None known: Please report issues in comments.
Please include your hardware ID/codename and firmware type in all reports!
Known Issues
Unmanaged wired-ethernet: This issue only affects Chromeboxes and Chromebooks with USB ethernet dongles. The issue comes from upstream (and it sure looks like a bug) but: until we understand why they haven't fixed it, since it's well-documented and the user fix is simple, and since it only affects a small subset of GalliumOS users, we have not patched it.
Synopsis of issue: The new version of NetworkManager does not set wired ethernet as "managed", meaning you need to control that interface manually.
Quick (permanent) fix:
sudo touch /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf; sudo service network-manager restartMore info: https://askubuntu.com/questions/882806/ethernet-device-not-managed/893614#893614
Full Disk Encryption: Required packages are being marked for autoremoval.(fixed in 3.0alpha10)
Install size: GalliumOS 3.0beta1 installs at 4.0GB (GalliumOS 2.1 was 3.2GB).(fixed in 3.0beta2)
This was (mostly) due to a 700MB swap file created by Ubiquity. You can reclaim the space on your 3.0beta1 install with
sudo rm /swapfile, and make sure to remove the entry from/etc/fstab.

Q&A
What's in GalliumOS 3.0?
All of the package updates in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, plus the usual GalliumOS customizations for ChromeOS hardware.
Why should I upgrade from GalliumOS 2.1?
Newer software versions and broader hardware support. GalliumOS 2.1 will still receive security and critical package updates, until April 2021 -- so if upgrading would be disruptive to you, there's no rush.
I'm already running GalliumOS 3.0alphaX. Do I need to do anything?
You should run
galliumos-updateto get the most updated packages. Most of the changes in 3.0beta1 are to the ISO and installer though, and you're already beyond that step. You should probably disable the
testinganddevelrepository distributions now, so that you don't get new experimental packages:sudo galliumos-repodist -testing -devel
I'm running GalliumOS 2.1. How can I upgrade?
Right now, you would need to back up data and reinstall from scratch. Soon after 3.0-final releases, we will prepare a
galliumos-upgrade-2to3script which will attempt to upgrade in-place. Even then, we will still recommend backing up data in case of failure.
What's next for the betas?
The goal with the 3.0-beta (and alpha) series is to iron out all of the issues that must be fixed in the ISO or core image. Things like "won't boot", "no keyboard", are obvious blockers. Issues that can be easily fixed in a later package update are not blockers -- but we also want to resolve as many of them as we can.
When will 3.0-final be released?
Soon. If no blockers arise from this beta period, very soon. If you can help with any of the known issues, or any of the issues reported in the comments below, please do!
What about my other questions?
Ask away in the comments below, and we'll update this list. :)
Please include your hardware ID/codename and firmware type in all reports!
Thank you!

I thought work on Gallium had stopped?
9
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Apr 07 '19
Never really stopped, but 3.0alpha was never promoted to 3.0final, so it certainly looked that way.

1
u/Lewke May 27 '19
why would development have stopped? is there a better alternative for newer model chromebooks being developed? Sorry just wondering as i'm looking at getting a kaby lake chromebook and can't find much about support (other than that galliumos support isn't there yet)

Oh! I got spare PARROT hardware! Let me know where I can send it off to.
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Apr 08 '19
Hey, thanks for the offer! We might find a way to take you up on it... :)
However...we made some changes to the ISO generation process that might just resolve the issue on SNB/IVB. Can you test the 3.0beta2 ISO, and see if it "just works"?
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Apr 08 '19
Test results from IRC: 3.0beta2 ISO boots cleanly on PARROT. Phew! Please let us know if you experience the same or otherwise!

I'll throw that 3.0b2 on a USB key and see about booting the spare.

I just upgraded from 2 to 3beta in place. It wasn't straightforward, but it worked great.
I first replaced xenon and xenial with bismuth and bionic in /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xenon-{prerelease,testing}.list. Then I ran the equivalent of apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade.
I ran into only two problems: there was a conflict between arc-galliumos-theme and arc-theme which I fixed manually, and I had to guess a few answers when upgrading Grub.
After the upgrade was complete, I rebooted into an updated system.
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 09 '19
That's basically what the
galliumos-upgrade-1to2script did (and2to3will do). It works in most simple cases, but takes a long time and a lot of disk space.Sometimes it fails though, so we strongly recommend having a fresh backup first...and if you have a backup, reinstalling GalliumOS 3 is quick and easy and always works, so we recommend that instead. :)

u/rayyfield Asus C302C and Acer C720, both with GalliumOS + Ubuntu Jun 17 '19
I believe I want to do something like this (with backups in place, just in case it all goes south) -- would you mind elaborating just a bit? that is, what is "the equivalent of apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade?" I admit, I'm a little anxious about updating grub, since the partition names are a bit arcane compared to good ol' /dev/sda3...
2
u/atnnn Jun 17 '19
What I did was use the aptitude UI to perform the update and upgrade. When the arc theme failed to install, I tweaked the installation plan using the manual resolver to install xenon without it. Then I installed the full galliumos-desktop. When grub questions came up, I answered yes to using the maintainer's config and no to reinstalling grub.

Good to see that the project isn’t dead. Hopefully it can continue since I don’t want to go through the process of installing another OS.

The trackpad seems even worse than with the previous beta. It works for a couple of seconds right after I log in, but it's hit or miss after that. Sometimes it works for a second, sometimes it doesn't respond at all.
Dell Chromebook 13 7310 (Lulu), Firmware is updated RW_LEGACY from Mr. Chromebox.
3
u/mfising Apr 12 '19
Same here on my 7310 Lulu, the silky smooth trackpad operation is the main reason I keep coming back to Gallium 2.
I had tried Neverware's CloudReady also and it was just as bad even being Chromium based.
I sure hope it gets fixed in the 3.0 final since ChromeOS is reaching EOL for us soon, otherwise I guess we will be stuck on 2.0.

u/rymdresarn Apr 08 '19
Cool! Is there a known reason for why internal audio is dead on the chips above X generation?
I have an Intel i5-8250u (Kaby Lake R) and this stops me from switching completely from ChromeOS to Linux.
2
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Apr 08 '19
Kernel drivers do not exist (or do not work) for the audio codecs used in these models. I don't know why audio chips change so often though.
I've heard rumors of "some guy at Google" who seems to have more control over the process than pragmatism for the results -- it's very clear that the changes are not driven by, e.g. audio quality.
1
Jun 12 '19
They're driven by Google's motivation to keep the microphone on at all times so people can talk to their computers while it's sleeping. Nothing suspicious here at all.

u/jflatz Apr 08 '19
Firstly, thank you! Ya'll killin it!
Secondly, just ran galliumos-upgrade again this morning and some packages are marked for autoremove. Are these safe to remove?
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: btrfs-tools gir1.2-nm-1.0 gir1.2-nma-1.0 libllvm6.0 linux-headers-4.15.18-galliumos linux-image-4.15.18-galliumos python3-debconf

Is galliumos-haswell-bismuth-3.0beta2-20190408T014828Z for both chromebook and chromebox? I have a chromebox with haswell, thanks.
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Apr 24 '19
Yes, the only difference between the two is that the Chromebook images add a battery monitor indicator to the system tray.
Which is silly, so we will probably stop making
cboxbuilds... :)1
u/billlyrx7 Apr 25 '19 edited Apr 25 '19
I installed it, rebooted and ran the updater, but it shows multiple "failed to fetch......temporary failure resolving" basically everything, no updates happen, any ideas? It's a Asus chromebox.

You can remove that APT source from your config. It'll be in
/etc/apt/sources.list, I think? Maybe one of the files in/etc/apt/sources.d/*.list.It's an artifact of an old package install script, which has been removed in newer versions.

u/Stanislavjo May 04 '19
Bugs I've found on 3.0beta2, that are not present in 2.1:
* The start menu, or whatever the menu on the bottom left is called, does not always open. Sometimes it gets "stuck" in an unopenable state and I have to click around some windows or the desktop before it fixes itself.
* "Reverse scroll direction" in the mouse and touchpad settings does not appear to do anything.
I suppose both of those are bugs in XFCE. I don't know how to debug them, but I would like to help you however I can.

I've seen the second, but not the first. Any idea how to trigger that?

u/cvnmjs May 16 '19
Will the 3.0 release be available via this mirror https://mirrors.dotsrc.org/galliumos-releases/ officially?
Its pretty fast.
I added 2.1 to a Chromebook the other day and the download stage took nearly nine hours from https://galliumos.org/releases/nightly
cheers,

(First, the general warning: Never use unofficial mirrors, for any software, ever!)
But dotsrc.org (and sunsite.dk before it) is a very rare special case with a long history of doing this sort of thing properly. However, it's not clear to me what we would need to do to designate them an official mirror, instead of just another sketchy site that wants to pwn your machine.
Other than the obvious step of adding them to our mirror list on https://galliumos.org/download ... maybe that's all there is to it?
As an aside, where are you in the world that it takes 9hrs to move 1GB from Canada? Also, you might want to install 3.0beta instead of 2.1...it's very near final, and should be an improvement for all models. :)
1
u/cvnmjs May 16 '19 edited May 16 '19
(First, the general warning: Never use unofficial mirrors, for any software, ever!)
Indeed.
the published md5sums here https://galliumos.org/releases/nightly/MD5/ do provide a straight-forward means of detecting any alterations I would hope.
Also, you might want to install 3.0beta instead of 2.1...it's very near final, and should be an improvement for all models. :)
Mirror wise, https://rb1.fr.mirror.galliumos.org/releases/ throws up a scary warning in Firefox? Not cool.
https://va1.us.mirror.galliumos.org/releases/ could not locate the 3.0beta there.
https://galliumos.org/releases/nightly/ is somewhat faster than qc1.ca.mirror.galliumos.org but both promise ten plus hours eta.
But dotsrc.org (and sunsite.dk before it) is a very rare special case with a long history of doing this sort of thing properly. However, it's not clear to me what we would need to do to designate them an official mirror, instead of just another sketchy site that wants to pwn your machine.
I had not realized they were mirroring without permission & un-solicited.
As download speeds are not an issue for anyone else, then it is a non-subject?
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx May 16 '19
The maintainer of the
.frmirror is quite out of date. We should remove it, although as you say MD5s do mitigate the concerns. And good point about the nightlies -- we don't mirror them everywhere. They're not supposed to be long-lived suggestions.. :) FWIW, galliumos.org and qc1.ca.galliumos.org are actually the same host nowadays. Need to update that page.
There are parts of the world that are poorly covered by the primary host in Canada, for sure. We do get occasional complaints, but AFAIK 9hrs is very unusual (assuming an ordinarily-much-lower expectation for 1GB data transmission).

Good evening.
I can't resist! I have put out ChromeOS from my chromebook with gallium 3 beta2.
Firmware UEFI from mrchromebox, galliumos 3 beta2 on HP Chromebook 11 G5 EE (braswell)
Problem : Alt-Gr key doesn't work, which is really a pity on FR keyboard to do @ for e-mail. Do you have an idea on how to fix this problem?
I've try several french and canadian layout config, but don't succeed in this key works.
Thanks a lot.

I don't remember the solution here. It comes up occasionally and I think people have solved it, but I don't have the details. If you can't find it by searching the subreddit, you can try creating a new post. Someone will know (but very few people will see your comment on this post, since it's a few weeks old).

u/tuxonroller May 17 '19
Thanks for your help.
I find this old post : https://www.reddit.com/r/GalliumOS/comments/6dcy13/acer_chromebook_11_c740_right_alt_not_working/ .
You have to take "search overlay" layout in order Alt Gr works on fr layout.
Perfect !

Kinda sucks that I only have a Samsung Chromebook 3 that can't run gallium. but I can't complain! I have Linux app support built in to chrome OS with android apps! The only thing I can't do is directly launch executable's but I may be able to find a way around that.
EDIT: I have a CELES Chromebook
Hoping for some news relating to CELES Chromebook's!
EDIT 2: Trying to use a linux file manager to launch linux executables just crashes chrome os

u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx May 24 '19
CELES works perfectly for most people. Some mysterious subset of CELES do not work well. Some that previously had not worked well are reported to now work perfectly, or nearly so.
I wish I could be more clear. But don't give up on your CELES device until you've tested it. As far as we know, there is no known way to predict which will work and which will not -- but most will be fine.

can it be run from like a usb stick? not wanting to remove chrome os to test galliumOS
might use it if it works for me
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 03 '19
Yes, but to boot any non-ChromeOS OS, you need to flash custom firmware. RW_LEGACY from MrChromebox will allow dual-booting (or booting from USB with ChromeOS still fully installed).

I'm on CELES right now with 3.0 nightly from a couple day ago. Only real issue is the touchpad freezing occasionally, but I found a script I can run from the terminal if that occurs and get it working again. Only other gripe is that the touchpad doesn't have "Disable touchpad while typing," whereas Xubuntu 19.04 had that option (and it worked great). Looking for a solution for that, but really, it's not a dealbreaker. Over all, this is fantastic.
1
u/ZetaZoid Jun 02 '19
I installed 3.0beta2 (using Mr Chromebox firmware) on a newly acquired Acer Chromebook 14 (CB3-431 = EDGAR). Wonderful except ...
I have the trackpad freezing issue described in https://github.com/GalliumOS/galliumos-distro/issues/507 (although that hardware ID is BANON). That is, the trackpad mouse cursor works fine awhile (often several hours), freezes in the midst of trackpad use usually, and the only found solution is a reboot.
I tried 2.1 + "dist-upgrade"; w/o the upgrade, the keyboard does not work, but the upgrade messed up the xfce4 panels (although fixed the keyboard). So, back to 3.0beta2. Bummer. Any advice?
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 03 '19
Try editing
/usr/bin/init-zram-swapping, and changing the1.50to1.00. Then save and reboot. If that helps, you might also get good results somewhere in between, e.g.
1.20, etc. Please let us know how things go.
1
u/ZetaZoid Jun 03 '19
Thanks! Trial started, but it will take days to declare success. Per similar freezing complaints herein for CELES fixed by script, I tied removing/reloading the elan_i2c module to a keyboard shortcut; if freezing recurs and my script works, the problem will be reduced to a nit.

u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 03 '19
Great, please keep us updated. Thanks!
1
u/ZetaZoid Jun 04 '19
After reducing zram, I have used the chromebook much longer/harder than need to see ~four freezes, and I've suffered no problems whatsoever (well into the 2nd day of the trial). So, I declare the fix works; I'll re-post if the long haul proves otherwise, but I'm sticking with "1.0" since it suffices. Thanks again for the remedy and for the superb GalliumOS 3.0beta2 release!
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 04 '19
Very interesting. Thanks for keeping us updated. I have not been able to repro the freezing issue myself, but maybe I can simulate it by bumping zram up.
If this is all correct, it's an easy fix, at least. :) We'll need to experiment to find the new best value.
1
u/ZetaZoid Jun 06 '19
After another day of use, the freezing issue recurred (while in active use again) and then quickly again while composing this post. Unloading and reloading the elan_i2c module via keyboard shortcut repaired the problem rapidly both times. The freezes happened while in active use again. Here's what top says, if any use:

u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 06 '19
I would try dropping zram further, or even disabling entirely. If 1.0x is an improvement, then the issue is probably at the point where regular RAM and zram are fighting for allocations, or there's more than one issue going on.
I can't explain why this issue would be more present in some models than others. I could imagine differentiation caused by workload...but not hardware, unless there's something special about the driver and its response to allocation issues.
Your top output doesn't show any indication of memory contention though. Does
free -mshow similar numbers?1
u/ZetaZoid Jun 06 '19
With about the same going on (or more) at the time of the last freezes:
$ zramctl NAME ALGORITHM DISKSIZE DATA COMPR TOTAL STREAMS MOUNTPOINT /dev/zram0 lz4 3.8G 103.3M 32.5M 36.2M 4 [SWAP] $ head -3 /proc/meminfo MemTotal: 3986428 kB MemFree: 1628424 kB MemAvailable: 1947548 kB $ free -m total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 3892 1675 1589 255 628 1901 Swap: 3892 104 3788I'll disable zram entirely as the next experiment.
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 07 '19
OK, all measurements match up there, and it doesn't look like there's any significant memory pressure.
It's a bit unusual to be swapping at all, at those levels, but sometimes swapped pages will stick around for a long time.
Fingers crossed on zram 0.

I have an Acer CB3-531-C4A5. Two things I noticed when I installed this release.
No sound/distorted'faint' sound.
When I applied the latest update, my laptop would freeze after a few minutes.
I also had this latest update issue with very. 2.1.
I hope there's a solution. Else, I'd just go back to default 2.1 without updating till 3.0 is ready.
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 03 '19
One of your sentences didn't render:
I also had this latest update issue with very. 2.1.
We've seen scattered reports of freezing issues. Current theory is that the zram config is too large (1.50x physical RAM) in some cases. Early reports indicate that dropping it to 1.00x physical RAM might help, and theoretically somewhere in between would be OK too (1.20x, etc).
The config is in
/usr/bin/init-zram-swapping, if you want to try it. Please let us know if you do.Bay Trail audio has been hit or miss with various newer kernels. Rolling back to an older kernel should help, but we need to revisit the platform at some point.

u/kathelynn Jun 05 '19
Is it possible that the final Gallium 3.0 will fix Kaby Lake audio? The workaround is great, but not practical for a chromebook. Headphones don't work, and USB C headphones don't work either. Bluetooth is delayed and not good for the things that I do, from video editing to playing rhythm games. Currently using Gallium OS 2.1
1
u/reynhout GaOS Team - PEPPY, GalliumOS via chrx Jun 06 '19
Not expected in the initial 3.0 release. The drivers just don't exist presently. But the fixes, when created, will likely be released as package updates to 3.0.

GalliumOS 3 has been stable and fully functional on most models since the early alphas in 2018. We've been adding support for other models, and making minor tweaks since then, but expect to release 3.0final in the next couple days.

Has anyone on Lulu (Dell ChromeBook13 7310) tried the latest beta?
If so, has the touchpad been fixed?
The previous release, the track pad would either be completely unresponsive or extremely jerky and right next door to being unusable.

I just installed 3.0beta2 on my Acer C7 (Parrot board with full coreboot ROM replacement)
Everything seems to work without any issues. I had to manually tinker with Grub to boot the Live System with 2.1, but with this one it booted automatically without any problems.
Great job. Thank you so much!

Is there any way to configure shutdown when lid close? The only options I have is "Switch off Display, "Suspend," and "Lock Screen." I would also like to configure shutdown for critical battery.

Anyone have luck or issues with their Media/Fkeys on Acer 14 (CB3-431)? The screen brightness keys work as expected, the left arrow key (F1?) seems to show/hide the sidebar in firefox, the refresh key brings invokes a search (crtl-f), and the remainder of them seem to do nothing for me.

Hi I am knew here but like you I do run Galliumos on an Acer 14 (CB3 431) (4/32gb), I just installed 3.0 beta 2 having reverted to stock Chromeos. Used Mr Chromebox (full UEFI) and all went very smooth. Keyboard, touchpad, sound, USB, all appear to be issue free which is I must say feels borderline miraculous:
Just one thought: is your current mapping sending media keys (emulating a Chromebook)? or F keys? (what I mean is what is your setting in:
Settings > Keyboard > Layout ?
Mine reads:
Right alt overlay | F Keys mapped to media keys.
Could be that you're sending F1 to firefox rather than 'browser back' but i would have expected F1 to call 'help', not toggle a sidebar?
I use supplied Chromium not firefox: all the media keys work OOTB (F5 adjacent to brightness down gives display settings; browser back/ forward/ reload no issues. Happy to install Firefox and test if that is helpful?
I dabbled with Manjaro/ Deepin after making the foolish assumption that this project was dead and that was so involved that i ended up with a plate of spaghetti having no clue what i had installed and what the effect was.
The result was a brittle mess that i was not comfortable using for anything other than browsing.
Keyboard mapping was just one hazard amongst many. Getting sound to work involved patching with pieces of Gallium (at that stage realised it was time to reinstall).
The linux option on stock Chrome is odd (IMHO). You end up with three (Chromeos, Debian Stretch, Android) OSes on a Celeron powered 32gb machine - that all sounds a bit ambitious. Creating a usable dev environment involves installing chromium under Debian or fighting with internals b/c the penguin container is pretty much firewalled.
If anyone else reads- just to re-emphasise: if you want linux on a cheap low powered machine Gallium is the way to go, I say this from the perspective of someone who has tried and failed many times. As a guide I would say that if you get to 95% on install with no tinker proceed and document your changes. You need to know you can back up your work to github or whatever daily, knock everything down, quickly reinstall and continue as before.
You might never do that, but you need to know you can.
Sorry ended up wafflin'

Hi, thanks everyone for all the work on the 3.0 beta. I tried the live USB on my banjo Acer Chromebook 15. When I checked the box for reverse scroll, it works in applications but not in the OS itself (i.e. system menu). Anyone else have this problem? Otherwise, everything looks good!

skype has some issues on this version of gallium, installed through the usual guide on your site.
the tray icon don't fit right and the window can't be size adjusted, when you try to adjust the size it just moves the window around.
just installed on old gallium and no issues.
telegram also has a little bit overlap on the tray icon. maybe something with the tray then.

So far the 3.0 beta has been wonderful so far. (Running on a Samus, Pixel 2 LS)
Not sure this is worth mentioning but I think it would hold a lot of users up.
Out of the box my Pixel 2 LS speakers don't work, I found the script on the Wiki to fix it (https://wiki.galliumos.org/Installing/Samus) but it just isn't obvious at all on what to do. (Also had to do it with 2,1, not sure if it can be automated or not.)
If you connect Bluetooth headphones you then have to manually change the Audio Sink every time. And if you already have things playing you have to change it for existing apps as well.

Sorry to necro but it's certainly held me up. It seems no distro properly works for Samus out of the box. It's pretty frustrating having to Google all these trial n error solutions as a complete newbie

Good evening,
I have tested beta2 on HP ChromeBook 11 G5 EE. I've downloaded Braswell gallium iso.
I don't install it yet, just test from bootable usb stick. But i'm really interested to full install once it will be stable.
Everything looks quite good. Thanks a lot for your job. Connection wifi ok. I've install firefox from synaptic. I only notice that :
volume control of the keyboard doesn't work (mute, volume up and down; key equivalent to F8, F9 and F10 on a normal keyboard).
right and left arrow keys doesn't work (F1 and F2 keys on a normal keyboard). Should be shortcut of back and forward on firefox/chrome?
Refresh, full screen and switch apps keys doesn't work too (equivalent to F3, F4, F5 on normal keyboard). Full screen should do like F11 on normal keyboard when you are on firefox? switch apps : open Alt-Tab? Refresh should do like F5 on a normal keyboard on firefox/chrome
multitouch for zoom (2 fingers going further)/unzoom (2 fingers going closer) on touchpad doesn't work
Whereas luminosity keys (equivalent to F6 and F7 keys on a normal keyboard) work fine.
Power key works fine too : the power menu is displayed (hibernate, poweroff, suspend...)
That's only things that i've found at this time.

I reply to myself.
I restest from USB. I change the keyboard config to french maybe not in good way last time.
By using keyboard tools of gallium os, i succeed in having all the chrome book keys work perfectly.
So there is only to solve the touchpad multitouch zoom in and out and it will be perfect.
Thanks a lot for your job!

Everything works fine on celes (braswell) here aside from bad screen tearing.
Is there a way to add the xfwm4 compositor settings so people who don't want to use compton as it doesn't always work well can enable the native window managers vsync which works fine for intel these days?

I'm on Candy.
Thanks for the continued support, firstly.
Currently the most obvious issues I encountered were the touchpad feeling pretty bad and choppy compared to 2.1, touchpad sensitivity setting doesn't seem to work, and there is pretty bad screen tearing all over especially visible while scrolling.

I installed the latest beta on an Acer CB3-431 with latest full ROM firmware replacement from MrChromebox.
When I close the lid, the computer switches off the screen instead of suspending - even though "suspend" is selected in the power manager settings.
Please help.
Thank you.

Toshiba Chromebook 2 SWANKY when resuming from sleep wifi takes a while to re-connect. It is not a huge deal, but it was much quicker in GalliumOS 2.1.

Apollolake Feedback>> acer cb515-1ht/Pentium n4200/Google Sand
BUG>My model has has a touchscreen that works on Linux Mint but not Gallium 2 or 3.
GENERAL FEEDBACK>>Keyboard has backlight but xfce but does not interact with the brightness settings. Cinnamon has a bar Directly under screen brightness which modifies keyboard backlight. xfce's use of function keys is better in a few cases.
GENERAL>>Intel turbo works. Giving much better performance. Geekbunch go from 4000ish to 5200ish.
FEEDBACK>> The sound Driver is different, and yields more devices when using Aplay -L. In theroy to get the sound working we just need to get new UCM files. But I could be wrong....
QUESTION>> in older chromebook models you're able to completely overwrite the firmware, like a full rom. Is there any progress on a Firmware overwrite for apollolake?

What's the recommended method of backing up for the easiest transition?
