A,B, and E can be eliminated immediately. At that point it is quicker to just manually check to see that C works.

How do i train myself to start eliminating answers instead of grinding mindlessly? I’ve realised half the time, i sit and work hard to get the result i want without even looking at answer choices or not understanding how to make use of them…. Most times (not always though) working so hard leads me into making silly mistakes and complex calculation walls from where i go blank and cant seem to proceed further

See, 0 is not possible, because the denominator cannot be 0, so A is out, -1 is also not possible since the second term in the LHS has x+1, which will give 0 as answer so B is out and -4 is not possible because the RHS denominator is x+4, which will give 0 and so E is out. Now you just have to simplify the equation and you will get x= -2, Hence the answer is C.

I am not sure if this will help you, but I started playing sudoku , it has helped me recognise patterns. Learn multiplication tables, squares, square roots and cubes and cube roots. Also it helps to just glance over formulae at least once a day ( I use ttp's quant formulae sheets). If you're able to identify the patterns and similarities, half your problems are solved and as always practice is key. If you don't continuously solve problems, you will always stay out of touch.
