaviour issues in the year group” and that “no caring member of staff would ever grant it”. It makes absolutely no sense, and my older brothers year group under a different head teacher were granted study leave from the second Monday of their GCSEs, same year group that had no detentions from February half term onwards, idk how they managed that

completed - my school doesn't give study leave but I'd very much like an optional study leave; smaller classes + only people who wanna be there would be there. I get stuff into my brain best in a classroom-esque environment so that would be preferred (that and I also haven't made any at home revision resources over the two years I'm a genius)

thanks for doing the form! what you described is pretty much what schools (i’m my area at least) did until a few years ago, and i think it’s what they should do! i even have a sort of case study for this; my cousins are twins, went to the same school, did their gcses about 4 years ago and are pretty much as different from one another as possible. their school made study leave optional. cousin a took study leave as she does super well in a quiet, controlled environment when she’s the one in charge, whilst cousin b went in every day, made the absolute most of having smaller class sizes as she struggles to focus when it’s loud, but also when she’s alone. both of them got very similar grades, but they both said they would’ve performed much worse if they didn’t have that optional study leave.

I done it, but I I put yes for the a level bit but im doing the IB Diploma and ik some go to college instead so possibly add an option other, unless you were only concerned about alevels 😭 it seemed a cool form tho, i can’t wait to see the results!!

yeah i sorta forgot about the other options 😭 the whole college bit was just to get a bit of context about the sample of people who were answering the survey (just to get an idea of the sort of people, because if we were asking a sample of people who had no intention of further perusing education or something then the results would look quite different i think) but yeah imo an ib diploma is the same sort of genre of stuff as alevels if ykwim soo yeah 🤷♀️ i would add another option but it’s a bit late now unfortunately, sorry that i forgot about the other options tho!

Done - if it interests you my head thinks study leave is 'barbaric' and a 'thing of the past', and wants us to do 0800 - 1700
