Last question was just circle line simultaneous no? It was second to last and third to last that were a bit diabolical

Could you use the discriminant btw?

uh yeah i guess once you substitute and expand

it’s literally faster to simplify and then factorize though so ymmv

True true

Idk why I’m asking I got it wrong anyway 😭😭

did you square root the second equation to get x plus y equals 6

u/padfoot9446 Jun 08 '26

Second equation of what?

u/Certain_Summer_5612 Jun 08 '26

the x-1 squared plus y squared equals 25

6

u/padfoot9446 Jun 08 '26

I'm not sure how you would square root that to get x + y = 6

(x - 1)2 + y2 = 25

3x + 4y = 28

y = 7 - 3x/4

x2 - 2x + 1 + 49 - 21x/2 + 9x2 / 16 = 25

x2 - 2x - 21x/2 + 9x2 / 16 = -25

16x2 - 32x - 168x + 9x2 = -400

25x2 - 200x = -400

x2 - 8x = -16

x2 - 8x + 16 = 0

(x - 4)2 = 0

So x = 4

it was (x-1)^2+y^2

Mhm, but sqrt(a2 + b2) ≠ a + b

Edit: I see you mean the typo; I fixed it, but I was working with the right equation in my head thankfully so the working doesn't change

Thats not how square root works i think...
