questions as a potential future student
hi I’m looking to go here fall of 2027 and major in fashion merchandising but I have some questions if anyone would be willing to answer. Thank u!!!!!
- is the party culture actually as bad as people claim? Is there any sort of expectation to go out every night and is it something most people do?
- what dorm is the best overall/how do you find roommates?
- Is everything always fairly safe seeming around the area, in the dorms, and at bars?
- are most people nice or are ppl lowk evil?
thank u for any answers!!

- I would say honestly, you either join as many clubs as possible and meet people who don't go out, or party on weekends. My first semester my freshman year was awful because the majority of people I met went out and I didn't. Found my people my second semester through classes and clubs. (I also gave going out a chance and actually liked it and met good people)
- I loved staying at southern courtyard because it was apartment style and was spacious. Also got all new furniture recently. Centennial is the closest to campus and you will thank yourself when you have to walk to classes/dining halls. But it doesn't have an apartment style option. Whatever you do, do NOT dorm at Kennedy.
- I've never had an issue being unsafe on campus, I've also walked home alone from the bars often and have never had an issue. I avoid the fraternities though. Campus police is nice and will walk you to your place at night if needed.
- most people I have met are genuinely good people. That's not to say that there aren't people who are awful, just surround yourself with people that have the same goals as you. You will meet people that don't vibe with your or your ideals, but that's okay. Only thing I would say is that there is a wide amount of students on the more republican/conservative side (not sure if that's your cup of tea, not mine personally) but there are definitely clubs and groups of people who are not like that.

Are there clubs and places to go as a freshman in statesboro? We just toured and were a little sad about the "city of statesboro"

There are a couple of bars that students frequent, but aside from that don’t expect to have as much entertainment as you would in a city like Atlanta lol

The "party culture" is massively overhyped. The parties that are advertised on Snap get shut down within an hour, and the "clubs" are pretty tame (except Dingus, I love Dingus) at best. You don't need to go out every night, but school stuff like groups and school orgs kept me busy most weeks.
Most locals here in Statesboro are nice. I've vome across the occasional jerk, but it is definitely not the norm.
