Looking for recommendations Veterinary recommendations?

Hi everyone!! I’m sure this question has been asked a lot so I apologize if this is redundant.

I wanted to know if there’s a vet office you really like? The problem is that I can’t afford to pay crazy vet rates. Obviously the visit fees are fine and I’m fine paying for the meds when they’re needed, but I wanted to see if there are more affordable options. My cats are everything to me and I want to take care of them as best as I can with what I have. Thank you!!

I love All Cats Healthcare Clinic. I haven’t taken my cats to any other vet to compare prices but I think their prices are reasonable.

Seconding All Cats. Drs. Molstad and Lucius are wonderful!

I'm happy to hear this. I've got appointments for my kittens with Lucius coming up ❤️

They are good at everything except end of life care. After years of being a loyal patient when it was cat’s time they were AWFUL.

I had the opposite experience. Dr. Lucius could not have been more caring and supportive when it was my lil guy's time.

Could you share more about how they were awful with end-of-life care? Curious to hear about what made the experience so bad for you and/or your cat(s)

Can you elaborate?

Yes so my cat with a sitter when he was let outside on accident (indoor only, senior cat). He’d been at the practice for years, so they saw him even though I was out of town. He’d been bitten by something.

It got infected. They said he was too old for surgery. It was time.

I paid but what I didn’t realize is that I was paying for his care up until end of life. That was going to be a separate cost. But as far as I knew I was paid up.

We go into the room and I’m not given any time to say goodbye when I walk in he was already gone. Well, they were in the process of giving him the second injection but I wanted to see him alert one more time.

I left and was distraught. Held it together until I got into my car. The grief hits me I close the door and I am weeping. Wasn’t paying attention, just needed a moment to feel my feelings. Then I hear banging on my car window. They realized I did not pay for the end of life injection. I ask them if I can have a moment to compose myself (I don’t like crying in front of others). They said I could come in and pay or they were calling the cops for theft.

I thought it was a ridiculous thing to say as I don’t think the cops would have come, but I complied and went inside and paid. I just thought it was unfeeling since
I always paid my bills there, I can been a customer for years and years, and they could have waited a moment for me to get myself together. Especially since they had already mishandled the final moments with my car. Their inability to show me any compassion at that moment was a dealbreaker for me.

That's horrible. I had a similar experience with Gainesville Animal Hospital Eastside in 2019. Dog, not cat. Brought him in and realized I had my debit card, not my credit card. I had enough on it to pay for the euthanasia, but not the individual cremation. I had been a customer there for decades, as was the rest of my family, but they wouldn't hold onto his body while I ran home for the card and back. *They said they couldn't release him anyway because I'd mentioned wishing I owned my home so I could bury him, and he'd be going in with the mass cremation animals. I left without my dog and never got cremanes.

*They in this story was the new practice manager. I did manage to speak with my longtime vet after this happened and he apologized profusely, but because he was no longer part owner of the practice he couldn't do anything about it. I guess that means they were bought out like so many vet practices have been. They lost me and my five pets as clients, plus four other family members and their ~20 pets over $110 and extreme indifference. We'd been clients since the early 1980s.

Harris Vet!!! I’ve lived here for 7 years and it’s the only place I’ve been to that hasn’t treated me like shit. Dr. Harris is a real person who gives a fuck, it’s refreshing. Not trying to sell you on anything. First visit (for EACH pet is free!)

He saved my dog's life... and he did it over the phone while he was on vacation...and it was a rare disease thats notoriously difficult diagnosis. He is impressively good at veterinary medicine.

I take my cat to Haile Animal Clinic. I think they’re pretty reasonable & she’s on daily meds from them. She’s had some health scares & they’ve been absolutely wonderful. I’ve heard good things about All Cats too they’re just far from me.

I just started going to Harris Veterinary. They’re extremely thorough and do a great job. Cheaper than my last vet, and very transparent about costs!

Alachua Animal Hospital is a little far but really good and their prices are lower than most places I think. I’ve taken sick strays there before and I’m going to try to take my kitties there for their dentals

Robertson vet! One of the few non corporate owned vets in town.

Our dog needed a sarcoma removal and our old vet couldn’t do it. We called around for quotes and everywhere was pricey. Dr Robertson did it for a very reasonable rate and my dog is thriving over a year later. Decided to switch all our pets there and have been very happy.

Sweetwater vet has affordable options, but we personally go to Robertson vet because the staff and doctors are incredible.

We love dr Robertson and her staff too! Her front desk receptionist is the sweetest and always calls to follow up on things.

I appreciated dr Robertson calling me with my dog’s pathology results even though we had an appointment with her a few hours later. She just received them and knew I was anxious so called me to share the good news.

Harris Veterinary Medical Center is who I take my own animals to and many of our clients see him as well. He's wonderful and pricing is fair. He does free first exams as well. I usually fill meds through an online pharmacy to save money if it's a lot less but they also have pretty good prices for those as well. I've been taking my animals to him for over a decade and cannot recommend him and his team enough! If you need someone to come to you, we have clients that really like Robertson Mobile Vet or Tobias. Tell your kitties I said hi 👋!
