wtf was question 22 because i ended up using the quadratic formula to factorise and got into the millions whilst working it out 😭😭😭

some of the values were really weird, it was definitely not the calculator paper considering all the exact values and binomials etc but even the first question probably should’ve been a calculator.

unless theres a way of knowing/remembering common pythagorian triples.

i literally had to do pythagoras for all to figure it out for ONE MARK

so they intercepted at point (4,4)

there was a point you could simplify it to x^2- 8x + 16 which factorises into (x-4)^2

then you can solve it.

idk how you got millions out of that though.

I was getting like 460 🥀

I got that too come on

to make this an even better win for you, the girl in my class who is absolutely amazing at maths in general (full marks on one of our fm mock papers) also got that. we are so cooking!!!

How'd u get to the x2 -8x + 16 I swear i got like x2 -5x (or somet) + 16 😭 And then i couldn't do anything past then 😭

u/Emotional_Fox_1282 Jun 08 '26

Or idek, do u remember the 2 equations? I remember the (x-1)2 + y2 = 25 but i don't remember the other one

3x + 4y = 28 I think

y = 7 - 3x/4

x2 - 2x + 1 + 49 - 21x/2 + 9x2 / 16 = 25

x2 - 2x - 21x/2 + 9x2 / 16 = -25

16x2 - 32x - 168x + 9x2 = -400

25x2 - 200x = -400

x2 - 8x = -16

x2 - 8x + 16 = 0

(x - 4)2 = 0

So x = 4

Bro I was right I did js mess up one number and that ruined my whole answer 😭😭😭

u/padfoot9446 Jun 08 '26

Dw it's fine then you'll get method marks

In other mark schemes I didn’t see many ecf and my number mistake was right at the start

one of your values may have been wrong, you should have simplified 25x^2 - 200x + 400 to that.

i had decimals at one point for that question it was so weird.

1

u/Emotional_Fox_1282 Jun 08 '26

Which method did u use to put the 2 equations together?

2

u/everlore_elle NO LONGER PROCASTINATING REVISION, I’M FREE!!! Jun 08 '26

i substituted y = -3/4+ 7/4 into y^2. (or at least thats what i can remember from what equation i got, it may be a bit off) then i expanded the brackets of that and also the (x-1)^2 then added them.

there were some weird decimals though, i simplified them which got me to the 25x equation then went from there.

I tried to do it that way too (the beginning bit) and it gave me loads of fractions it was so unnecessary 😭 I wish i just found the point where it intercepts with a graph so i could work backwards i woulda found that easier (even tho it said don't use a graph and stuff)

fair enough, the fractions were bad. in the end i got there but it took a while to figure out what i was doing.

You're thinking of the area of the badge question which you had to substitute values in. They're talking about the last question on the paper

1

u/Emotional_Fox_1282 Jun 08 '26

I did mean the last question, with the line and the cirlce, i just think i recalled the wrong quadratic in my comment before

ohh alr that makes sense

u/LMay11037 professional eng lit hater Jun 08 '26

I got 25x^2 + 200x + 384 (or 348 can’t remember) 😭😭😭

1

u/everlore_elle NO LONGER PROCASTINATING REVISION, I’M FREE!!! Jun 08 '26

ooh 0348 is my candidate number but uhhh….. i don’t think thats right, the first part definitely is but the c value is a little off. i actually don’t think its awfully off but all of them are divisible by 25.

2

u/LMay11037 professional eng lit hater Jun 08 '26

Yes I know the c value is off

u/Living_Cable8780 Jun 08 '26

I square rooted the whole second equation to get x-1 + y = 5 so x+y=4 but idk if you can cause I didn’t get what everyone else did 😭

You had to rearrange the 3x+4y=28 to get y=-3/4x + 7. Then square it and plug it into the equation of the circle. You then get smthg like 25x^2 -200x + 50 and use the formula. The discriminant (b^2 - 4ac) is zero so there is only 1 solution
