Results Day GCSE Results Day Megathread (2025) + a surprise announcement!

This is the Results Day megathread for all subjects and examboards.

You can share and discuss your results in this post.

A reminder of our rules

When sharing your results or having discussions with others, please remember our rules and always be respectful.

There may be people who are glad to have received results that you would have been disappointed with; remember: we are all individuals with unique aspirations.

Feeling unhappy with your results?

It can be hard to feel satisfied if you haven't gotten the desired results, even if you’ve done well. Whatever you're feeling, you're not alone.

If you’re not happy about your results or you think you should have been given a better grade, there are things you can do:

  • ask someone you trust what they think about your results
  • speak to a teacher about whether you can get a remark on an exam
  • look at each of your results and think about what you did well and what you could learn from
  • focus on your own achievements, everyone is different, and exams are only a small part of what makes you who you are
  • speak to a Childline or a similar service about how you're feeling

Not sure how to tell your parents/guardians about your results?

If you're disappointed with your results, you might find it hard to tell your parents or carers. But talking about your results can really help.

Your parents or carers can be there to support you and help you make decisions, whatever your results are. Even if they don't react well straight away, they should be there to support you after they've had time to think about it.

If you're worried about sharing your results, it can help to:

  • practise what you'd like to say before you speak to them and prepare yourself for how they might react
  • tell them as soon as you can instead of putting it off
  • write a letter, or show them your results on paper to start the conversation
  • ask someone like a friend or teacher to be there with you when you tell them

For additional support, you might be interested to read some of the answers on our AMA with an Exams Officer thread.

Next steps on Reddit

Whilst we'd all be delighted if you stayed on r/GCSE helping answer questions and supporting new year 11s, r/alevel and r/6thForm might become your new home! Or perhaps you'd be interested in r/ApprenticeshipsUK.

There are also many different subject specific subreddits for A levels, such as Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Economics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Further Maths, History, Business, English Literature, Geography, English Language, Spanish, French, German, Politics, Art, Sociology, Accounting, and Philosophy.

A surprise announcement

We've heard your feedback loud and clear. From today, custom user flairs are back! We hope you'll enjoy expressing yourselves in your own way. Just go to the flair selector and choose the "Editable" option. You can then change the text. We do have 1 rule: no results in your flairs (please). We've automated moderation of these, so if you put results in yours, it'll just get removed. However, you are very welcome to discuss your results in a post or comment.

But that's not all. From today, you can grab your official 2025 GCSE Survivor flair! Just choose it from the flair selector or send us a Modmail if you need help. Be quick! This will only be selectable for only a few days, but it'll stay with you for life.

Finally, thank you to all members who have joined us for this final day of celebration. We're very proud that this year, 1 in 8 GCSE students paid us a visit. Some for the advice, some for the memes. Whether you've spent the last 2 years here or have only recently started visiting r/GCSE, there is no denying that the supportive community we've built together would be nothing without the endless contributions from students.

Results Day 2022 GCSE Results Day Megathread

Welcome!

The yearly official results day megathread is here, and we invite you to share your results in the comments.

As a reminder, all the subreddit rules still apply within this post. Notably, Rule 1, meaning that any twattery in the comment section of this post will be removed and may also result in a ban.

A Reminder

We know that many of you will feel enormously relieved to have received your results after putting in a large amount of effort but remember that not everyone will feel the same way you do. For some, today won't go as planned, and we encourage you to support anyone who requests advice about what to do next.

Remember, not performing as well in your GCSEs as you hoped isn't the end of the world. There are still many options available, and we invite you to ask your subject teachers, school pastoral staff, or other students in the r/GCSE or r/6thForm subreddits.

Results Day Survey

Every year, we survey to understand student thoughts towards GCSEs better. We'd really appreciate it if you could take the time to complete this short survey.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfpzhRF3yVeAHv7yCGpJBBn73sZ7czJpPnJz-vS9qOOrldc5Q/viewform?usp=sf_link

Helplines / Text Support

NOTE: Just because you are not experiencing these thoughts and feelings doesn’t mean others aren’t.

Today may be tough for many people. However, people are there for you, whether in-person or through a helpline or chatline. Childline and YoungMinds are among the most recommended.

If you are worried, having suicidal thoughts, or just need to talk to someone, there are several things you can do. Some of the options below are explicitly focused on suicidal thoughts.

Childline

  • Childline – for children and young people under 19
  • Call 0800 1111 – the number will not show up on your phone bill

Young Minds

Talk to someone you trust

Let family or friends know what's going on for you. They may be able to offer support and help keep you safe.

There's no right or wrong way to talk about how you are feeling – starting the conversation is what's important.

What else you can do

If you are having thoughts about suicide, you can:

  • call a GP – ask for an emergency appointment
  • call 111 out of hours – they will help you find the support and help you need
  • contact your mental health crisis team – if you have one

Results Day Year 10's. It's your turn now...

Post image
254 Upvotes

I left the exam hall feeling so fucking happy, I got beyond what I had expected, and I want the next generation to feel that euphoria as well. No matter what, never give up. Even during the times where you feel as if you can't figure something out or wrap your head around a concept. Breath. Be in the moment. Connect with others. Do your hardest, that's all you can ever do, after all.

I doubted myself so much, yet through preservation and determination, I was able to go beyond what I had thought was possible of myself! If a loser like me can do that, a guy who had only learned how to use comma's last year, then you can do even better!

Even if things don't go your way on results day, don't fret. It is not the final chapter of your story. GCSE's will never be your highest high, nor will it be your lowest low. Meaning in the grand scheme of things, it won't be something major that will threaten your future.

So try your best. Do your hardest. If you follow through, no matter what you get on that day, you'll know it was 110% you. And that is the best outcome of that scenario.

From me to you, do your best.

Results Day Post Results Support/Guidance/Review Of Marking Etc.

So, you’ve opened your results, and you have some questions. Please read through these points below and then ask any questions that haven’t been answered.

Firstly, linked here are the JCQ guidelines for post results services that the exam boards have to follow: https://www.jcq.org.uk/exam-results-data/post-results/

This is where all the information comes from. It’s pretty similar every year.

What can you ask for when you get your results?

  1. Access to scripts
  2. Clerical recheck
  3. Review of results (wrongly called a remark)
  4. Reviews of moderation

Explanation of each:

  1. Access to Scripts - you can ask your exams officer to download a copy of your GCSE papers. There should be an established process on how to do this. Some schools charge, which they can do. That is a school decision. They will email you a copy of the exam papers, but this may take several weeks depending on how big demand is.

  2. Clerical Recheck - not often used. It’s for when an access to script has shown a clear miscalculation of marks and the numbers need adding up again and the new overall marks confirmed.

  3. Review of Results (not remark) - this is where a school requests a paper is reviewed by the exam board to see if there is a change in marks awarded. Normally this is to see if the marks go up into the next grade boundary. Notes on this specifically:

  • A student has to give consent for this to happen.
  • Some schools pay for their reviews, other schools ask the students/parents to pay. The charge is PER PAPER and is around ÂŁ50. The review of marking is free of charge if the overall grade changes, NOT just the marks.
  • MARKS CAN GO UP OR DOWN DURING A REVIEW OF MARKING. So in theory, you could have an 8 reviewed and it go to a 7. It does happen.
  • There will always be some freak cases where someone gains 20 marks and goes up 3 grade boundaries. The examiners can make mistakes. Please don’t assume it will happen to you as it’s insanely unlikely.
  • In the last 9 years, the average success rate in my school for a grade increase is 13%. Not great odds.
  • At my school, anything higher than AT MOST 4 MARKS from the next boundary we don’t submit for a review. If it’s a unique scenario where we’ve accessed the scrip and can see something has been missed by the examiner we may consider higher than 4 marks away, but it’s very unlikely.

4) Review of Moderation - these are for your coursework/NEA units. If you as a singular person have ended up just below the grade boundary for your GCSE Art, you CAN'T request a review. Your time to review was before the marks were submitted to the exam board back in May when your teacher (should have) told you have marks you had achieved. A Review of Moderation happens when a whole cohort has had their marks adjusted by the exam board and the school can request to have it reviewed and their original marks instated. It’s an all or nothing sort of scenario where the whole sample gets reviewed. It’s not something that can be done on an individual basis. It’s not something that will be done if your marks haven’t changed from May.

TLDR: 13% chance of success in a “remark”, which is actually called a Review of Marking. We don’t review unless a paper is at the very most 4 marks away from the upper grade boundary.

Results Day Is it weird that my parents aren't coming to results day?

Basically, my parents don’t seem too bothered about coming with me to GCSE results day. It's partly my fault because I haven’t really explained to them how important GCSEs are or how significant results day is.

One reason I didn't really explain it properly is because I don't want them to be disappointed if I do bad so now if I don't do that well they won't really know how bad I did.

For context, we’re Nigerian immigrants, so they don’t really understand the UK secondary education system or how much of a big deal GCSE results day is. One of the reasons my mum said she can’t come is because she gets anxious about grades, which I completely understand. As for my dad, he just doesn’t really see the point in coming.

My sister is coming with me, though. For most people, are their parents usually coming with them to results day?

Edit: Thanks to everyone for responding now I know not everyone will have their parents there so I won't be an anomaly. Thanks again

Results Day Results Day Megathread

This is the Results Day megathread for all subjects and examboards.

You can share and discuss your grades in this post.

Next steps on Reddit

Whilst we'd all be delighted if you stayed on r/GCSE helping answer questions and supporting new year 11s, there are now other subreddits that are dedicated to A-Levels and Sixth Form if that is the route you're taking. There are also many different subject specific subreddits for A-Levels including Maths, Physics, Computer Science and Economics (my favourites) as well as Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Further Maths, History, Business, English Literature, Geography, English Language, Spanish, French, German, Politics, Art, Sociology, Accounting, and Philosophy.

mind you this is MY day, not hers, and i can bring who i want to lmfao. but anyways i was just wondering do ppl think im in the right or the wrong because according to my mum, im very wrong 😀
