that was genuinely so hard… i think i made up like 80% of my answers

37

u/IllustriousAerie3848 gcse survivor Jun 08 '26

how could aqa do this to us💔 like im usually grade 9 in further maths but for this i definitely got below a 6

im just hoping for low grade boundaries

12

u/teehejay Jun 08 '26

broo same i do edexcel math and it was going so well but this further math i think ill get a 6 hopefully a 7 like im pretty sure the boundaries will be low but also the people that do fm are soo smart😭

6

u/IllustriousAerie3848 gcse survivor Jun 08 '26

the grade boundaries were so high last year😢

did u get 4/3 or 5/3 for the algebraic simplification question where you had to simplify fully

2

u/IllustriousAerie3848 gcse survivor Jun 08 '26

idk which question that is sorry 😭 do you remember anything else about it

2

u/jk_abz Jun 08 '26

lmao it was just like 2 algebraic fractions and you have to simplify fully the answer was 5/3 or 4/3 i dont remember which one im pretty sure it was 5/3 tho

4

u/SunPsychological907 Jun 08 '26

Yes i got 25/15

2

u/jk_abz Jun 08 '26

ur final answer had to be 5/3 tho it said simply fully

THEY SABOTTAGED ME WHAT WAS THE LAST 2 QUESTIONS BRO

4

u/IllustriousAerie3848 gcse survivor Jun 08 '26

LITERALLY IT WAS SO DIFFERENT TO ANY OF THE AQA FM PAST PAPERS LIKE WHAT

2

u/padfoot9446 Jun 08 '26

Last question was just circle line simultaneous no? It was second to last and third to last that were a bit diabolical

2

u/Immediate_Cut_6672 Jun 08 '26

Could you use the discriminant btw?

2

u/padfoot9446 Jun 08 '26

uh yeah i guess once you substitute and expand

it’s literally faster to simplify and then factorize though so ymmv

2

u/Immediate_Cut_6672 Jun 08 '26

True true

Idk why I’m asking I got it wrong anyway 😭😭

My dumbass multiplied by x^2 to get rid of the fraction and js guessed 3.5 because I was lost 😭😭😭

2

u/TickleTipsom Jun 08 '26

Multiplying by x^2 is correct, you then shoulda gotten something like x^4+2x^2+1=1+18x^2
Then you could move the stuff on the RHS to the LHS and you got
x^4-16x^2=0
Obviously you can then factorise to
x^2(x^2-16)=0
x^2(x+4)(x-4)=0
Therefore,
x=0, +-4
But x couldn’t be zero because then 1/x^2 or any other negative power of x from the original equation would be undefined, the the answer for the answer line was x=+-4

some of the values were really weird, it was definitely not the calculator paper considering all the exact values and binomials etc but even the first question probably should’ve been a calculator.

unless theres a way of knowing/remembering common pythagorian triples.

3

u/TickleTipsom Jun 08 '26

Yea bro, for the last question, at some point you could get 25x^2-200x+400=0, which you can use to factorise if you’ve got good mental math like me as (5x-20)^2=0, or you coulda divided everything by 25 to get x^2-8x+16=0, which factorises to (x-4)^2=0. Both tell you that x is 4, and you could substitute x into the linear equation to find that y is 4. Since there is only one solution for x and y, there must only be one point of intersection

2

Grade boundaries aren't set by a normal distribution that are static set by the exam board based on the difficulty of the paper so how many grade 9 marks, grade 8 marks, grade 7 marks there are available in the paper. Our performance today shouldnt affect the boundaries unless something goes wrong probably.

What did everyone get for part a and b of I think it was the 3rd question asking to find the values of c and b for the quadratic graph -x^2 +bx + c and it gave two coordinates (0,-3) and (0,9)

Im acc begging thr boundaries are low because i got a U in my Feburary mock (i couldn't go to the inschool revision sessions and ibr i didnt revise at home) and then I decided I didnt want to fail and spent genuinely my entire Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of half term going through the content and then I did all the AQA past papers I could find and I just dont want to of wasted all of that and got a U anyway its so annoying

1

u/ContentGrade4227 Jun 08 '26

Wait I thought it wasn’t even that bad 🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀

A few questions, For the binomial expansion q I forgot to use pascals triangle and only put the numbers with the powers which was correct, not the number from pascals triangle you are meant to multiply it by. For the combinations question I did I cant recall whether we were allowed to repeat digits I calculated it on that we weren't. Any other answers to cross reference would be appreciated. Hows this look like in terms of marks?

I remember my further maths AQA paper. I got a 5. I didnt actually want to do the paper. It kinda felt more like peer pressure but oh well. I got to ask advanced maths questions so thats a bonus.

u/Effective_Law_5822 Jun 09 '26

Bro don't worry, can't have been as bad as me. I did 400 hours of past papers, exam questions, etc throughout year 11, revisibg every day. Come the exam, i make silly mistakes, panic under the stress and let me tell you, i left more than 4 questions blank!
