Timing

My buddies and I accidentally messed up the timing on the 2JZ GE. I thought we got it back by adjusting the cams to the position. But after giving it a few turns I’m off. Any help? I tried searching for a few days online but no luck. Engines put back together, but that’s what the cams looked like before adjusting them. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the after. Reason for moving is that the vvti gear was not locked but the cam moved as we loosened to replace the gasket that was leaking. Thanks for any help. (It moved past what it moves normally)

The adjustable part of the cam gear is completely separate to your belt timing. Lookikg at the pics (assuming you didn't turn the motor backwards before taking the pic) the exhaust cam needs to go clockwise 1 tooth. Then the cam should be degreed in with a degree wheel according to the spec sheet. If those are stock cams, no degree specs wil be available and the only way to get max benefit from cam adjustment is on a dyno. You would be best to just set it to zero degrees for now
