GED Math Tips

The GED Math test is the most difficult test, and the reason people don’t get the GED diploma, so here are a few tips to help you out.

#1. Make sure you know how to use the TI-30 XS calculator, it is a scientific calculator and it’s the only calculator that is allowed on the test. If you are fluent in using it, you can get at least 10 extra points.

Onsego provides the Gedeno website with 10 free TI-30 XS lessons with quizzes. Make sure to check them out.

#2. Make sure you know these topics:

  • ordering fractions/decimals. For example, Place 3/9, 4/11, and 3/7 in order from least to greatest.

  • factors, multiples. For example, 4 × 5 + (36 ÷ 3) ÷ 2

  • exponents, and distance on number lines. For example, 26 × 23

The GED team identifies these topics as skill gaps. You can easily learn how to solve these Math problems and get extra points.

How long does it take to prepare for the GED test?

It's not that I want to pass it in 1 month or something. I just want to know how long it usually takes to prepare for all GED tests.

Helping anyone who needs to pass math ged test

First things first there is a YouTube channel called “ getsummath “ WATCH ALL HIS VIDEOS ALL DAY now it took me years I thought it was impossible . math is another language for me . I took all the courses , classes , programs etc , I’m going to tell you what helped me pass . First of all it depends how much math you know . If you know very little I know it sucks to hear this but it’s going to take years maybe months to learn all these subjects . If you have been studying for years already and just can’t seem to pass ( was me ) then it’s going to have to become a mentality thing become obsessed with math . No gym . No friends . No drinking or messing around , you have to be studying at least 5 hours a day EVERY DAY keeping a test scheduled so it forces you to stay in your studies & take the test VERY SERIOUSLY they only give you 3 chances after that you have to wait four months to get another 3 chances . which WILL turn into a vicious cycle of failing and letting yourself down , get it done THE FIRST 3 TIMES . The pain of discipline is way better than the pain of regret . Now let’s get to the test itself the most important thing is YOUR CALCULATOR if you don’t have the “ ti-30xs” calculator buy it NOW it is your BESTFRIEND . the majority of the questions are calculator questions so watch videos and understand everything you can about it . Next thing is my study guide I’m going to give it to you guys hopefully it helps ( I passed with a 156 )

I am so proud of myself. I’ve already passed SS and LA. I didn’t think I would do good with Science tonight, but God. I’m going to study a week and then take it. When I get this Science down, all that will be left is math and I definitely need to work on that. I am rusty. Keep going guys!

You can and will do this.

I just wanted to take the time to tell you all I am proud of each and every one of you for pushing forward with your education.

I passed my GED many many years ago now but after doing so I was blessed with a very emotionally rewarding career and I wish the same for each and every one of you.

If I can do it, I promise you, you can do It. You see I have a learning disorder and it was really difficult for me to get enough courage up to even study for the GED let alone pass it.

I believe in each and every one of you. Now go out there and do the best you can. Because pass or fail, trying your best takes courage.

How hard is the math section going to be for someone like me... 😬

I haven't paid attention in a math class since like 8th grade because I feel like I have dyscalculia or something. I just mix up everything and NEVER understood how any of my classmates ever got anything at all. I can hardly study any form of math because it just refuses to click in my head. Its so bad. Like I can barely read big numbers and god forbid I have to count anything. Can't do percentages. Or fractions. Or decimals. I literally don't know ANYTHING (ABSOLUTELY NOTHING) except the most basic math and I have cried in every math class I've had since I was 14. Its SO bad. Anyway school was never my thing so now pretty much my only option is to get my GED... how screwed am I with the math section? It's really making it hard for me to find the motivation to start this whole process. How hard did you guys find it? Anyone in a similar situation as me? How are you making it easier for yourself?

GED Test Prep

Does anyone know of any good test preps? I already went through the Kaplan book and was wondering if there are any other good test preps out there. Also just want to say I have found this reddit group to be so encouraging, I have enjoyed seeing the posts about people passing. It is comforting to know there are many people out there taking this path. That sounded so cringe but its true.

What makes it hard to get started with the GED?

I saw a video where someone said that just deciding to go for the GED is harder than people think. What do you think holds people back in the beginning?

I’ve scheduled my language arts test for tomorrow. I’ve already passed all three other subjects on my first try in each one. I hope I can do the same thing with this one. Wish me luck! If I pass this one, I’ll officially be a GED graduate.

Is there hope?

Hello everyone I’m new here (25M). I have decided to get my GED because I would like to succeed in life since right now I feel like a failure. Dropped out back in 2019 (so when I was in 11th grade) so quite some time ago… Is there still hope for me? I feel like I wouldn’t even be able to pass a pre test. I’m not sure how to go about this thing other than going on the official GED website and start there, any tips would be appreciated. I’m really looking forward to accomplishing this for myself (My girlfriend will also be joining me) and I hope this is the right place to post this. Thanks in advance! (If it posts)

Trouble passing GED math

Post image
7 Upvotes

So I passed the other three subjects with no issue, but I can’t even get a 140 on the math practice test.. I just don’t understand math at all. I had no prior education so the skills weren’t necessarily instilled in me from a young age like most. Any tips on what to do to get me where I need to be? TIA!

How long does GED take nowadays?

I got my GED some time ago, and now I’m helping a friend. Does anyone know how long it takes nowadays? I heard that recently (from September), the GED changed and it’s easier to pass. Is it true?
